Key Quest Supplemental

I also wanted to talk about something interesting I ran into while trying to decipher the number stations!

Note that this in no way has anything to do with the steps I'm taking to find the keys. It was just something that made it possible for me to continue my quest that I wanted to share because it fascinated me. In this post I'm talking about the machines that East-Germany used in real life to transmit number stations.

This is the Gerät 32620 (Device 32620) a machine that has prerecorded words programed into it which you can then program a sequence of numbers or morse code out of. This specific model was actually used during the 1980s by the Ministry of State Security in East-Germany. Sending out messages to agents that were deciphered with one-time pads, which look them up theyre so complex I cant even imagine setting up codes for that and not wasting pages in the pad book. (I also really hope this isn't what I have to do to find some of the keys in the game LMAO) This site talks about the features of the iron lady and briefly the history of some of the, for lack of a better term, voice actresses for them. It also has actual dialogue recorded from them and it sounds like exactly the same voice as in the game which was really exciting for me! For my key quest this meant i was actually gonna be able to decipher the numbers now that I knew what each one sounded like. Previously I had a lot of trouble because i wasn't hearing what i thought was 2, 5, or 9. The numbers all had to be distinct from each other so they are slightly different from how you'd normally say them in speech.

And here's the savior for my transcribing attempts. Because there weren't just numbers in the things they were saying. Trennung had me going for awhile but once I understood it was a space everything clicked and I deciphered it within the hour. My key quest would not be possible without this website so it has my thanks. It also is just fascinating stuff to read for me!! I hope you enjoy it as well
