There was a trend in the 40s and 50s (not sure if it predates that or if there are places that still do it) where you could get your child’s baby shoes cast in bronze or dipped in bronze and use them as keepsakes or have them mounted as bookends. Better than the resin slop of the modern day in my opinion. My great grandma had my grandpa’s baby shoes made into bookends ends because she loved him very much and he was her only child and it is honestly really cute. My mom got her dad’s baby shoe bookends when she moved out and they were in my living room my entire childhood, she had explained how they were grandpa’s shoes covered in bronze and I thought that was cool.
Then I went to an art museum and saw bronze busts of people and my tiny child brain thought the person’s dismembered head and shoulders were in there…

Fun fact: the Catholic Church did not stop doing this after Edgaro Mortara. During WW2, many Jewish children were put in convents or catholic-run orphanages for their own safety. Sounds nice right? Except after the war ended, when parents or surviving relative went back to claim their children, the church went, “uhhh, actually they’re catholic now, no take backs!”
The most infamous of these cases was the Finaly affair. Two Jewish children in France, Robert and Gerald Finaly, were placed in a Catholic nursery in 1944 in anticipation of their parents being deported to Auschwitz, where they were both murdered. Their aunt, Marguerite Fischel, survived the war and went to find the boys so she could take them to live with her. However, the nun who had custody of the boys, Antoinette Brun, adamantly refused to give them up, reportedly saying that “The Jews are not grateful”
What followed was a years long custody battle where despite being repeatedly ordered by courts all over Europe to return the boys, Brun took them to many different countries and hid them, with the support and help of other nuns and priests. It was suspected at the time, and later confirmed by documents released in 2020, that Pope Pius XII had supported the effort to keep the boys away from their surviving family and have them be raised Catholic.
Thankfully, after negotiations between a sympathetic cardinal in France and the chief Rabbi of Paris, the boys were finally recovered and reunited with their aunt.

I wish I could say that the phenomenon of the Catholic Church kidnapping children and keeping them away from their families for the purposes of forcefully raising them Catholic is unique to Jews, but it’s not. From the mid nineteenth century to the mid twentieth century, the Church ran hundreds of residential schools in the US and Canada where indigenous children were kidnapped from their homes and forced into these cruel and inhumane “schools”. The children were forbidden from speaking their own languages or practicing their own cultures and religions, their hair was cut, and they were subject to emotional, verbal, spiritual, physical, and sexual abuse. Many of the children died due to malnutrition or medical neglect, their bodies buried like dogs beside the schools. The Catholic Church was not the only Church to participate in this, but they’ve been the most reluctant to fully acknowledge and apologize for it. It was only in 2022 that Pope Francis apologized on behalf of the Catholic Church for their part, but some people found the apology inadequate.
Idk what my point is here, just that there’s such a clean link between evangelizing, cultural/religious imperialism, and how damaging and horrifying a religion can be when it is thoroughly convinced of its own superiority. And that unless an institution is forced to change, it probably won’t change on its own.

Ize Press has picked up Mignon in just about its entirety, from the comic to the animation + the side episode that was released earlier this year. I was feeling sad with access to the initial animation becoming more scarce online, so this was a very welcome announcement.
When Henri speaks with Luna after the incident with the painting, he assures her that it wasn't just her fault that his soul migrated into the picture, but that he also actively contributed to it. Due to his heritage, he possesses a little magical ability.
This makes sense, because it only worked to summon him the first time. After that, Luna tried again and again, without success.
After this incident, he lost all his charm and could no longer cast magic. I don't know what exactly happened; it was probably magical exhaustion, and he simply lacked the strength for his soul to fully return to his body.
However, things changed when Henri fell in love with Luna. Since 'The power of love is a source of strength for White Witches', it worked again—even multiple times—and he managed to magically write his thoughts into the air.
But unfortunately, this kind of magic placed too great a burden on him, causing him to fall severely ill.
To protect Henri, Luna decided to end their relationship and extracted all their shared memories and his love for her from his body.
Years went by, and by the time they finally crossed paths again, much had changed. Among those changes, Henri now claims he cannot use any magic at all.
This raises the question: What actually happened to his slight magical ability, which now goes completely unmentioned?
Does Henri still possess magic but simply can't use it, or did he lose it completely since then?
In the manga, it is mentioned that it's possible to lose your magic naturally over time, but it can also be stolen.
White Witches can seduce Black Mages and steal their magic. However, it is extremely rare for a Black Mage to do the same. We know of only one Black Mage, Ellroy, who was capable of stealing magic.
Like Ellroy, Luna possesses the rare ability of extracting poison from people's bodies. So, could Luna also be capable of stealing magic?
Could it be that when Luna extracted Henri's love and memories, she unknowingly ended up stealing his magic along with them?

I've seen "fuck the beauty industrial complex" posts about complicated skincare regimens and am 100% with them except sometimes they mention sunscreen and no. no. absolutely not. sunscreen is a wonderful supportive friend who wants to keep you safe, and you should let her do it. throw out all your other cosmetics and skincare products if you want, but keep your sunscreen. and if you're not wearing sunscreen, start wearing it!!!! this is not about terror of aging, this is not about every tiny imperfection our fucked-up culture has made you feel insecure about, this is about protecting yourself from skin cancer. wear the damn sunscreen.
