The Kazon are an insectoid species native to the Gamma Quadrant. They are aggressive, warlike, and highly territorial, and their population is divided into constantly changing sects. Biologically, the Kazon are hermaphroditic; each individual is capable of both carrying and siring offspring. Socially, almost all Kazon are male. Female Kazon occur once every few generations, and are a kind of servant class.
Kazon live in family groups consisting of a lead male (the Maj), several secondary males, and their children, anywhere from three to six at a time. Only the Maj produces offspring. Eggs are laid semi-annually in clutches of up to 50 and guarded ferociously during incubation, but sibling rivalry is common and even encouraged, and only a handful ever make it to maturity.
