We don’t talk enough about the psychological damage that killing people has on the Crows.
It’s psychologically easier to inflict harm on others when you don’t have to be in close proximity to them.
Jesper shoots people all the time, but he’s able to be a distance away from them.
Nina’s heartrender powers require her to be within a certain proximity, but she doesn’t have to be right next to them.
Wylan’s bombs allow him to be so far from them too.
(I can’t remember how Matthias was trained)
But Inej’s favourite weapon is knives and daggers. They require (for the most part) close proximity. The effect that being right in front of the person you kill when you kill them must be immense – especially for someone who swore never to kill anyone.
Kaz on the other hand? Kaz uses his cane. He beats people to death/severe injury often. He’s in close proximity to his victims but still keeps doing it, with the same violent tendency.
The difference in psychological impact close-contact murder has on Kaz and Inej respectively just adds a deeper level to their characters and really fascinates me.
