The first two paintings in my FAMILY series came easily to me in concept. I have eight more paintings in this series planned. For each of my immediate family members, I'm choosing a photo/time period/emotional connection that most expresses my feelings about them - not necessarily as an individual; but, more like how I see them as an individual separate from my relationship with each. Honestly, it's turning out to be a lot harder than I thought and I'm wondering why it was so easy with my parents? Maybe because they are both gone from this earth and my relationship with each is frozen where they left it. I don't know; but, I'll be pondering this a lot. When I decided to do this series, I knew exactly what I wanted to convey about each of my parents. Throwback... . This is an old digital piece I did based on a tiny, tiny reflection I caught in a photograph. The scene was wide with six or so people in it and as I was cropping the photo to post & tag the friends/family, I accidentally enlarged it 400%. I really love when something like that happens. This is the reflection. The photo is me, attempting to take a selfie with the gathered friends/family/pups in the background. The original photo came out alright and represented the feeling of the day well.
