The truth was that Jaskier was the result of a child's surprise. Surprisingly, his grateful parents discovered that the witcher who claimed him never returned to collect.

Years later, at Kaer Morhen, everyone is shocked to learn that it was Lambert—drunk at the time—who had invoked the law of surprise.

Now, Lambert is taken quite seriously as Jaskier’s "Papa," and he’s constantly angry with Geralt. His words are clear: "You’re no good for my child," or "Never speak to me or my son again."

No matter how many times Jaskier insists that Lambert isn’t his father, it makes no difference.

Winters at Kaer Morhen are brutal—bitter, biting, and unrelenting. Jaskier does not care for the cold. Not one bit.

Each night, he seeks out the nearest, warmest body to curl up beside, shamelessly chasing comfort like a cat chasing sunbeams. Most of the Witchers don’t mind. They find his nightly quests endearing, like a particularly vocal, clingy kitten.

Geralt, on the other hand, minds very much.

Not that he says anything. But lately, strange things have been happening—like how his room seems suspiciously warmer than the others. Maybe it’s a coincidence. Or maybe Geralt’s been subtly, stubbornly trying to become Jaskier’s preferred heat source.

It’s Jaskier’s first winter at Kaer Morhen, visiting with Geralt, and everything is going surprisingly well. So well, in fact, that Geralt feels comfortable enough to head out on a short hunting trip with Ciri, leaving the others to keep an eye on the bard.

What could possibly go wrong?

Apparently, quite a bit.

After a minor magical mishap, Jaskier ends up accidentally transformed into a mouse.

Now, the remaining witchers are in full-blown panic. Geralt entrusted them with his bard, and somehow, they managed to misplace him—literally. With Kaer Morhen home to dozens of mice, they now have only a couple of days to figure out which one is Jaskier and reverse the spell.

All before Geralt returns and finds out they lost his bard to a cheese hoard
