"Cat and Mouse", Gdańsk, II. World War. Reading this book was an up and down. The plot felt boring for the first half, but I love the artistic and intelligent language of Grass, perpetual. Its always sound to me like, now let's get started, work needs to be done, in a droll way. . The main theme is responsibility and guilt. The first-person narrator "Pilenz" has a love-hate relation to the main character "Joachim Mahlke". In one moment he is his friend and in another he convinces a cat to attack Mahlke's huge adam's apple that looks like a mouse. But I did not feel this love-hate thing. I saw Pilenz as a pretty neutral person, that later thinks about, what part was my fault in Mahlkes destiny? So the two attacks came surprising for me. . The story is a debate about the handling of what happened in World War II. It doesn't accuse it, it only accuses the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross. It offers us the question; when do I become guilty too? I would recommand it because Grass is always high literature and so interesting, but since I wasn't much into the characters and the plot, I'm happy it isn't that big. . #katzundmaus #catandmouse #güntergrass #grass #danzig #gdansk #literature #bookstagram #instabook #bookstagrammer #igreads #guyswhoread #gayswhoread #instagood #beautiful #photooftheday #visualsoflife #literatur #leseempfehlung #грасс #гюнтерграсс #кошкимышки #литература #букстаграм {unpaid ad} https://www.instagram.com/p/Bq-WlndFsTh/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1rqivvy9icchg
