An unannounced presence around the small planet his people had fled to was deeply unnerving. Hugh, for all his gentle nature, wanted the ship gone. People were anxious. They’d only been there for a few months and they knew they could very easily be chased away again.

Hugh decided to remain on the ground and hail them from there. He didn’t want to come across as aggressive, too many people thought that of the ex Borg already. But, he wanted to know what the ship was doing there and why.

Mia nudged his hand and he scratched her head. He’d brought her inside when the ship was detected. He didn’t really know why.

And so, he hailed them. “Alien ship, please explain your presence here.”

His Tan Qalanq raised as he focuses on the other man. Elnor might not be able to read people as well as the others but he could see a threat from far off. “Who are you? Where are my friends?” While the Captain regarded everyone else as a crew to Elnor they were friends. His family. Those who had accepted him. He would not fail them by falling in battle. “Choose to live.”

Night shift on the Bridge. Hugh’s first shift overall on the Bridge, too. The Captain had seemed reluctant to let him do so. Not out of mistrust, more like concern over how the others would react. Data would be there, which seemed to reassure him.

Luckily, the switch over to night shifts was a lot easier for someone who regenerated rather than truly slept. One of the other officers stifled a yawn.

That wasn’t to say the switch over had gone perfectly, and Hugh took a moment to marvel at the fact that his prosthetic hand was the exact same size as his organic one. Wild.

Nope, focus. Focus.

Wait, the proximity alert. Another ship? Hugh looked up, then back at Data. 

Something about this filled Hugh with apprehension.
