I always have to remind myself that Bajor isn't actually canonically matriarchal but rather that all of the interesting Bajoran characters just happen to be women while the men are mostly dull

Do you know why Opaka was written off DS9 so early on? Every time I rewatch, I wish we had more time with her.
I think Michael and Ira felt Opaka was too nice and too helpful to Sisko and Kira, and they wanted someone as Kai that would create more conflict.
We definitely got that!
battle lines was really moving. some great characters development for kira. seeing and hearing the bajoran death chant was great. emotional impact of kai opaka’s death done very well i think
Ahn-kay ya, ay-ya vasu. Coh-ma-ra, di-nay-ya. (bajoran looks super cool)
This is a pro-Bajorans blog
They are my goats they persevered through so much suffering they are some of my favorite characters in all of Trek, Kira is my favorite trek character period, i just love them and all Bajoran allies are welcome in my blog
Shout out to @laneleeta ❤️, @nerys-kira-major , @hollywoodbabylondean , and @tophbeifong, some of my favorite people to talk all things Bajoran with 😊
And yes, the mirror freaks are valid to, such a fascinating twist on it all
I do have to say. The episode where they leave Kai Opaka behind in the Gama Quadrant was absolutely brilliant for Kira as a character. Allow me a quick Ted talk
So my understanding from one of my mutuals is that the episode was essentially there to write Opaka out until/unless they needed her as a character again.
But it was such a monumental event for Kira. It was one of the first, if not the first, times we see her truly vulnerable. When they think Opaka is dead she is crouched over the body of the leader of her people, the only ray of hope she’s had for most of her life. And she finally lets go and wails, it’s brilliantly acted and so emotional for her.
When Opaka comes back to them Kira breaks down and is essentially given permission throughout the episode to learn how to live not just fight for her life.
I really look forward to the development I’m hoping comes from this.
