Sherlock Fic Recs - non-slash OC’s
You really see authors shine when they add in original characters to the mix! How about some love for those OC’s that aren’t Sherlock and/or John’s parents, kids, or romantic interests? Here are a few of my favorites...feel free to add on!
As Others See Us by esterbrook (pre-Johnlock) - First person fic from the point of view of Shasta, a tourist in London who gets caught up in one of John and Sherlock’s cases. It’s lovely to watch her watch these boys dancing around each other. One of my faves!
At Least There’s the Football series by sheffiesharpe (Mystrade) - holy cats we get to meet Lestrade’s whole family, who are wonderful. A classic in the Mystrade fandom.
Winter’s Delights by Kate Lear (Johnlock) - Sherlock takes John to his parents for Christmas...where his entire extended family thinks they’re dating. There’s also a lovely remix from Sherlock’s cousin Evander’s point of view by innie here.
Parallel by brbsoulnomming (Johnlock) - A case on a college campus gets complicated when Sam and Fiona get thrown together and start investigating a murder on their own. Sam and Fiona’s growing relationship makes John and Sherlock start questioning their own feelings towards each other.
The Adventure of the Consulting Woman by DancingGrimm (Johnlock) - Sherlock hires a ‘consulting woman’ (Kirsty, who advises transgender people on their appearance when making the transition from one gender to another) to help him disguise himself to catch a murderer.
Master of Latham Hall by kryptaria (Johnlock) - Ghost story fic! John and Sherlock investigate a series of impossible murders at Latham Hall, which make it difficult for John to hide his feelings from Sherlock. I love how we get flashbacks back to Reggie Stewart and Harold Latham's relationship over the years after they come back from WWII. ALL the angst.
All Best and Brightest Creatures by wordstrings (Johnlock) - “Sherlock sent Jim Moriarty to prison for killing Carl Powers at age ten. This is the story of the consequences.“ Rec’d because of the craziness that is Shinwell Johnson. (WIP)
The Fabric of Life by OrphanAccount (Johnlock) - I’m glad this one was orphaned on AO3! Lovely, heartbreaking fic about Sherlock’s return after the fall. The OC’s in John’s grief support group, especially Ian, are wonderful. Think about it, can you still go to a grief support group when your loved one comes back from the dead?
