When they entered Otto's dorm, a tall, muscular boy was doing push ups between the beds. He noticed them and jumped to his feet with a grin Sirius found absolutely inappropriate for this time of day.
"Good morning Otto, up already?" The boy punched Otto's shoulder. "Doesn't look like you at all! And you brought someone!"
Otto flinched. "Ah, hey Martin. Uhm yes, we were... I went for a run. By the lake. With... with Sirius! But now we are tired."
Martin nodded. "Well, I appreciate the mindset, Otto!" He tapped his temple with his finger. "Success starts in the head!"
Otto shot Sirius a tortured smile. Sirius raised an eyebrow. He recognized the boy now. Martin Genau, one of the Hufflepuff chasers. James had made fun of his terrible, albeit very motivated, attempts of playing Quidditch.
Martin looked back and forth between them and grinned, revealing a row of concerningly white teeth.
"Better leave you two alone them. Just in case you want to...unwind, after your run." He wiggled his eyebrows and Sirius could practically feel the heat radiating from Otto's cheeks.
"Come on, Karl! Time for breakfast!" Martin reached into one of the three beds that still had the curtains drawn and pulled out a miserably blinking, cubby boy, with a pretty impressive beard for a seventeen year-old.
Karl. Sirius remembered him too. Smart kid. Quite a rebellious spirit for a Hufflepuff. Always scribbeling something into his red notebook.
Karl grabbed a hold of Martin's muscular arm and let the other boy pull him to his feet with a yawn.
"How late is it?"
"Half past seven!," Martin announced in a tone that implied that this was an outrageous time to still be in bed but Karl just pulled a face and rubbed his beard.
"Too early."
"Too late! We will miss breakfast! And it's Saturday, you know what that means, Karl!"
Karl nodded gravely and reached for his robes. "Pancakes."
"Exactly!"
"Fine, let's go then." Karl threw a look at Otto and Sirius. "What about you? Are you not hungry?"
"We already ate," Otto lied.
Karl raised his bushy eyebrows but shrugged and weaved his fingers in between Martin's. "Let's go then. But we will go to the library later. I need to draw some pamphlets..."
Martin shot Karl another teethy smile. "Anything for my Karlie."
Sirius looked after the peculiar pair. "Are they dating?"
Otto shrugged. "They say they don't. Karl doesn't like the concept of private property and as you just saw, Martin can't say no to him. As long as he gets his pancakes he's happy."
"Pancakes?" Sirius rubbed his temples. He was too tired for this.
