Death, Morality, Instinct (for any or all muses)
((I feel absolutely HORRIBLE because for the longest time, I didn’t even realize this was stuck in my inbox. D: So I tried to answer for as many muses as I could per prompt (though you can probably tell where motivation started waning), because you deserve a long response for waiting so long. The answers below are a mix of what the OC’s perceive/feel/think/are, in the context of the prompts.))Death:
Kakuto fears death, though mostly because he isn’t sure what comes after it, and fears being forever separated from his friends and family. Due to being raised in the era of war with the Dark Axis, he’s become numbed to widespread destruction and the loss of life that comes with it…but in the case of his brother-at-arms, or his parents (or anyone Kakuto considers close), it’s a very different story, and their losses (or just the thought of it, really) cut him deeply.
Another victim of too much war at a young age, Ajatamaru sees ‘death’ as a one-eyed monster that prowls in the dark, just waiting for a chance to steal away loved ones. Of course, this represents the Dark Axis. The largest threat to Kishava in Ajatamaru’s lifetime, their invasion is directly responsible for the deaths of his family, and quite a few of his friends.
Gunner sees ‘death’ as a buzzing, amorphous swarm that lurks among stones and statuary, just waiting for another victim to ad to its macabre garden. This is, no doubt, influenced by the Bagu Bagu swarms that ravaged Deepwood and its forests, which Gunner just barely escaped. He is very careful to avoid any situations that may invite death, and uses his skills as a healer to save others from its grasp. He’s not too fond of bugs, either.
Nagaomaru intends to greet death as a friend when it comes, though he hopes it comes when he is old and creaky and has lived a long life. His view is the most lackadaisical of the survivors, and Nagaomaru endures much rankling about it from Siven (who is of a very different opinion).
Out of all the Kishavan survivors, Siven is the one who fears death the most. He views it as an enemy to be avoided, and relies on his magical strength to keep it at bay. Siven lost his entire Guardsman class, most of his friends, and his family to the Dark Axis invasion, and he’s determined not to let a single one of ‘his’ survivors fall into death’s clutches. Not while he still lives.
As a warrior of Maldur, Ourania accepts that death is imminent, and that it is her duty to meet it with dignity. To meet death anywhere but in battle is to dishonor herself, her family, and those who trained her. As such, she’s not a big proponent for retreat or surrender.
Morality:
Though she follows a strict warrior’s code, Ourania is not known as a shining example of morality. She fights dirty in combat (misdirection, striking below the belt, throwing sand in her opponent’s face, etc.) and she has a record for breaking and entering - and vandalizing - the rooms of Guardsmen who piss her off (this was a short list that quickly shrank to nothing after the Dark Axis invasion). She’ll flat out lie about it, too, if not caught red-handed.
Siven’s teachers would be rolling in their graves if they could see him now. In the wake of the Dark Axis invasion, he’s essentially thrown aside many parts the knight’s code of conduct in favor of tactics that ensure the survival of Kishava and her (remaining) people. Whenever his anxieties are running high, he’s attached at the hip to some form of intoxication, which actually makes him very dangerous to be around - not only for his temper, but for the risk that his lightning magic may accidentally spark up that flammable liquid.
Kakuto is a terrible liar (couldn’t do it to save his life), and he tends to put other’s wellbeing and safety above his own. To avoid accusations of ‘weakness’ (most likely from Ourania), Kakuto claims to be upholding a family reputation. After all, he does have a legendary Champion of Yggsdral in his family tree.
Instinct:
Kaleigh turned out to have surprisingly good parental instincts, despite having an attitude that implied the opposite. He ended up being the primary caretaker of young Kakuto, up until his death/disappearance left only Lora.
Nagaomaru has a habit of ‘going with his gut’, which Siven despises all the more when the musha turns out to be right. Whether these instances are pure luck or some hidden skill, Nagaomaru always trusts his instinct about a person or situation. This often leads to him doing or allowing things that don’t appear productive or helpful until after the fact (to Siven’s great chagrin).
Instinct is what Ourania runs on 85% of the time. Even before Aethon and the Dark Axis, Maldur was a tough place; it wasn’t uncommon for warrior-hopefuls to die from the training alone. Ourania was a full-fledged warrior by the time of her exile, and since she never seemed to grasp the finer points of her father’s survival training, that meant that she had to have battle instinct in spades. She’s thrived on it for years, and relies on it constantly.
Ahahahah Kakuto's updated art reference is finally DONE ready for the blog! I'll be reposting this to my RP blog as well, and as with Ajatamaru, I'm showing off the shadow layer because I'm hella proud of it.
Because his armor colors are slightly darker than Ajatamaru's, I had to lower the shadow opacity from 50% to 35% to get about the same look...but it's not noticeable, right? :3
Kakuto's color test is finished! Buuut it's near midnight now, so I'll have to save the shading for another day.
