The last thing she remembered was her husband tenderly kissing her goodbye as she hurriedly left her lavish home.
“Love you, ‘Lisa,” he said cheerfully as he left for his own mission.
“Yeah, yeah, I gotta go, Ben.”
As she left, she cursed herself for being so tardy. She had a reputation to keep up, after all.
All day, everything went as usual. Routine, regular, like clockwork. Meeting after meeting, Double Cross didn’t see anything out of the ordinary.
Then her phone buzzed.
“Excuse me,” she said as she stepped out of the meeting room. She glanced with vague annoyance at her phone.
Liam.
“Hey, kid, what do you need?”
“Mom…”
Something was wrong, she could tell. “Liam, talk to me. What’s wrong?”
“Check the news,” he said, but his usual cocky tone was gone, replaced by a thick, heartbroken voice she didn’t recognize, “he’s gone, Mom.”
The clock stopped. Everything froze. “That’s not funny, Liam Jonah Harris,” she growled, but she heard the shake in her voice.
She hung up in an angry daze, holding her phone in front of her face in disbelief.
There, right at the forefront of her notifications, was the headline.
FAMOUS ACTOR BENJAMIN HARRIS DEAD IN ALLEGED ASSASSINATION; SUSPECT AT LARGE.
The phone slipped out of her hand and hit the ground, forgotten. Of course, the dirt he dug on celebrities was bound to bite back eventually. But it couldn’t be real. It couldn’t be, it couldn’t…
Fin.
sorry 2 hit u up again but since you’ve opened this 4 ocs may I plz have a double cross 🥺❤️ TY!!
Control was a glue that held her together, but as the walls crumbled around her, she couldn’t help wondering at how little she had of it in the end.
to monarch: what do you love the most about thorn? 🥺
Ahhh...*cue the introverted(tm) blushing 😳*
Uhmmm...w-well, she’s just...so. Strong, I guess? If that makes any sense.
...I love her ability to keep her head up. People criticize her a lot more than you realize, you know.
“She’s not strong enough.” “She can’t do this.” “Maybe she had some things coming to her.”
...and they’re wrong. She finally knows that now.
She is a rose...my rose. And she can defend herself because a rose needs its thorns to flourish. And I love her for it.
Them as a child FOR MONARCHHHH
Ohhh good question!! I really should give more Monarch backstory...
So Vanessa Diaz was born in Puerto Rico. Nessa was often pressured to be the perfect daughter. Behind closed doors, she was verbally abused and often belittled despite her achievements. This caused her to become meek and isolated from other kids, unable to make a connection for fear of her family’s disapproval.
When she was maybe 10, Nessa’s father and younger brother disappeared under mysterious circumstances. This caused severe mental stress for her mother, who turned to drinking. It only heightened Nessa’s repressed emotions and it was generally a rocky adolescence. It worsened when she learned she was pansexual.
All in all, Monarch’s circumstances caused her a very unhappy childhood. Lonely, insecure, and uptight, Monarch was looked down upon very often, but too “mature” to make connections with peers.
