→ RELATIONS

Father: Kel as Mas'tyrr gave everything to his father. Love, devotion, and murder were constants on the altar. And yet… he was still a failure. He begot no bhaalspawn of his own, save one which he slaughtered along with the rest of her line. He swore it was just because he wanted to give his father worthy grandchildren but that wasn’t it. Was it selfishness? A desire to be Bhaal’s only? Who can say now.

When Kel learned of his past, his love had already moved to another and he had none left for the father who abandoned him. He gave Bhaal everything but not a drop of loyalty was returned. Kel could not love a father who did not love him back.

Orin: Kel never saw Orin as his sister. She was an inbred pest that he tolerated. Her insistence that they are siblings irritated him as Mas’tyrr. It implied they were equals, which they were not.

Post lobotomy, Kel hates Orin more than anything or anyone. Traitors are the worst sort of being. Loyalty is a virtue which holds everything together for Kel. Without it, his worldview implodes and he becomes dangerous. Orin (and Bhaal) betrayed him, triggering his cataclysmic wrath.

Foster Family: Kel was placed with a Lolthite foster family as an infant. His foster mother hated her sister and wrongly believed Kel was her nephew who killed her sister in childbirth. Delighted by the humiliating death he gave her sister, the woman took him in to raise him to be a courtesan bargaining chip in Menzo. He didn’t speak until he was six, after his newborn foster brother “disappeared under mysterious circumstances”. His older foster sister was always unsettled by him. When he was 98, his sister plotted to disrupt a carefully constructed social web he had built for himself, disrupting his leverage over several women interested in him. The following night Kel killed and ate his foster mother and burned the family home down. He left Menzo and his “foster sister”, meeting Sceleritas Fel and learning his origins.

Children: While in Menzo, Kelandrin had a single child with a young drow woman who was seeking to rebel against her own precarious situation. The child was born after he left but he was well aware of her existence. Unlike Kel, she and her line were prolific breeders and she continued his bloodline down several generations. Over the next 200 years he would return often to the Underdark to cull this rogue bloodline one by one, eating them as an act of returning Bhaal’s blood to himself.

Introducing Volyrr - a.k.a, my Dark Urge!

Thank you to @charmedcleric and @auspex-author for this tag!! I'm a bit late to it because I wanted to do it for my durge character Volyrr (he/they) but my computer deleted all my screenshots of him & his save file off my memory stick (laptop went for repairs) because it hates him. 😔 Now that I've healed from that annoyance and have restarted his save file... on with the tag! I tag @thisisagift-youknow, @savriea, and @thegoblinwitchqueen ~ no pressure!

AN: I have ideas to eventually write a prequel Durgetash fanfic using Volyrr. If you think that's something you might be interested in, (it won't be for a while) you might not want to read the following as there will be heavy spoilers!

Baby:

Birth/Parents:

Volyrr's father is Bhaal who, of course, poofed him into the world. He was created to be a Lolth-sworn drow to put fear into the heart of his enemies, however, before he could be found by Drow in the Underdark, he was discovered by a Myconid colony who took him in and raised him as their own.

First word / tantrum / walk / sickness:

He communicated with Myconid's through telepathy, so his technical first word wasn't actually until he was six, when he said 'thank you' in common to a travelling merchant who'd gifted him an apple from the surface.

Childhood:

Friends:

Volyrr had friendships within the Myconid colony and was wary of any outsiders. He never met another child throughout his whole childhood as Myconid's are created, not born, and children don't tend to explore the Underdark. Because of this, his main friendships outside of family came from animals of the Underdark - especially the rothe.

Siblings:

He did not have siblings in a typical manner - the whole Myconid colony were his caregivers without any distinctive roles.

Getting into trouble:

He rarely got into trouble as there wasn't much potential to; he was well disciplined by the colony and taught that peace was the ultimate way of life.

Birthday:

The concept of 'birthday' was foreign to him during his childhood. Later in life, he decided to just tell people it was the same day as Winter Solstice because it was easy to remember.

Games / Learning something new:

Because of his unique upbringing, he developed druidic powers (Circles of Spores, for obvious reasons) very early. His favourite game was to transform into a rothe and race against his animal friends. He was a very athletic kid.

Trauma:

He was a happy child, content living the Myconid way of life because he didn't know there was any other alternative. He, of course, experienced deaths within the colony - but was taught that death was a beautiful inevitability. He didn't fear it.

Teenager:

Rebellion / Running away:

I moved this label to the top of this section as it's important for clarifying the rest. When he started puberty (age 20) he also started developing the Dark Urges™ from papa Bhaal. It wasn't long until he was cast out of his colony as they revered peace even above family and could sense his urges through their telepathic bond. The urges became worse after leaving the colony and lead him to the surface, where he spent the majority of his time in wild form, hunting down prey to satisfy his urges.

