Never did I imagine that compiling a mini-book for the Handmade Book Draft would require so much time and attention. Preparing my mini-book was not a simple and easy task. First I had to choose the material that I wanted to put in my book. I searched through the contents of my Remixing the Book Assignment as well as the submissions collected from our Call for Entries. After deciding on the material I wanted to put inside of my book, I then began to fill in the Word document format provided by Dr. Bill Wolff. As I began to give each piece of material a place in the format, I began to realize that this Draft would require greater attention. I stepped away from the format and found 22 pieces of paper. Here, I wrote out what I wanted on each page of my Handmade Book. Then using those papers, I went back to the Word document format and reinserted my pieces of material. This made the process much easier and even more organized. After doing so, I felt very accomplished, until it was time to begin printing. Because I could not get the provided Handmade Book Template to open, I had to use the Pages document provided. When I went to print the Pages documents, I realized that both sheets would print separately, rather than back-to-back. In order for the Handmade Book Draft to successfully work, these pages needed to print back-to-back. Unaware of how to made this happen, I took my pages and copied them back-to-back by use of a copier machine. This then allowed me to properly put my pages in order and complete the next step in the process of the Handmade Book Draft.
I am looking forward to the final step in the process of the Handmade Book Draft. During Tuesday's class, I will be able to bind my book and have a finished version. I am excited to see the drafts that my group mates have compiled. It will be interesting to compare our drafts and begin thinking of the format we want for our Book Project.
