Response to Alicia MOD flash mob

This is a great way to raise money for this wonderful charity. I actually just recently learned what flash mobs were. I think that the support that the March of Dimes receives is terrific and helps raise awareness of not only prematurity but also the different ways mothers can help their child, unborn or born to have a healthy life. It is very important for mothers to get the care they need when they are expecting and March of Dimes helps with this and helps in many other ways. I am happy that we chose this charity to raise money for.

Poem

I was searching the internet to learn a little more about prematurity and stumbled across this poem written by a mother who lost her child due to prematurity. It is sad to read but raises awareness of prematurity, which is part of the March of Dimes mission.

This is for my daughter who was born too early lived 3 wks my angel.. Oct 26, 2005 Nov 18, 2005 I walked for you today I took the steps you never would be able to do. I walked for you and every other baby and child that has suffered due to being premature. I walked to stop every pregnant womens worst nightmare her baby being born too soon. I walked to stop ever premature babies pain. I walked so everyone knows you were here even though it was cut short by being born too soon. I walked to let everyone know how much I love you and miss you everyday. I walked so new mother has to visit there premature baby in the nicu WE LOVE YOU ALYSSA THERESA

After researching

After researching more about The March of Dimes for our introduction in our book, I learned that there are many fund raisers for this charity. The Bikers for Babies is a motorcycle run to raise money for the charity. There is also a fundraiser called Jail & Bail which consists of "prisoners" that actually meet with a judge and our charged with crazy crimes and put into the slammer to raise bail money which goes directly to March of Dimes. These are not real prisoners, they are regular people raising money for charity. Also World Prematurity Day was November 17th, 2011, this was the 1st time for this event, the event was developed to raise awareness of prematurity and help more babies lead healthy lives.

Finished our Proof Book

Well we have finally finished our proof book. While this was a long process and hard work, I am happy with what we have completed!! It looks fabulous and includes many great pictures and text to match! This book definitely was not an easy task to complete and proved to be time consuming but the finished product is worth all of that and more!!

March of Dimes has many ways its chooses to network itself two being very common networks that we as students are used: Facebook and Twitter.  March of Dimes uses as many resources and advertising as they can in order to promote this great nonprofit organization and I am proud to have the opportunity to help them promote!

Our book

Our book is finally getting to the last step. This step that we just completed, the rankings and the choosing of the images that we would like to use in our Motherhood themed book went smoothly. I think this was the longest process as well as finding remix images for our book. The remix images that our group found were all great images and all fit into our theme. However, we unfortunately were unable to use every one of them. Our group chose the best images for our book based on the content of the image and the relation to the book.

Submission Rankings

Today, Danielle, Maria, Alicia and I met to discuss the submissions for our Book Project as well as the rankings for each piece of material. We took the time to print all of the submissions as well as our own remix pieces. We then gathered together to agree on the vision of our Book Project. Once our vision was established, we then went through all of the material in our possession to choose which pieces will go into our book and which pieces will not. We were all able to agree on the pieces included in our book. With our chosen pieces in hand, we went through our ranking chart to see how our choices matched up to our rankings. Much to our surprise there was quite a variation between the two. Despite this fact, we all agreed that we had chosen the pieces best showcasing our theme, motherhood, and despite the vary in ranking, we will move onto the next step in the Book Project and use the pieces that we like best.

Now that we have chosen the material for our Book Project, I am anxious to begin working on our final copy of Moments to Cherish: A Book About Motherhood. With a clear vision for our book, a plethora of material to use, and an excitement within us, Danielle, Maria, Alicia and I are looking forward to what is to come.

Submissions Are In!

Our submissions are in our remix pictures are chosen and our books are finally underway.  I am so excited to combine all four of our visions into one to create this wonderful book to support March of Dimes. Our submissions were right on point and exactly what we were looking for.  We are so thankful to everyone who submitted.

Submissions to Call for Entries

On Thursday, our group was able to view the submissions collected from our Call for Entries. I waited in anticipation as one of my group mates downloaded the file containing the submitted material. As the two of us looked through the submitted pieces, I began to better understand the different routes our Book Project could take. I was excited to discuss with my group how we felt about the material submitted and the ways that we all planned to use it. We were fortunate enough to receive multiple pictures, some artwork, pieces of prose, and a poem. Each piece is unique in it's own way and through discussion and decision making we will be able to decide which pieces to include in our Book Project.

I am anticipating the next step in our Book Project. Now that we have our material, I am anxious to begin working with it. I look forward to the upcoming weeks and the creating of our book.

March of Dimes helps touch people like this everyday!  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help such a great organization.  I am eager to see how much my group and I will raise to donate to this organization in order to help them continue to help people this much day in and day out!  You can be apart of this too by checking out our call for entries.

I just finished searching for different media for our book. I came up with some awesome photos.. I hope we get many submissions for our book but if not at least we will have great media that we can use. I can not wait to see what everyone came up with.

Remixing the Book Assignment

Throughout the week, I have been working on the Remixing the Book assignment. This assignment deals with the public domain. We were asked to search for twenty pieces of material. These materials needed to be in the public domain or given the appropriate Creative Commons license. Once everyone within the group shares their findings, we will decide on pieces that will then be remixed into our books.

After searching through multiple resource sites, I was able to collect different media forms that I believe will be beneficial for our Book Project. I am looking forward to seeing what my group mates found and comparing their findings with my own. Hopefully we will have more than enough material to begin piecing our book together. As the production of our Book Project continues, I cannot help but to become more and more excited.

Blurb's BookSmart Software

After familiarizing myself with Blurb's BookSmart software and creating a few trial pages through the free software, I started to become even more excited for the production of our book. It made me realize even more so how much this book will be our own creation. I am excited to see the types of submissions we receive for our multi-genre book based on motherhood and how we will arrange them within our book.

As I viewed some of the example on Blurb's website, I could not help but begin to picture our book. It will be so surreal once we begin to work on it, piecing it together with the materials we will have prepared. The book preparation process only seems to get more and more exciting as the weeks move along. I am greatly looking forward to the next step in our book preparation process.

Call for Entries

It is so exciting to have people respond to us using Flickr, Facebook and Twitter. Our group has been sending information about our book using all forms of technology.  Although I have not heard back yet from people on Twitter I am going to keep trying.  There are so many people that you can find on these sites using the search engines and by interest.  Just typing in photographer, artists, and mothers I received many twitter accounts that could possibly be a match to submitting to our Motherhood themed book. I just have to keep on top of Twitter and keep sending the information to others. March of Dimes is a wonderful charity and we are thrilled to be able to help them. http://j.mp/cwip-mod

Book Project Generated

We have began to send out our call for entries and are anxiously awaiting some responses.  In just one day I have received multiple responses from Flickr, Twitter and Facebook alone not including responses my group mates may have received as well. I am actually rather shocked to see how easy it is to network a cause like this. When Dr. Wolff originally introduced this project to the class I was very nervous about receiving enough information to publish the book. I am also very excited about having the opportunity to help March of Dimes.

Call for Entries Preparation

After today's class, it became apparent how important getting the word out about our multi-genre book is through our Call for Entries. We spent the majority of the class time reaching out to individuals as well as preparing lists for potential other ways to contact people. It was amazing how much Alicia, Maria, Danielle, and I accomplished in such a short amount of time. We were able to reach out to many through multiple resources and devise plans for how to further our call. I look forward to the next two weeks as we continue to inform people about our book and their role in assisting us with it.
