I always wonder why Jaeha dresses in Kai fashion instead of Kouka clothes. I hope someone asks the author this question.

I'd have to double check this but isn't it because the region he's from (and the green dragon villiage) is currently Kai territory but it had originally been Kouka territory closer to Shuten's time? Something along the lines of border changes over the decades?

I feel like I remember reading that but I don't know where. I'd say refer to the fan book but I don't know about you I cant read a link of Japanese so pictures only go so far.

Maybe there was something about it in the margin notes kusanagi makes in the chapters sometimes?

I know there was an answer for this and now it's gonna drive me nuts till I remember 😅

I was reading your akatsuki no yona theories after chapter 175.I myself thought that Titia might be Hak's mother. I thought it was a bit odd the author didn't make him immediately related to mundok,and that it might be used later down the line for plot. It would be great to see Haks characterisation in terms of his backround as an orphan growing up before he met mundok and backround lineage.Otherwise I think Suwoons Dad and Titia would make a badass couple if she ran away from her engagement in

For all the times that the Kai Empire has posed a threat in one way or another, it would be interesting to actually meet a member of the imperial family. Whether it’s the one currently heading South Kai or one of the folks in the imperial city in North Kai. To meet the Big One in power over the external force that Suwon has been preparing to defend against this entire time.

Headcanon: Yona and co. infiltrate the Kai Empire for Su-won to gather information on a possible attack against Kouka. A Kai royal or noble falls for the Princess and her beautiful hair. Asks to marry her. Forcing Hak and all the dragon warriors to confront their own feelings.

Who was Yona supposed to marry?

It could be that question is as irrelevant as it could be...but it was mentioned in the first chapter that King Il actually intended to talk with his daughter about that issue.

So it could be more than just a guess that King Il already had someone in mind...and that could be still play a role in AnY or never again brought up again.

Candidates to marry his precious daughter...

1. Hak

There are people who are so sure that Hak was the one King Il wished to be the next king.

The reasons:

King Il was unusually fond of Hak since his teens. King Il seemed to treasure his daughter and the one to keep her save was Hak. So more or less did King Il entrust Hak with maybe the most important person in his life.

King Il would have gained:

The wind tribe people already were  faithful followers of King Il.

With a marriage between the next leader of the wind tribe and his daughter he would have enforced the bond between him and his subordinates.

I think there would have been worse possibilities than Hak as king of Kouka.

Counter-arguments

The only point I think that it is less likely. I somehow would have expected for King Il to talk with Hak about that subject. 

Also I would have expected for King Il to try to persuade Yona into marrying him in the first chapter, when Yona lied that she was engaged to Hak. But he didn t mention it either.

2. Tae Jun

The reasons:

I am not sure, if King Il really was totally oblivious to the ambition Soo Jin harbored. 

Soo Won was already aware of it at his coronation, so maybe King Il knew of it too.

I really would have expected that King Il would have rather given Yona to Tae Jun like he was before his “transformation” than fighting against Soo Jin.

Also Tae Jun was her husband in that “extra: What would have been if Soo Won didn t murder King Il?” Even if it was just a joke....jokes can be serious sometimes....

King Il would have gained:

He would have prevented  a war and gained Soo JIn as faithful follower, since his son was the next in the line of being king.

Counter-arguments:

I think it is too few...The Kai Empire would have lurked still around and the other tribes were not King Il s allies.

3. A son of Kai

The reasons

The only possibility I see that King Il could ensure that Kouka would be gaining a strong ally, maybe even from that country who tried to invade Kouka.

So ...I am pretty sure that would be a reason to keep his plans a secret. I cannot imagine the reaction of all tribe leaders if Kouka got to be a vassal state of Kai.  Cementing their bond maybe with a marriage...

Counter-arguments

Nothing of this sort was ever mentioned. But I still deem it a very fine possibility for King Il s self-loathing.

Xing probably would have been stronger had it continued to train and prepare for an inevitable Kouka attack, but Il’s reign probably softened everybody up. Xing was stable at most. 

Meanwhile, Kai has been crumbling under both its size and its invaders to the north during all those years and has been weakening gradually. However, because of the huge empire it is compared to the dinky countries like Kouka, Sei, and Xing, it’s all the more dangerous. Not just to itself but to everything surrounding it. A lot could come out of a development like this - Kai’s strongholds coming down as the invaders sweep across the mountains and plains southward. All the three dinky countries can hope for is that their forces are strong enough to hold them off...before they’re totally taken over, let’s face it.

Suwon just knew off-hand that Kai locals loved flowery tea. When he first tasted Yuno’s tea, he knew that it would take off in Kai and set up a merchant from Kai to try it out.

What other little empire quirks does Suwon know about Kai?
