Hello, i am finished IB1 but i have struggled a lot in biology HL, so do you have any tips?
So I don’t take Biology HL so I can’t really help you with specifics, but here are some general IB science tips
1. Familiarize yourself with the syllabus
I know that everyone is going to tell you to do this but it really is something that you need to do. Many crises were avoided in my chem class last year because some crazy hard stuff didn’t actually need to be covered. Also, the syllabus blatantly states what types of problems that you need to know how to solve, which helps with reviewing.
2. Spend time doing your labs
Labs are actually really important, especially if you have good teacher for bio, so don’t forget to spend some time working with the hands on processes. This will help you learn more difficult things and make the material easier to understand. I know that I would have never figured out how to calculate for a titration if I hadn’t done a lab first.
3. Figure out what you don’t understand
In Chemistry, I like to go through the textbook for the chapter, flipping through and hardcore making sure that I know everything, that nothing is a surprise. If there is anything that I don’t understand that I need to know, I will take notes just on that topic. If I still don’t understand the material, I will go to the teacher or utilize one of the several chem textbooks my class uses. Chances are, if you have multiple textbooks, one of them will explain things in a way that you can understand.
While I know that there are many other tips for IB science (like practice problems or papers) generally the learning process should include; theoretical learning, practical learning, understanding, and revision.
