Day Twelve: An Act of Rebellion: Eight Nights of Hope, by katmarajade
Fandom: Harry Potter; Rating:General; Words: 1k “During the Carrows’ reign of terror, Anthony decides to bring his House together in a surprising way.”
It’s the first night of Hanukkah! And so we’re going to hang out with Anthony Goldstein, the only canonical Jewish student at Hogwarts (siiiiiiiigh), and his fellow brave Ravenclaws trying to survive their terrifying 7th year. This fic was posted to Ao3 in 2013, but the sentiments expressed in it–of hope, of tenacity, of resistance–are REALLY DAMN RESONANT here in 2017. I’ll leave you with Anthony’s rallying speech to his House, and hope that it motivates you to give this fic a read, and leave the author some love.
“It’s about miracles, about hope, about light when the world around us is growing dimmer by the minute. It’s about faith, faith that someday this world will be a better place, someday we’ll find a way to take back our lives, our heritage, and our futures. We won’t have to hide from a tyrant and his evil minions. We won’t have to practice dark arts and hurt innocent people. Someday, someday, but not today. For now we wait and we hope and we refuse to let them win. This is our rebellion. Prohibited candles, forbidden assemblies, and eight nights of lights, of hope, of faith that we’re going to overcome this darkness eventually.”
