The most unfunny, repetitive, and boring "joke" mha fans has made is this:

"Bakugou's biggest trauma is the river hahaha"

Meanwhile: 1. The kid got assaulted and choked to death while everyone was laughing/filming and pro heros were just watching, 2. he got humiliated on national TV and was treated like an animal, 3. he was kidnapped by the most dangerous villain group of the country where adults were trying to brainwash him into joining them, 4. After he was saved, he got zero emotional comfort and instead got victim blamed by literally everyone SPECIALLY his own mother, 5. Blamed himself for ending his idol's career, 5. Got impaled and almost died, 6. Was mentally and physically tortured by the most vicious man alive, 7. LITERALLY DIED while he was alone and none of his friends were there, 8. The moment he woke up he was immediately sent back to fight like he's a weapon and was faced with what? His idol getting ripped in half, 9. He was told it's better to sever his arm because he may never be able to move it again, 10. Couldn't even use his arm or quirk for years

It all happened in ONE Year and he got NO emotional comfort from anyone. In mha, characters get crying ceremonies for less.... But ofc, in Shonen fans' pov, trauma doesn't count if it hasn't happened before the age of 10 or if it's sth they can't relate to🙄

Some takes on Katsuki explode my head.

Ppl do realize Katsuki getting praised wasn't a good thing, right? SPECIALLY after the sludge villain incident. It was so dehumanizing. This kid, a civilian, was getting choked to death by a grown adult while his body was getting swallowed by him too, and all these useless pro heros were just watching because they were scared of Katsuki's explosive quirk, civilians were happily filming it like it's a festival, and it was so bad that a quirkless kid who knew him had to intervene.

Now imagine after all this, the same useless pros who were just watching, instead of asking him how he is or even treating him like a human and scolding him (for roaming around carelessly), they were praising him and his quirk. Even a bum had the audacity to ask him to be his sidekick in future. Why? Because he has a good quirk, he's expected to be strong and tough it out, he's expected to be a future hero, one of the top ones. This is what the society and adults around him has been telling him since he was 4.

you see the exact same treatment after each trauma he goes through. Remember after he got kidnapped, teachers and his parents neglected his mental state to the point he ended up picking a fight with izk and having a breakdown? All might admitted to neglecting him back then too. In addition, we literally have a call back to the praises in sludge incident and the heavy weight of expectations on Katsuki's back. all might starts praising Katsuki for his strength in the sludge incident, Katsuki finally in response says "no, I'm weak too" in a very tired voice. And for the first time in Katsuki's life, an adult understands "I was distracted by your strength, I burdened you with it. you too are just a kid"

And all these expectations were put on his back since he was a 4 yo in addition to the fact that he was a child prodigy. He gets a flashy quirk (that even isn't the strongest) and first thing his kindergarten teacher does is praising him with "you will be a hero". In addition to these expectations, it also added to his ego and made him think he was the god of universe. So yeah, the praises were definitely not a good thing. Mitsuki says it later too.

So in the aftermath of the sludge incident, Hori was trying to make a point here and portray how fucked up their society was (and remained like that till the end imo) for even a person that is supposed to be on top of the chain. A corrupted system is harmful to everyone who grows up in it, even the privileged ones. Also it was the start of showing what environmental and sociological factors could have affected Katsuki's characterization, beliefs, and insecurities. No, mha fans, he wasn't born like that and he wasn't behaving like that for "love of the game".

Katsuki stans talking about this or other factors in his past aren't trying to justify Katsuki's actions or put the blame on others (like how fans of characters that have done way worse than him do), it's just ppl pointing out what's in canon and why hori put these scenes in the plot. But ppl attack you if you do and accuse you of taking the agency from him (💀).

Katsuki saying "if they said they wanna surpass me, I'd hire them" implies he is actively looking for a protégé who is exactly like his younger self and how he always viewed all might.

All might used to get treated like a god and was worshipped by everyone, but that's not how Katsuki saw him. While he admired all might, he didn't want to be him, he wanted to win like him and SURPASS HIM.

