Keneō is a figure in Buddhist mythology. Described as a monstrous old man, he sits on the banks of the Sanzu River in the underworld.
When a soul arrives in the underworld, his partner Datsue-ba removes their clothes, and Keneō hangs them on a branch. The worse the soul's sins, the further the branch will bend. Keneō and Datsue-ba will then exact punishment, depending on the soul's deeds.