Reckless behaviour:

Volyrr was reckless in murdering adventurers, not knowing the laws of the land. He was caught in the act many times but his druidic magic was powerful and witnesses didn't stand a chance. He only got seriously hurt a handful of times and was able to escape and heal himself with medicine proficiency.

First love:

After some decades of living mostly in wild form, Volyrr had learnt a lot about surface society by watching passing adventurers and had picked up a good amount of common - though was a selective-mute who rarely spoke. He travelled to Baldur's Gate and there met a fellow run-away - Enver Gortash, who was of the same proportional age (late-teen). Volyrr's quiet disposition and Enver's chatty, outgoing personality made for a compatible dynamic, and so they became fast friends. Volyrr quickly developed a crush on Enver; the first person to ever bother getting to know him as people were always put off by his drow birth and mutism.

Peer pressure:

Some years later, Gortash was recruited by the cult of Bane and pressured Volyrr into joining him. After doing so, Volyrr started receiving direct communication from his father in the form of Sceleritas Fel and decided to join the cult of Bhaal instead. This caused a rift in his and Enver's relationship and they fell out as a result.

Taking responsibility:

Volyrr was never forced to take responsibility for his crimes as there were never any surviving witnesses to them and he was encouraged by the cult of Bhaal to continue his murdering ways.

Adulthood:

Aging:

Again, I moved this to the top just for consistency's sake! Volyrr ages as a normal drow - reaching adolescence at age 20 and adulthood at 80. At the start of Baldur's Gate 3, he is in his mid-nineties.

Their "first time":

His first time was with Enver after they reunited over a decade after falling out, now both the chosen of their gods. It had happened spontaneously after they'd gotten drunk celebrating having stolen the Crown of Karsus.

Serious relationships:

After his first time with Enver, the two started acting more as a couple than just friends/partners in crime. The two never labelled their relationship and weren't exclusive, but Enver was his first love and first relationship.

After losing his memories during the events of Baldur's Gate 3, he entered into a serious relationship with Astarion and later Halsin as a polycule. When he re-met Enver in Baldur's Gate, he had no recollection of the relationship they once had and was convinced by Halsin to kill him rather than partner with him; ending the archduke's reign of terror.

Work:

Before BG3, he was the chosen of Bhaal and ran the cult of Bhaal. After the events of BG3, he returns to the Underdark with Astarion and the other vampire spawn, helping to source food for them.

Finding your place:

When Volyrr had woken up on the Nautiloid, the only memories he had were of his childhood before the urges began - this meant that he had advanced knowledge of the Underdark and still largely considered it his home. This is one of the reasons he chose to join Astarion in the Underdark rather than stay with Halsin on the surface - the other reason being that he knew Astarion would need him more. Halsin didn’t join the two, not able to leave nature behind, and so they departed amicably as friends.

Starting a family/ Found family:

Volyrr had travelled only with Astarion and Halsin, loving them both with his whole heart. After moving to the Underdark with Astarion, he considered the vampire spawn to be his new family, thinking it reminiscent of the Myconid colony he grew up in... also, he adopts a Bulette as his pet, names it Meatball, and uses it to ride around like a horse. 🫡

I just love my guy so much and I hope that you do too now.🥺❤️ It'll be fun to eventually write fanfic for him. I might do another one of these posts for Tavlyn after finishing LMTTD, but I with hold off for now because spoilers. 😉 xo

Bound and midnight for freyr - @kelandrin

bound: Has your OC ever been imprisoned or captured? What happened? How did they get out? Did the experience leave any scars?

They have definitely gotten themselves into multiple messy situations as a paladin trying to help people and sticking their nose where it shouldn’t be. They messed with some Zhents at a point and definitely wound up being captured for a day or two until they made some promises to the right person (their weakest link) and was able to escape. Probably a few minor scars from that one but nothing noticeable amongst all the others and nothing that keeps them up at night.

They were also definitely almost used as a sacrifice when messing around with some cults in small towns they stopped in trying to help some people out. Not a great idea to go around announcing yourself a paladin of Lathander to the small group of extremely devout cultists willing to kill for their god.

midnight: What keeps your OC up at night? Do they have nightmares? Fears? Anxieties? What do they do in the small hours of the morning when they should be sleeping?

