Our local club KBFTN had their season opening tournament on Old Hickory Lake this past weekend. My buddy Adam Riser and I battled it out for the top spot. He came out on top and took home the win out of 58 anglers. If there’s any one I don’t mind loosing to, it would definitely be him. He puts more time on the water than 99% of anglers I know, and his win was very well deserved. It was an absolute beautiful weekend to be out on the water. I wasn’t the only one to think that, because it was ridiculously crowded out there! Good to see people getting out of the house and enjoying the outdoors. All the regional tournaments that I travel to are still being postponed and rescheduled, but thankfully our local club is able to continue on with having tournaments in a safe manor where people don’t have to come in contact with each. I really want to thank Ashley, Shane, Daniel, and Terry for their dedication to our club and all the hard work they put in to make these tournaments happen. The 6th KBFTN event of the year was a night tournament on Piercy Priest Lake, from 6pm until 1:30am. It was a stormy night with gusty winds but the fish didn’t seem to mind. I was fortunate enough to pull off another 1st place finish. I will be donating 25% of my winnings to the Harpeth Conservancy. Stop #5 for KBFTN was at Drakes Creek on Old Hickory Lake. With all the rain we had this past week, the water was high and fairly stained. I started off with a buzzbait for the first hour but had no luck, so I switched it up to a black and blue jig an immediately started to catch fish. I never put it down all day and caught close to 30 fish. At the end of the day I ended up in 2nd place, just 1/4” short of Shane McIntyre! Squeaked out a first place finish at fourth stop for KBFTN at Piercy Priest Lake. I had to work through quite a few small 12-14” to catch a few better fish. Conditions kept changing throughout the day and I ended up catching fish on 7-8 different lures, fishing at depths between 1-25 feet. I will be donating 25% of my winnings to the Harpeth Conservancy. Day one of the KBFTN season went quite well today! I caught my personal best Old Hickory Lake Bass and am currently in the lead out of 43 anglers, with one more day to fish tomorrow.