His whole life, Katsuki was put on a pedestal by ppl around him and was worshipped by them. Which was shown that it wasn't good for him. So now as an adult, he doesn't want those type who see him as a god (and because of that, are intimidated by him) to follow him around, he wants sidekicks who see him as human, so they yearn to surpass him. Just like how younger Katsuki wanted to do that with all might. In addition, he wants to train ppl who are serious about heroism and worth his time (if they're gonna pee themselves out of fear when they meet dynamight, how are they going to be heros?).

In other words, he is looking for the younger version of himself to mentor.

I'm still not over the fact that how irresponsible UA was for putting Katsuki on national TV when he was in that situation. That led him to getting kidnapped by the most dangerous villains in the country and he was in high risk of getting killed. Even after his rescue, his mental state was damaged and destroyed.

Sport festival in the first place, shouldn't be live for everyone to watch. It practically puts the students weak points and how their quirk works on blast, making them fragile to possible villains attacks. But in this case, it's even worse: UA teachers saw a kid refusing to get the medal because in his head, he didn't really earn it, and said "hmmm 🤔 we are gonna chain him on the podium like a feral animal and not only humiliate him and ruin his reputation for his future career, but also would expose him to villains who might take benefit of the situation"

They should have sent him home. Or kept him in a room with a teacher. They shouldn't have forced him to go on the podium when he didn't want to. They did it for their own ego and reputation and didn't care about the bad image this kid would be viewed later by media and society.

There's a brainless take his antis who can't form their own opinions repeat like a parrot: "he wanted to kill shoto and everyone else, they had to protect them🤡". No he didn't want to kill anyone, do you even know anything about the story? At least if you're gonna mischaracterize and dehumanize him and think he's a psycho who just kill anyone, consider this: he wants to be a hero, do you really think he'd commit a literal crime on cameras? Also there were so many pro heros and teachers there, are you implying this kid (hero in training) is going to solo all of them? Who do you think he is? Prime all might? These ppl are just dumb and can't think for themselves.

he just didn't want to get the medal, he didn't want to accept #1 because he didn't think he actually won since shoto didn't use his whole quirk on him. He was mad at him and didn't see himself as the winner. But UA instead of sending him home or keeping him away from the podium somewhere safe with a teacher, FORCED HIM to stand on the podium and FORCED the medal on him and filmed it live and showed it to the whole world😐😐😐 UA is seriously such a trashy place lol

And no it was NOT a gag scene when it had a crucial effect on the plot and literally started a whole arc later. Shigaraki saw that scene and thought the society is restraining Katsuki and he's oppressed. by kidnapping him he seriously thought he's doing a favor to him and saving him.(well part of it was for helping him, but the other parts of his plan also stemmed from UA putting Katsuki on blast like that on TV). I hate when we talk about it ppl bring up the "hey UA girl" to mock us, when there's actually someone in canon who thought that was a wrong thing to do to a child, yes the main villain of the story, Shigaraki.

This fandom dehumanize Katsuki to the point thinking a child getting humiliated and restrained by literal chains on a podium in front of the whole world is sth to gloss over.

In conclusion, UA has a responsibility to protect its students from these type of threats but instead they exposed Katsuki to them. That school has so many problems and they were never solved lol

Also if anyone thinks a child deserves to get beaten or chained like that as a punishment for bad behavior, 1. Reread the remedial arc it was explained this type of treatment is WRONG, 2. You're messed in the head and pls stay away from kids.

You can be frustrated with how kurogiri's ending was handled (I know I am), but trying to use that to hate on Katsuki and acting like he's an evil character is ridiculous. What did you expect him to do exactly?

Katsuki just came back and quickly saw that izuku was getting swallowed to be transferred somewhere else. All of them would've been DOOMED if that happened. Katsuki had to quickly explode him and not letting that happen. He once again saved everyone. The part that doesn't make sense is kurogiri dying from it. since when ONE Katsuki explosion kills someone?

