Indian social system is generally classified in to 4 varnas based on tasks, work and profession any individual performs: Bramhins (One who Teaches), Kshatriyas (One who Protects), Vaishyas (One who Trades) and Shudras (One who serves the other 3).
But only one community in entire mythological, historical and cultural references doesn’t fall in to this. They are Kayastha
Kayasthas are descended from Chitragupta, “who was born from the body of Brahma“, and is the deity responsible for recording the deeds of humanity, upholding the rule of law, and judging whether human beings go to heaven or hell upon death

Although with time, Kayasthas too were classified in to many permutations and combinations. Mostly consider them Bramhins, while there is a large group of people in Bengal mostly as Kshatriyas where Kayasthas were rulers.
