Also I forgot to say about nonbenders - YES THEY ARE IMPORTANT as much as I want more air benders, which I do, we frikkin need a plotline that focuses on the importance of non benders and their position in society and why some people don't bend and just any characters like Sokka and Suki and a team like the Kyoshi warriors ESPECIALLY after the first season and the huge consequences that would have had on the non bender population

I totally believed this too! I had thoughts that the nomads eventually became unable to teach control to their kids, so they had to repress it forcefully. Eventually, Aang would meet them and have to coax them to learn bending and overcome their fear and grow into who they were by genetic right. I think it would have been awesome to see the Fire Nation’s legacy overcome that way. Sadly, we get some deus ex nonsense with Bumi. Nonbenders are so important, seriously screw this new storyline.

ughGUGH yesssssss that would have been awesome. bc i have another theory (wow, cracking out the old airbender headcanons tonight guys, blast from 3 years ago) that airbdending is totally chaotic and dangerous and hard to control. which is one of the reasons the nomads chose such a peaceful life, because if you're angry and you lose control of your airbending? you could level a village with one blast, whip up a tornado, create vacuums... the air is everywhere and it's intangible and you could get lost in that freedom.

so yes please give me fire nation kids who have to learn fast to hide their abilities (who maybe use it in their own way, like making their arrows fly faster with vicious accuracy - remember those archers?). give me ex-fire nation kids who have a huge amount of anger about the genocide and years of oppression, who have to fight the urge to lash out and destroy the nation they thought was their home (and yes, Aang helping them oh gosh). give me kids who live their lives in Republic City, looking across to Air Temple Island, desperately wanting to join the nomads but feeling like imposters because despite their heritage their families belong to a different nation. give me renegade air bender kids who use their light feet and secret powers to steal and play pranks and live by their own rules.

ugh give me long term consequences of a tragedy that is still so important and give me plotlines that have hints way back in the first show.

... this got long. but basically heck yes to legacy and genetic right i love it
