I’m a Jewish QTIPOC who’s a fan of her work. This is not the first time I’ve been told this supposedly damning fact, and it’s not the first time I’ve been unimpressed by the supposed evidence.

The entire, “Contra does cryptonazi memes,” thing has been consistently overplayed.

Contra is a white gentile and she makes some white girl mistakes from time to time. She takes criticism about it well, when the criticism is rooted in actual facts.

But this line of accusations has been rooted in calling anti-capitalism anti-semitism, which is already a basket of fuckery because Jews and Capitalists are not interchangeable groups no matter what actual nazis would like us to believe about ourselves.

The continuation of these accusations cannot be separated from the fact that she’s a trans woman working in a politically charged field. People hold her to standards they would not and do not hold other anti-capitalist speakers to.

Partly because women are held to higher standards, partly because trans women are held to even higher standards, and partly because it’s impossible to simply write off the body of her work as cancelled when she’s objectively stealing nazis support base out from under them.

Now, you’re also a jewish activist, at least from your blog description, so I understand that you may have been exposed to different information than I have and be relying on my trust in other Jews’ conclusions to guide my own here. But without seeing that evidence for myself, I’m going to continue to stand by what I said.

No fave is unproblematic, but being clumsy while saying, “rich people behave monstrously and unironically do control the lives of the people beneath their thumbs,” is hardly antisemitic conspiracy mongering.