Also ppl are like "why bkg did not sympathize with kurogiri?" you should read this in Katsuki's pov. For him, kurogiri is just another nomu that very much was assisting in his horrifying kidnapping and USJ attack (which was very close to lead to the death of his teachers and classmates.) we as the audience, saw oboro's smile and humanization last episode and are aware of his backstory, but does Katsuki know it as well? (another flaw in writing imo). He didn't even know kurogiri was the one who helped heros and transferred everyone there. He woke up in hospital/paramedics' helicopter and flied MILES to reach the battlefield HIMSELF. he didn't use the portals like the rest of class 1A. Last time he remembers kurogiri is from when the LOV wanted to FORCE him to go with THEM, while his idol was fighting against AFO for him (in which, all that led to retirement of his idol and him having the most fucked up mental health. please don't take the kidnapping incident and aftermath lightly). He literally REMEMBERS him as a nomu that was controlled by AFO.

Also yall hating on Katsuki for "killing mic's and aizawa's childhood friend" but did mic or aizawa even show any reaction? Mic's reaction was just "wait what are you doing here? You should go to the hospital". So this is not a Bakugo problem, this is hori forgetting about certain plot lines/characters or just abandoning them. Also shoto was the one who created a ramp for Katsuki and the rest of 1A supported him exploding kurogiri as well. Why none of them get any hate if it's about sympathy? In fact, if they could, they would have done it themselves, kurogiri was literally about to make an irreversible big mess.

There are others who are like "he died for Bakugo hype" and I have to laugh so hard. First of all, why do you act like this fictional character has his own will and decisions? Acting like if hori didn't bring Katsuki back kurogiri would have been alive. No, he would have killed him off anyway. Also what hype? What glaze exactly? This literally was a still frame and izuku didn't even react to it. In addition, THE bakugou Katsuki does not need kurogiri to get hype. He IS the HYPE himself. And finally, thinking horikoshi after episode 4 would glaze or hype Katsuki or even give him any positive aspects or personal conclusion is funny when this is how he treats him in time skip. He just wanted to kill off another villain and used Katsuki and a season one parallel for it.

I mean the majority of Bakugo hate comes from ppl dehumanizing him and forgetting about his pov and all the horrifying shit he has gone through by villains. So I'm not even surprised. Also the majority of ppl who hate now, don't even care about kurogiri and has never talked about him before. They are just jumping at another opportunity to hate on Katsuki or are mad their own favs with less injuries didn't show up to the battlefield, lol.

Final word: a real big flaw of writing is Katsuki not having a reflection on killing two villains (kinda killing? Pushed them to their death? Because both of them were dying: afo was getting rewind and Katsuki's attack made it happening faster and kurogiri died from just one explosion). The rule was that heros can't kill and we know how much of a rule follower Katsuki is. He literally was kidnapped, but only fought back because aizawa has allowed him to. This is the problem of writing that no one is upset with izk and Katsuki for killing them (after what happened with hawks) and also Katsuki not being allowed to have any reflection on it. Because Katsuki was extremely sidelined in the epilogue and couldn't even reflect on his own death or future career path. these are all problems of writing not the author trying to portray him as an evil person.

I think an important aspect of Bakugo VS AFO is that Katsuki very much could have made the fight about taking revenge. After all, AFO mentally and physically tortured him and then killed him. In addition, AFO is the villain who ended his idol and once again was about to kill him. But Katsuki didn't even bring them up.

For Katsuki, the fight was about winning to save everyone, as he claimed in his post-apology monologs. It was about how much he has grown and accepted everyone else's help "I couldn't have won on my own". It's about what he had reformed in his heroism. What he had defined as his perfect victory. And there is a great symbolism in defeating AFO, who have strong parallels with Katsuki's past self and worldview. And that's why Katsuki was smiling the entire time.

A revenge fight, as cool as it could have looked, would never show off his growth and development as a hero.

