I went to a marriage during the afternoon, in the heat of the deadly Indian summer and ate HOT HOT food and returned home sweating like fuck. And it was totally dumb of me to do. (And for them to organize..)

1. If you could have any kind of pet, what would it be and what would you name it?

HEDGEHOG. This is all @gloriagilbertpatch‘s fault. Alas, Australia has laws about me having hedgehogs. Well, not me specifically. Anyone. They’re not native, and the Australian government gets cranky about that kind of thing.

2. What is your most random fear?

There is a really sharp, specific pain in my right calf muscle right now, and I’m irrationally convinced it’s a blood clot and I’m going to die. It’s probably not, though.

3. Is there a book, tv show or movie you loved but the ending ruined it for you? What was it?

Gilmore Girls comes pretty fucking close, if by ‘ending’ you mean ‘all of season seven’. I just skip that whole season now because I love Gilmore Girls. I’m glad Rory didn’t marry Logan, though. That is one OOC moment even those writers had to see was insanity. In fact, the finale was kind of a lot more appropriate than the rest of the season in general.

4. What food item did you used to hate but have come to love?

Matcha. I first had it when I was about seven, as part of a Japanese tea ceremony that appeared in my life with no context. I was expecting it to taste like tea, and thus was immensely disappointed - tea in my childhood home meant chai masala or strong, milky black tea with heapings of sugar. You may notice that matcha resembles neither of those things, and thus I was disgusted by it.

I had it again years later in green tea ice cream and realised that when you’re not expecting it to taste like black tea, it is awesome. This now informs my entire life philosophy: Whenever I don’t like something, it’s usually only because I expected it to be different. Knowing that enables me to adjust my expectations and like a lot of things. But not raw capsicum. That shit is disgusting.

5. Where in the world would you least like to live?

The Central Valley. No offence, guys. I just spent a month there and not only was it an immensely depressing place, it is currently in the midst of a horrific drought and it has a random fungal disease called Valley Fever which ofc I immediately contracted. It is not a place full of happy people with high ambitions. It is Gatsby’s Valley of Ashes, sometimes literally, and it is full of Americans who have been lied to about their chances of success - and some of them have worked that out.

6. If you could meet one fictional character, who would it be?

Ifemelu from Americanah. I just feel like our senses of humour line up in a way where we could chat for hours over a really long lunch and not get bored.

7. If you had to road trip with a celebrity, who would you pick?

Mindy Kaling would actually be the most fucking fun. I challenge you to think up someone who would be more entertaining or have better taste in road trip music. Also she would definitely demand we stay nice places, and definitely pick up the tab because she’d know that it was her fault we were staying there. And I feel like she would really appreciate the necessity of road trip snacks. It’d just be a great trip all round, and one that should definitely happen.

8. What was your best birthday? Why?

My 18th was pretty excellent. Talked a bartender into accepting my student card as valid ID, and paraded up and down my city’s major arts festival handing out cake to random human beings because we were too full to finish the whole thing. Yeah, Imma go with that.

9. If you could on watch one tv show, read one book and watch one movie for the rest of your life, which ones would you choose?

This is an evil question and you are evil for asking it.

TV: Grey’s Anatomy because it’s literally never ever going to end so at least I won’t run out of episodes.

Book: The Complete Jane Austen because I’m a dirty dirty cheat.

Movie: Amelie because it’s my happy place.

10. What song do you hate?

Words cannot describe how much Holly Valance hurts my ears, as an artist. Of all the Australian soapie-actresses-turned-singers, her songs were the worst. They recently came back to haunt me when we played the 2003 So Fresh compilation CD on a road trip, and the sample of her work made me want to snap the CD in half. *shudders*. Just. Don’t even look her up.

11. What possession have you had the longest?

I have a stuffed giraffe my grandmother gave me when I was born. She is covered in flowers and I named her Flower Giraffe because I was an imaginative baby. She’s the greatest.
