“K?” you peered into the technician’s hall of the Rebel base, scanning the various droids that were rolling around. You had not seen K-2 all day, and you were concerned. You suddenly caught sight of the droid ducking into another room, and you rushed after him. You pulled open the door of the supply closet, to see K-2 standing awkwardly inside.
“Hello, y/n.” he said uncertainly, and you pressed your lips together to stop yourself from laughing.
“What are you doing, K?” you asked, giggling slightly. K-2 straightened, and try to walk past you.
“I was just leaving.” he responded flatly, and your laugh faded. K-2 had been avoiding you lately, and you didn’t understand why.
“Why are you always pushing me away?” you asked, reaching out to K-2. He pulled his arm away, not looking at you.
“I am a droid, y/n.” his voice seemed abnormally emotionless, and not in his usual sarcastic tone. “You don’t need to spend so much time with me. You deserve so much better.”
“Oh, K.” you tilted your head. “But I like spending time with you! Don’t you like hanging out with me?”
“I do, y/n, but why don’t you spend more time with… well, people?” he asked.
“Well I don’t want to leave you out, do I?” you pointed out, but K-2 seemed unconvinced.
“You don’t need to worry about me.” he said, trying to move away. Refusing to let him leave, you stood in front of him.
“K.” your voice became serious. “I think you’re just afraid to be happy. You don’t need to be scared or insecure to hang out with the people who make you happy.”
“Do you truly mean that?” K-2 asked, and you could hear some more hope and emotion enter his voice. You nodded firmly, and K-2 brightened up. “Thank you, y/n.”
“No problem, K.” you grinned, then straightened your shirt. “Now, do you want to go prank Cassian with me?”
