Two Three unrelated things in one post to save space on your dashboard:

1. I need to start listening to Welcome to Night Vale again. I don’t even know where I left off...I think it was somewhere near episode 90 (they just released episode 129).

2. I had to report to jail Tuesday before my hearing. I paid $500 bail in order to (a) be able to talk to my parents before the hearing, and (b) to ensure that I would be able to work Tuesday night and not get fired for a no-call no-show. I was unfamiliar with how bail worked...I just knew I was paying $500 for one more night of freedom. What I did NOT know was that the money would be returned to me. That was a nice surprise when I realized that, upon serving my day yesterday and into this morning, I checked my bank account and found that the bail transaction was no longer there, and the $500 was again listed as part of my available balance. I thought I was literally paying $500 for one night of freedom (still worth it to keep my job if that HAD been the case), not just putting up collateral to guarantee that I would show up to court an hour and a half later and again to turn myself in yesterday morning -- collateral that would be returned when I held up my end of the bargain. So hooray for a small bright spot in the sea of stress that has been my life since late February.

3. As long as I’m here, let’s go for number three. I just bought by first Iain M. Banks “Culture” novel after my friend Ian (@enkblogs) -- no relation, as far as I know, posted a link to this article from 2013 about Banks’ work. I’m looking forward to giving the series a try. It was mostly the comparison to Douglas Adams that did it, but the rest of the article also makes a strong argument for the series.
