katherine and sarah in kath’s room trying on all of kath’s clothes together. kath lacing up her girlfriend in her prettiest gowns and coordinating herself in outfits to match, the two of them posing in front of the big mirrors, dancing like they’re at a soirée together but kissing like nobody’s watching. katherine pleads with sarah to take home a few of the skirts and blouses she insists look much better on sarah than they ever did on her, and when sarah protests she’ll only ruin them working and walking, kath insists anything damaged by sarah is only all the prettier for having known her.

newsies’ apartments - pt 1

(starting a mini series where i describe in great detail what each of the newsies’ modern apartments look like. let me know who i should write next, or any ideas yall have <33)

i’ll start with sarah and katherine:

it’s a two bed, one bath on the eighth floor of the building (just occurred to me that all the newsies could have apartments in the same building omg). most of their furniture is worn down, but really well made, as kath took some of her father’s furniture when she left. there’s art and photos all over.

the apartment is covered with potted plants in every room, mostly flowers, and several hang from the ceiling. a few plants are torn and messed with, as sarah and kath have a cat. sarah wanted to get some cacti as well, but it’d be too dangerous for the cat.

the living room is very homey; handmade crochet blankets drape over the dark red worn leather couch and several thick, woven rugs cover the hardwood floor. their tv sits on a small table. a small, wooden bookshelf sits in the corner, with lots of classic literature that katherine absolutely loves. small treasures (old coins, feathers, maps, etc) take up the top shelf. there’s just enough space left over in the room for a vintage record player, which sarah found for cheap at a rummage sale. on it rests her record collection (should i make a newsies’ music tastes post too??). music is constantly drifting through their apartment.

the kitchen and living room are separated by a half-wall. it’s very convenient for watching tv and talking while cooking. the counter space is clean and organized, since sarah cooks most of the time and is very organized. sarah also got a spice rack with every spice and sauce imaginable, and she doesn’t neglect to use them. they have one of those really fancy, complicated coffee machines, kath gets a lot of use out of it. a table sits in the kitchen too, which they use to eat. there’s placemats and a vase of flowers resting on it, which are switched out weekly.

a small hallway leads to both the bedrooms and bathroom. on the walls are several photos of kath and sarah, plus the newsies, doing all sorts of stuff in new york. katherine also pinned up a couple of jack’s drawings, along with some of her favorite news articles.

the bathroom is pretty standard; a fluffy rug in front of the bathtub, a litter box for the cat, and some incense burning on the sink. the mirror opens up to be a medicine cabinet, where kath and sarah keep their hair products, skin care, and toothbrushes. they also have a pastel purple shower curtain.

one of the bedrooms was converted into a studio/office where kath does her writing and sarah sews/draws/any other stuff she does. unlike the rest of the apartment, this room is an utter disaster. katherine’s desk, which is dark and wooden, is littered with papers; half finished drafts, crumpled ideas, and stuff she meant to throw out months ago. her very old laptop sits on top of the pile, hanging onto its last bit of life. kath has a goose-neck lamp that’s often left on until two in the morning, when kath is finally dragged away from her desk into bed. sarah has a small desk in the room too, which she draws at, but most of her supplies is littered around the floor; scissors, thread, yarn, paper, glue, and anything else that she uses. a monster of extension cords and cables powers kath’s lamp and charger cable, plus sarah’s sewing machine, iron, printer, electric tools, light pad, and various chargers. kath and sarah often work in the room at the same time, both completely focused on their work. i believe they would be the lesbian couple to take on huge diy projects for fun.

the other bedroom is where they actually sleep. It’s got a queen-sized bed, covered in countless colorful blankets and pillows. they have two end tables, one for each of them. sarah’s has an extra charger, a glass of water, and a small crochet project. kath’s has her noise canceling headphones, an alarm clock, and usually a snack. they have a small tv set up so they can watch tv while in bed. multicolored fairy lights dangle from the ceiling around the bed. they’re the kind that you can change using a remote or app, and katherine likes changing it based on the “vibes”. they have a closet and wardrobe, they each get half of both. of course they end up sharing clothes a lot of the time. the window in their room leads to the fire escape, and they go out there to watch the sunrise sometimes, usually after they had been up all night.

okay okay okay, writing that was SO FUN. tedious at times, but FUN. i love sarah and kath so much. think about doing davey and jack’s next. thoughts?
