Preface (next comes an introduction)
Do you remember what happened when people invented the GPS? People forgot how to drive with their eyes on the road and suddenly a road was a lake, or a cliff, or goodness knows what else. A few wrong turns led the vehicles towards ramps with no exits. People were left to burn in vehicles we commonly refer to as “death traps”.
You see, cars can only drive themselves for so long. Codes can be corrupted as quickly as people can be corrupted. We constantly approach disasters like delta approaching epsilon or infinity constantly approaching zero. We are destined to fail even though we rarely do, but who is we? Is it me or them? The ones who know better than us. What do they do when we’re not watching. I’ve seen it. The drugs and mishaps, addictions in the making. I wish I could say we were all better, but few are. They feed into our passion for life and laughter until we forget what truly makes us happy. The peace of a world that lives with us instead of against us.
Is it our fault that they feed the flames? Is it our fault that they always leave us to burn in the ashes of a mine, or power plant, or war? Do you hear their taunts from a mile away, because I saw them plain as day. What is death but an expectation? What is fear except for something they have never needed to feel. What feeds their pleasure? Is it possible that it is our pain. The losses we suffer as we look for the next day. Un día que está trés lejos de donde estamos.
Have you read the story of the jungle? Not the Amazon that feeds our egos, but the one that hosts species that shrink every day. Do we ever remember? How often do we care? Why are we all so tired? Why am I always so tired? Is it me, or them? And what comes next? Because they always know and we rarely do. Until my dad has to file bankruptcy and we are lucky to have a living family elsewhere. I assume they knew. They claim to know everything, so they must have.
I wish I could say we are all friends, but I know we are not. He is right just like my father up in el Cielo es acuerdo. You are not gods. You claim to be smarter than the Earth that raised us, but it constantly burns, moves, disperses towards new disasters. And, you rarely seem to care. What is money except for a tool that could save lives, from the birds in the sky to the fish in the sea. Don’t they all matter like you and me?
She danced through the night with the lightness of fable that clung to her skin. She introduced me to love. Beauty and taste of refined joy held me to her side.
