What you don’t think you need for college but absolutely do
Now that I have been in college for 1.5 years, I have a pretty good idea of what you need for college and what you really don’t. Below are my eight absolute must haves for college.
1) Rain boots
Rain in college is the worst, and I mean it. There’s nothing like getting to class and being soaked through, and pulling out a very soggy notebook to try to take notes in. Truly, the one thing that you can prevent when it comes to rain is getting your feet wet. I hate it when I have three more classes that day and my feet are already soaking. Get yourself a nice pair of neutral rain boots, and they will last a really long time.
2) Laundry rack
I’m pretty well known amongst my friends for not realizing I only have enough money on my account to run my clothes through the washer and not the dryer. Then, you end up left with wet clothes and no where to put them. I highly suggest getting a laundry rack to dry your clothes, it keeps them from frying in the dryer and saves money in the long run.
3) Multiple sets of headphones
Honestly the worst feeling is getting to the library after going to class and realizing you left your headphones in your dorm. To combat this I suggest having one pair of headphones in your dorm room, and one for your backpack, that way you are never without your headphones.
4) Stapler/Hole puncher
Unlike high school, when you go to turn in an assignment in college, most professors aren’t going to have a stapler sitting out for you to staple your assignment with. Getting a full sized stapler for college is a great investment, and will prevent the last minute rush to find one before an important deadline. Also, a hole puncher is a must if you plan to store your notes in a binder, because few college professor will hole punch their handouts for you.
5) Plastic ID holder/lanyard
The amount of times that I got locked out of my room while going to the bathroom, study room etc. during the first week was highly embarrassing. I suggest going to the bookstore on the first day to get a little plastic ID holder or a lanyard to keep your ID on so this doesn’t happen to you. But don’t take your lanyard with you to parties, just stick your ID inside your phone case.
6) Bath robe
Idk why but I never trust just wearing a towel back from the hall shower, I have this towel wrap from target that does the trick. A robe would also work, but my wrap takes up very little space. I also wouldn’t suggest bringing all of your clothes into the shower because they could easily get wet.
7) Mouse
As someone who spends a lot of time editing code, a mouse is a must have. Computer trackpads can only work so well. Just get a cheap wireless mouse off amazon that connects via USB.
8) Bedroom slippers
You might think that bedroom slippers are only for grandmas and little kids, but when you have to go the bathroom in the middle of the night, you’ll want something on your feet that aren’t slightly damp flip flops. They don’t have to be expensive, but you’ll want comfortable and soft.
