Belt of Venus The pink line, or belt, above the dark blue and below the light blue. As the sunlight comes through the atmosphere near twilight, and you have to think of this in terms of a place, not a time, the spectrum of light is scattered by gases in the atmosphere, bending in proportion to its wavelength. There's much more to it, but that's known as Rayleigh scattering. This results in the pinkish wavelengths passing through the atmosphere, over your head, and then being reflected back to you by other particulates. Roughly. Simplistically. Much, much more going on here... The dark blue at the bottom of the sky is basically the shadow cast by the earth itself into (onto?) it's own atmosphere internally! A type of alpenglow. The light blue above is... well, it's just sky, all the normal things that make it blue, though, again, simplified... #sonydschx400v #sonydsc #sonycybershot #SonyCameras #kenaicitydock #kenai #kenaialaska #fogbank #fog #frost #kenairiver #beltofvenus #alpenglow #rayleighscattering #dawn #antitwighlightarch #antitwilight #kenairiverboat #pinksky #earthshadow (at Kenai City Dock) https://www.instagram.com/p/CUVo6SGPZ_b/?utm_medium=tumblr
