I love a show that’s not afraid to lay it on thick. Putting all the Bart-Ken and Dirk-Todd scenes smack back to back with all the echoing dialogue and the similar staging is so good and I love that it’s not subtle. I love that they just slap you in the face with these relationships and what they mean to the characters and they don’t want you to miss it so they’re gonna tell you twice.

absolutely love Ken’s arc in season one of dirk gently he is already slightly a criminal and then he just progressively becomes more and more unhinged. he’s giving a sweet pep talk to his (technically) kidnapper about how she can’t give up on murdering because it’s what she’s meant to do and she deserves to keep killing whoever just because. so ive been thinking about this scene from s2

that i absolutely adore a lot

and i think the reason i love it so much is the way vogel's first response without hesitation is to go "son". Like that already shows he thinks of amanda as a motherly figure in his life and thats??? so wholesome from a kid who grew up in an environment where the rowdies are probably the closest to parents he's had in at Least 16 years.

And his reaction to being called her bf also emphasises how ace friendly the show is as a whole?? And no im not saying he's ace/aro but obviously he and the other subjects would understandably not be thinking of sexual stuff most of the time, they didnt get a childhood or a chance to grow up as exposed to our hypersexual culture as a whole?? like bart barely knows what a tv is ffs. and the show reflects this sort of light adult-but-childlike energy in a way that doesnt come off as creepy-borderline-predatory-sexualisation-of-innocence Or kids show.

an example being bart who gets presented as basically half naked or even naked several times but is never objectified or sexualised. And while the show does have mature themes (like the implied orgy/todd and farahs apparent makeout on the search to find dirk) its never made into a Big Deal and the overal childishly bizzare theme of the show as a whole is never forcibly shifted to go over it?

Basically I just find it a burst of fresh air, don't get me wrong shows with sex scenes are fine and most of my favourite shows have one at some point. But as an asexual who's gone through phases of absolute denial and refusal to process my sexuality due to society's insistence that EVERYONE and thing needs to inevitably lead to banging its just very freeing to watch.

TLDR: dirk gently doesn't feel like it was filmed or written by someone who focuses on sex to sell a show and that makes me happy