Saw a post saying "bkg always needed saving each arc but ocha didn't" and that means "she's a better character and Katsuki is useless" somehow Lmao. Yeah mineta and Koda and any side character also didn't need saving each arc, does that make them a better character? 😭 Katsuki is the most important protagonist after izk, important enough to get targeted and given huge focus on him each arc. Important enough that resembles the main theme of the story (to save and be saved) along side izk the best. Also his most recent "getting saved"s was because he was in the front line and SACRIFICED his life for others. He saved lives and then got saved. This literally is the main theme of the manga according to hori. Katsuki's arc from the start till the beginning, defines the theme of the story perfectly. Start with the river scene and sludge villain: end with how he multiple times saves Izuku. Or all might saving him from sludge villain and later afo: at the end Katsuki saves all might from AFO. Kiri reaching out to him to save him: Katsuki giving him inspirational words that helped him when he went against that villain. Him saving the floating UA squad by his sacrifice (buying time) : mirko and Mirio protecting his body and jeanist and edgeshot working on his heart in middle of chaos. Them saving Katsuki's life and reviving him: Katsuki going against afo and once again saving their lives. Best jeanist recruiting him to mentor him and reform his view: Katsuki saving him from nomus in first war after he literally got stabbed in the heart when he sacrificed his life for deku. His arc defines the main theme perfectly and ofc it should. He is the deturgenoist and has always been part of the core of the story.

Your fav didn't have to get saved each arc because there wasn't that much of a focus on her before s6 unfortunately and also she didn't really went front line and didn't sacrifice her life before season 7. The one time she did, she also had to get saved, by a villain. BECAUSE GETTING SAVED AND SAVING IS THEME OF THIS DAMN MANGA. HORI LITERALLY SAID IT.

Do you think Katsuki would feel some sort of emptiness when he finally achieves number one and holds his place?

Also, the ranking has turned to a joke. It's not mostly about skills and saves but it's about some unknown factors that weren't explained very well. All we know is: bkg dropped in the ranking because he yelled at a civilian who was invading his space while he was fighting with a villain, hagakure climbed the ranking because a glitch happened and everyone saw her, Izk was already under 100 because of teaching in ua, Katsuki climbs the ranking each time he teams up (which imo indicates it's because of better pr), so it's not what Katsuki had in mind with the old ranking. It's mostly pr and anyone can just climb it with being good in front of cameras. Because in fan book it said Katsuki had more skills than the current number one hero and the only reason he didn't reach it was stated to be "his language". So even if Katsuki changed his whole personality and became number one, the meaning of that ranking is way different from what he always wanted (surpassing AM and becoming number 1). That's why I feel like he'd hit with a wave of emptiness when he achieve it that way.

I always thought hori added the rivalry thing to the goal to prevent this, but with the way he wrote the ending, not only none of his peers was willing to compete with him anymore, but also even sidekicks weren't passionate enough to tell him they wanted to surpass him. And it's so unlike the main plot where Katsuki always inspired or provoke others to be competitive with him (even his haters in sport festival). In addition, apparently the villains and natural disasters don't exist anymore and being a pro hero is a dying job 😕 so even if Katsuki wanted to compete with anyone what would the rivalry be about? Catching cookie thieves faster? It all feels so empty to me.

Someone said he was waiting for izk because he's the strongest and he wanted to surpass the strongest but this is so wrong: 1. The only reason Katsuki didn't achieve number one was because of his language (it's word by word written in the fan book) 2. There are no criminals left so I don't understand how deku's strength would have any affect on this 3. If you think bakugou Katsuki would hold back you don't know him at all. Katsuki giving it his all means he's respecting his opponent. By claiming he didn't feel like working, you are implying he's looking down on his peers and disrespecting them. Which is a total character regression for him.

Aside from the fact that it has always been a harmful concept in the society, I feel like if they abolished the ranking it'd feel less ridiculous and empty too. And hori should have at least let Katsuki express how he feels for not achieving his dream (that he repeated every 5 sec of the series) or what he thinks about the new ranking and situation and what he wants to do from now on. But instead he was sidelined for some useless plot.
