DAICHI + THE SAWAMURA SIBLINGS ((headcanons))

A/N: So... we know Daichi has 4 younger siblings: 2 brothers and 2 sisters. And y’all already know that I’m a complete headass for Daichi but... today, my brain went ‘brrrrrrrr’ thinking about him being the bestest big brother and wondering what his siblings would be like. These are completing self-indulgent and are organized in no particular way. I hope y’all enjoy! It’s under the cut cuz it’s a little long and I didn’t want to clog anyone’s dash 🤧

Daichi can braid hair pretty really well

he knows how to do different styles (e.g., French, Dutch, Fishtail)

his practice subject when he was learning to do braids for his little sisters was actually Asahi

[CONTEXT: I headcanon that Daichi’s sisters are much younger than him–like they’re in their early elementary school years when Daichi’s a 3rd year at Karasuno]

the Sawamura birth order: Daichi → Brother #1 → Brother #2 → Sister #1 → Sister #2

Daichi’s younger brothers think volleyball’s cool but wouldn’t pick it up because they don’t wanna live in his shadow

Daichi’s a) flattered because this means that this brothers think he’s amazing but b) makes him sad because it would’ve meant the world to see his brothers play volleyball, esp. for Karasuno

INSTEAD, the one who picks up volleyball is one of his sisters–I would say the older of the two

Daichi’s actually really good at patching people up–like applying First-Aid or cleaning/bandaging up wounds

example: after Tanaka punched Kageyama and Hinata to end their fight, who patched them up? Daichi

reason: his younger brothers–who are closer in age to each other than they are to him–fought a lot

Daichi’s younger brothers never really grow out of bickering with each other but the fighting just becomes more... contained? like no more physical fighting/wrestling but instead Daichi suggests they compete with each other in things

ex: arm wrestling, who can score the most in skeeball, or who can run the fastest to the end of their street

eventually, these little challenges lead to both brothers ending up in their respective sport(s)

so like Brother #1 wins the race and decides he’ll try the track & field team at school and realizes that he likes it and the people in it

Brother #2 joins the track & field team to spite him so they end up competing against each other in stupid things like who can run their warm-up lap the fastest BUT

Brother #2 realizes that he enjoys the field aspect more than the track side so he does stuff like shot put or pole vaulting

FOR WHATEVER REASON, I can imagine Daichi’s younger brothers as twins or only one year apart from each other

Daichi’s baby sister chooses not to do a sports club–ends up in student council

is super artsy (surprisingly)

does the poster work for events like the school festival or sports day

can definitely see her wanting to become a professional photographer who captures action shots at sporting events

BONUS (thanks to @bramble-heart​): Baby Sawamura is the kid on the student council who actively advocates for clubs, esp. sports clubs

A/N: @tetsurouandushigirl asked me about Daichi when his s/o is pregnant and now I’m in a ✨mood✨ because I love this man so much but I will never forgive him for not being real. Here are some things I headcanon for Daichi when his s/o is pregnant (this a little long so cut) LOL this also isn't proofread so... sorry ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

if it’s the first baby? then he’s super doting (you can’t convince me otherwise)

reads and researches EVERYTHING

he’ll be very involved with all the appointments

will ask more questions than his s/o because he’s both curious about the process but he’s also trying to deal with something that’s out of his control so asking questions and trying to learn as much as he can is how he copes

like this man grew up helping his mom and taking care of 4 younger siblings

THEN a volleyball team of 11 other menaces 

he likes knowing he can control or lead a situation but this pregnancy is completely out of his hands; he’s probably thinking, “this is unfamiliar territory… WHAT DO I DO?”

he’ll baby proof EVERYTHING waaaay before the baby’s delivery

he’ll also be like “you need something? DON’T MOVE. you focus on growing a lung or an arm or whatever. i’ll get you this and this and this…”

he absolutely HATES leaving his s/o alone so he’ll probably ask Suga or ENNOSHITA or even Tanaka and Kiyoko to check up on them since Asahi’s in Tokyo, Noya’s too chaotic, etc. etc.

he’ll definitely bring home meat buns from Ukai’s shop because he stopped by there to update him and to vent about his worries over becoming a dad

A/N: I have had the FATTEST writer’s block for forever and ... lol. I tested positive for COVID last Thursday and have been in self-quarantine, rewatching Haikyuu, for the last few days. That being said, I had the idea for this not too long ago and I had started writing it but–me being me–hated everything about it. But I tried rewriting it and I felt like with every rewrite, I just kept getting further and further away from my writing voice so HERE. Take the unedited version and tell me if I should continue. 🤧🤧🤧🤧

Sawamura Daichi occupies many different roles. For starters, he’s a third-year high school student, captain of the volleyball team, class rep for his homeroom, older brother to four younger siblings, and a responsible son to his widowed mother. Personally-speaking, he’s my next door neighbor, childhood best friend (despite our two year age gap), occasional tutor, and the love of my life–kidding. That’s a joke. Sorta. Maybe? I’m… figuring it out. 

To be fair, I don’t think I have feelings for him. Everyone else seems to think so. This includes my older sister, my grandparents, Daichi’s younger siblings, and his mom. It did include my parents while we were growing up–they always made teasing, “they’re going to marry each other” remarks–but seeing as they’ve been working abroad for the last five years, I’ve removed them from the list of everyone-who-thinks-I’m-in-love-with-Daichi. 

But. But. But.

Hypothetically speaking, if I did have feelings for Daichi… then they probably developed in middle school because of stupid, young and naïve jealousy. 

See, our two year age gap only ever bothered me whenever school decided to separate us. Like when Daichi started elementary school before me. Our parents were relentless with the teasing! Talking about how Daichi and I couldn’t have our usual playdates–no more morning walks to the park, mid-day naps, or watching our afternoon kids’ programs. So, naturally, at 4-years old, I sobbed… and proceeded to beg Daichi’s mom if I could accompany her that following Monday morning to see him off for his first day of school. 

Of course, when that Monday came, I refused to wake up early and by the time I had even begun to miss Daichi, he was already off from school. 

But I think our age gap always made me anxious to grow up. I wanted to experience everything at the same time and quell that bothersome feeling of thinking as though I was being “left behind.” Because, by the time I moved onto middle school, Daichi was in his third and last year, meaning we’d only have that one year together before he’d move on again. And, although my parents had graciously sent me to Izumitate Junior High with him, where I would go to high school was yet to be determined. 

Here’s where that dumb, naïvety comes into play.

Throughout the entirety of our friendship, I had never once felt insecure about my place. Even if our social circles were different at school and we participated in different activities–him with volleyball, me with band–I always knew that our friendship was solid. I knew that other than his mom and his younger sisters, I was the next most important girl in his life. 

And then I met Michimiya Yui.