Freyr does not sleep well. Never has. They blame all the taverns they had to sleep in when their mom was still performing as a bard (they have a lot of unresolved issues with their childhood). They definitely kept Freyja up a lot at night with “what do you think squirrels would say if we could talk to them?” (They also definitely asked a Druid this when they found out some people can speak to squirrels) and the wonderful “how do you think you’ll die? I think I’ll be poisoned. Being poisoned sounds pretty cool. Or maybe dying in a duel. That could be cool too.” (I feel like this answers the question of how in the world did they even bond with Astarion? Answer is Astarion asked them whose blood they’d drink and Freyr went “I’ve already thought about this. Here’s my essay). But that’s kind of the silly stuff. It grows from random kid worries and late night thoughts to constant stress. When they still lived at home they would toss and turn all night in case they heard one of their little siblings awake and they needed anything. When they left home and started traveling as a paladin they tossed and turned because they had taken on the responsibility of a protector in face of a threat. They get nightmares too but they’re almost always nonsensical things they can’t remember when they wake up (and they always apologize profusely to Astarion and Halsin when they wake them up and almost never elaborate, simply borderline hyperventilating next to them and pretending it never happened). When they’re up at night alone or trying not to wake anyone else up they fidget, otherwise they ramble, sometimes they recite nursery rhymes or hum the songs their mom always performed

Tavs & Durges

I have many! @wilde-rpg-gaming asked who else we had so here is all of them and a brief blurb. Cw: preamnesia Kel (durge) set one other OC’s face on fire and spent several years tormenting and brainwashing another v.v just durge things. They are doing better now though!

Kelandrin is my main durge. He is objectively terrible. Did all the things pre-amnesia durge did. Has room for only one thing in his life and it is zealous love. When he lost his memory he placed his weird worship love complex thing on Astarion, a relationship he initially started because Astarion is literally a walking corpse… he was originally an embrace durge but that was before they updated the endings so I will change it probably when I replay. He did let Astarion ascend though because he is incapable of questioning the object of his loyalty.

Atlas was my first tav and a Wyll smoocher! He was a full time adventuring ilmatari paladin pre-game. He is very sweet and a firm believer in doing the right thing. His og team consisted of Xyrra, Vald, and Kalan (who he had a brief situationship with)

Xyrra is a cleric of Selune lythari elf. Lythari are wolf shapeshifters. Obviously she is a Shadowheart kisser. She was the straight man of her adventuring party and suffered from rbf. She has a high opinion of Atlas but a pretty low opinion of the other two

Vald is a “lolth-sworn” drow warlock bhaalspawn with major mommy issues. He is 1) pact bound to Lexe (Atlas’s bio “father”), 2) descended from Kel (who gave Vald the massive scar on his face), 3) genuinely thinks he wants to serve a drow matron. He has some issues. Lae’zel doms him but doesn’t abuse him like an actual drow matron so it works out :)

Kalan is a helf-elf half-drow they/he terror of a ranger. They left the underdark years ago and have treated their time on the surface like some sort of bender ever since. They very recklessly had a one night stand with Atlas who then proceeded to think they were a couple now. Also he fights with Vald a lot. Kalan had to break his heart v.v he romances Halsin.

Mavrin is my half-elf sorcerer resist durge Galemancer. He has a VERY severe anxiety issue. He anxiety vomits pretty frequently, is jumpy, and utterly disgusted by his past.

Elowen is the daughter of Ariael, one of the paladins who trained Atlas. When Elowen was a girl, she and her father were kidnapped and tortured. She lost her ability to speak after that and withdrew from the world. She ended up favored by the fae, becoming an Oath of Ancient’s Paladin and Archfey Warlock. She is going to romance Wyll!

Lukas Silmerhelve is a single father from Waterdeep. He is a fighter and career soldier who is trying his damndest to get home to his chronically ill daughter, Lexia (a menace). He is romancing Gale.

Natlia is a sorcerer/bard Karlach kisser. Pre-game her adventurer husband was murdered in Baldur’s Gate and the authorities did nothing to push an investigation so she starts the game jaded and depressed.

Elggat is a fallen asimar cleric of Bhaal who is romancing Shadowheart. She was kidnapped and tortured by Kel when she was 14 and kept in a literal hole in the ground for years as he slowly indoctrinated her so she would fall. He was going to kill her in his father’s name but Orin got to his brain and Elggat eventually escaped.

your intensity is fearsome. when you feel hurt you don’t often seek out equal and fair revenge but rather drown them in hysteria and watch them burn. you’re temperamental and your emotions are on display for the world to see. you’re the last one any human would want to upset, because even though death would not directly befall them, doom and chaos would ensue, surrounding their life until their death.

Kel actually keeps his emotions pretty well hidden but he does often violently act on them.
