in a way, you’re always one degree of separation with a pwhl player if you’re committed enough.
almost caught up on hacks and I know what hannah einbinder said but those freaks with their weird homoerotic codependent bond to fuck NASTY style asap
I think searching through the ronance tag is the equivalent to psychological warfare sometimes
officially a master of library and information science !! and I couldn’t have done it without my deep love of knowing too much about useless things and also fanfiction
My ferocious statue of mama
this is petty as all hell but im bored at work and i figure i should go out with a bang in regards to my interactions with the bear fandom.
anyway. seeing how many people in the fanbase still call natalie "sugar" despite the show basically phasing it out and showcasing that it's a meanspirited nickname makes me so annoyed. i have a family nickname that i hate, and i cant help but empathize with nat on that aspect. it's not as if they had a plot about her reclaiming sugar as a nickname (partially because this show doesn't care about women), it's just the meanspirited nickname. also, they've showcased in the show that it's being phased as people grow and change. richie and donna both stop using it basically all together, as does jimmy (i believe), and the only person that does use it on a regular basis is carmy. the one that's still stuck in his ways and hasn't had proper growth to acknowledge his errors.
yes, carmy was probably never alive to know her as anything but sugar. but basically every other character has made the effort to stop calling her sugar and call her natalie or nat. i personally don't think we as a fanbase should be following carmy's lead on this.
also if you tell me im just being sensitive and reading too much into it, this is the "reading too much into it" show. sugar isn't just some cutesy nickname because she's sweet as can be, it was a mistake she made as a child that follows her well into adulthood.
need to rant into the void about the claims of “the subway” by Chappell roan as a perfect song for a one last stop movie and the notion of the existence of this movie and I just. Hhhh.
first, the subway is like the antithesis of one last stop. I know this book like the back of my hand, and the subway is very much a song about moving on and grappling with a breakup, and I suppose we can make it work for the time between when Jane gets zapped back and when she finds August again, but it has very little to do with the actual plot of the book beyond that. I think a lot of people heard the line “just another girl on the subway” and took it as gospel.
Also…we all watched the rwrb movie, right? We saw how poorly film studios handled translating that to the screen? why would you want that for a far more complex book? there is no good way in my opinion to translate ols to the screen because its a very dense book. yes you can cut all the stuff with augusts family, but the family stuff is the only reason they can keep billys and thus how jane can find august when she comes back. the invisible string between august and jane is dependent on augie's existence. however, to a movie team, it's the easiest to cut because you don't really think its that relevant until the end. or they'll cut out all the side characters, which is just as detrimental because again, they all play a role in the greater story. yes, wes is an easy cut because hes not a psychic link (literally) like niko or the mechanics of the operation like myla, but he's also august's mirror. he needs to be there to show her that there can be good in the world for people like them. niko and myla are too full of love and openness for august to immediately trust them. yes, you can make niko a tattoo artist or whatever, but you can't change the emotional role wes plays. i could make a list of all the ways you could change ols to make it palatable for moviegoers and how they dont work but i won’t.
I would love to see ols on a big screen. Or just a screen. but I don’t trust movie producers and writers to make this movie and not butcher it entirely. I don’t trust the notoriously racist and fatphobic industry to not be racist and fatphobic. and even if cmq is in the room the entire time, I don’t think it’ll ever translate.
