what if the reason jesper always makes it even though always at the nick of time and inej always makes it to the rescue and survives against all odds time and again is because kaz believes in them..

לשון - Kaz and Inej and Jesper, G, AO3
Maybe it’s daft to attempt a second language when everything he writes in his own is still so uneven, unpolished, littered with spelling mistakes. Maybe it’s daft to try to learn the Suli script, rounded and with the tale of each letter running into the next one, when his own handwriting is still the jagged, unfinished work of a schoolchild. You can fake merch’s manners and expensive suits for so long, but Kaz will never have the easy scrawl of the early-educated.
But it’s inequitable to expect her to speak Kerch, which she does, her diction in some places far smoother than where his skids over the stones, without ever making some commensurate attempt. He can’t keep expecting her to walk all the way in this third-learned tongue without the halfway parley. So he tries. In present continuous tense, he’s trying.
He has a shiny new library card now, as acquired by a smirking Jesper. Honorary student. With it he’s gone through the slim pickings of the “talen-sulischer” section, along with the thick tomes on state craft and economics he looses weeks over and lying, tells Jesper he understands. On a third return to the stacks Kaz finds a thin red book with a cardboard cover that has undergone mysterious spills: Basikgrammatik den Talensulischer.
When he comes to the library with Kaz, Jesper’s eyes flick speedily across the shelves Like Ravkan and Shu, which he has apparently learned from the method of going to bars frequented by upstanding members of the Ravkan and Shu diasporas and drinking and winning games of darts played with Ravkan and Shu speakers, Jesper has also learned Suli. When he and Inej meet, their conversations are a cascade of the languages they know and are learning and are making new and better selves in.
Inej speaks Zemeni, is learning Kaelish and Shu and Hedjut. Her crew is teaching her. Inej says that it is important to reach out to the the lost and forsaken in their own language, for no matter how many language a woman knows it is her mother’s tongue she reaches for when she is drowning.
Kaz nods. He processes the words, but will never understand them. He’ll just try to follow along, doing his country workman’s best in his own language and trying to link words into sentences in this second one, learned for love, the one he both has to know for parity but constantly feels he’s overstepping into. He doesn’t want to falsely claim that which has never been his to have but he wants to learn well enough to meet her in. They say cutting things in half, pies and restaurant bills and accusations in a criminal court is the Kerch way, but if there’s anything Kaz has acquired from his personal history of education, it’s that half is never quite fair either.
What are your thoughts on Kaz/Inej/Jesper? I'm curious about it, since it seems like it would be a really popular OT3, but I rarely see anything shippy about the three of them.
I love it! I think it's such a fun ship with so much potential. It was my main ship before I became more invested in the SaB side of the Grishaverse.
And yeah I get what you're saying. There's some content for them out there, and I know that I've followed and seen around some people who ship it as well, but it's really not that big. Which is absolutely wild to me because they're this chaotic trio stumbling their way through crime after crime. That's the perfect dynamic for tumblr to latch onto.
Tbh this fandom has a startling lack of poly content. Considering all of the possible ships I was under the impression there would be more, but most people are ride or die for their otps here lol.
I've also seen a lot of talk about how Kanesper has more potential for an ot3 in the show than in the books and I pretty much agree with that. I think the actors all had a lot of chemistry with each other both as friends but especially as something more, whereas in the books the strength of their platonic feelings and bonds of friendship is a lot more stressed and elaborated on. It feels less romantic overall and a lot more found family. Although to be fair, in the books Jesper does have a crush on Kaz for a bit. It's just that he eventually shakes it and gets with Wylan, and people really like Wesper as a ship (which tbh who wouldn't?), so it also again comes down to this fandom being ride or die for their otps lmao.
But yeah! I'd love to see more Kanesper content. I think the ship is fucking stellar and I'd die for it 💕
How about... CrowT3?
excellent choice! ty! <3
ship it
What made you ship it? well i was basically sold since reading six of crows book 1 - children of the barrel, clinging to each other to survive *___* but watching the show has only Solidified it <3
What are your favorite things about the ship? their dynamic is something that can be So Personal, to me. It’s about the teamwork and the drift compatibility and the contrasting/complementary personalities (and aesthetics! what a strange constellation the three of them are!) but also the slightly codepended/fucked up side of their relationship; like their relationship definitely isn’t healthy or all the way equal, at least in soc/1st season of the show, but i’m a sucker for those; the king and lionheart/bodyguard aspect of it,, but also they all contribute So Much to the dynamic, and each other, and i just. it’s something that can be so Personal.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? well their relationship definitely isn’t equal or necessarily healthy, which might be an unpopular opinion in some circles. i also wish there had been more meaningful kaz/jesper interactions in the show because it does feel like jesper was reduced to comic relief next to kaz’s seriousness; i miss their banter. but also in the books as well; but then it would straight up be canon sdjajsklfh and even though i do ship it i don’t necessarily wish it were/prefer it to the canon ships
send me a ship and i'll answer three questions based on if I ship it or not.
Reading fanfiction on your lunch break feels so dangerous. Head starts getting fuzzy and it's like "O-kay, let's pack it in boys"
no thoughts only jesper smiling (& friends)
