Kaubiko-cho Shinjuku - probably more neon per square metre than anywhere else in the world. There’s no space to build out, so you’ve got to build up. Businesses that do not have street level entrances have to use neon signs to let you know that they are there on one of the upper levels of a building.
Narrow alleys are full of tiny bar-style food service counters. The Golden Gai section is full of tiny taverns that can frequently only sit less than five people.
And yes, that is King Kong hanging off the side of that building.
