In a universe where bronze learns about happy meal toys and sends a picture of himself to McDonald’s so he could be one
*Inhales*
I posted this on a privet community server, and Cookie told me that I should post it publicly, so I will. Here ya go, Chat. Have some soup.
Two things personally bugged me while reading and re reading CB.
Why is Silver’s key design so intricate compared to the rest of the keys?
Why is Chase constantly tired?
Number One was something that didn’t hit me in the face until late in March. But the thought was in my head way back in February. I just ignored it, until I couldn’t anymore. With more and more key designs we got, Silver’s kept standing out. It began to bug me, because why is her design so intricate compared to the rest? She has a whole unicorn horn thing going on!
This didn’t feel like a favoritism thing, to me. Bronze, Goldie, Silver, Violet and Buddy all have interesting personalities and character traits that all feel pretty equal. But Silver’s key form has always been an outlier from the others by its design. Bronze and Goldie’s are pretty similar to each other’s. Violet and Buddy’s are pretty spiky, especially Buddy’s. But Silver is so unlike the other’s that we’ve seen so far. Even Patina and the White Key’s designs are similar to Bronze and Goldie’s. Ro’s too, actually.
Silver stands out from the rest due to its unicorn horn shape. The only other key to share something remotely similar so far has been Buddy’s Needle to Stab Someone with, thing (very Sleeping Beauty esc, bro).
Throughout S1, Chase has been seen as tired by multiple people in his life, his mom and Deacon.
He even looks and acts tired a good chunk of the story. In Sick Days, he really didn’t look good. He mostly blames it on a lack of sleep, going to a party, or just doing a lot. But Deacon has been doing a lot of books too, plus with the stress of his parents being on his back, and studying for med school before the end of Plunderland, Deacon has only been seen as tired a few times. Chase, in comparison, has been tired constantly in season one until Prunella showed up. I mostly shrugged it off as him being stressed about his mom and Buddy’s bullying in season one. But no, his mom still thinks her son isn’t okay in season two. She sums it up to worry, which is definitely a possibility, but in the beginning of this entire series, he was mega struggling.
Buddy said that Chase would quit stories a lot in both Beach Boys and Toffee Break. He also said that Chase didn’t have the mental fortitude to collect Narratonin. Chase has voiced that he struggles with books and reading as a whole. Also, after most books, he acts tired too. When he’s in books, he seems mostly fine, but out of em, he seems more tired than before entering. It’s like he needs to recharge or something. The other characters barely act tired, if at all after a book quest. It’s only as the main gang grow in numbers, does the tiredness seem to fade away. With his mom constantly voicing her concerns, I don’t think this fact should be ignored.
In Hiatus, the Sailor Moon inspiration kept hitting me like a truck. But I started seeing the constant inspiration in the main story once I finished Hiatus. And I haven’t been able to unsee it.
For starters, Chase:
Chase and Serena/Usagi are both blondes that have never aced a test in their lives. Yet, they are incredibly wise, clever, and lead their teams in their quest for X, Y, and Z. They are also the reason the other main characters are even a part of the story at all, as they get them involved in their escapades. They both fall in love with a sassy black haired man with a mysterious past, were given said powers via a being/creature with a moon symbol on their body, and they both care about beauty and being kind. They also wear a silver related object that the main villains and their love interest both want to steal from them.
Next, Buddy:
Buddy is a lot like Tuxedo Mask and Luna. Like, look at em. Tuxedo has blue eyes too. Including Luna in some of her art work. Not this one, tho. Tuxedo is the prince of earth. He is associated with roses, has a mysterious past, and swoops in to help Sailor Moon and the other Scouts. But they also save him in tern. Tuxedo, originally, was after the silver object that Sailor Moon had to restore his memories from his past life (hmmmmmmmmm, kinda like how Buddy wants to be human again), but he did eventually stop trying to steal it from her and fell in love.
Luna was actually a more humanoid being before being turned into a cat. She now helps the Scouts and gave them their powers. She has a moon symbol on her forehead, and is of course, a cat with sass. She gave Sailor Moon the silver object in question.
Ex Libris is a lot like The Dark Kingdom in Sailor Moon. They’re behind everything, and are after the silver object. But Ex Libris aren’t as fashionable as they are.
Now, what silver object am I referring to?
The Silver Crystal is the most powerful object in the series. It’s capable of bringing people back from the dead, restoring destroyed cities and worlds, and can heal any wound. And yes, it grants wishes. The catch? It costs Sailor Moon’s life force. It draws from her power, her heart. She can do some amazing feats with it without getting hurt, but if she goes to reanimating the dead levels, she is at risk of dying too. Only Sailor Moon, Chibi Moon, and Queen and Princess Serenity could use this crystal without dying immediately, because it is connected to them. It’s a last resort type of crystal power up. It’s the reason Sailor Moon has her amazing outfits, and magical girl transformations.
It’s a silver and pink crystal that can turn into a flower.
Chase said that Silver is capable of great things. And if my hunch is right, then she definitely can. Even among key standards.
I don’t think she’s draining Chase in purpose. Actually, we don’t know what would happen if Chase uses another key in a book. But Chase keeps losing energy and needs to recharge in a similar fashion to Sailor Moon. The only reason he isn’t any more tired is because of the team he formed. For when The Sailor Scouts team up, the effects on Sailor Moon when using the crystal don’t affect her as much. In fact, she’s able to save worlds.
Chase’s Narratonin collecting skills have been brought up in The Best Laid Plans. Buddy said that he’s probably better than the Booktok Girl Violet picked out. And Violet didn’t refute! That’s huge! We don’t know Chase’s skill set in books. We know he’s good, but the results of it are still somewhat hidden. Since Buddy and Violet were siphoning from him almost immediately, his Narratonin collecting has been hidden pretty well. If Chase is like Sailor Moon like how I’m thinking, then he’s connected to Silver, thus the other keys. Since all the teams are set with Deacon and Bronze, Violet and Buddy, Prunella and Goldie, and Chase with Silver we don’t know how Chase will react if he uses another key.
Chase is connected to the magic of this series, how? That is a current project still in the works. But he’s not like the other characters, not even the keys, I’ll tell ya that!
But back to Silver, unicorn horns are a symbol of divine power, healing, and innocence. Back in ye olden times, unicorn horns were believed to heal and protect those from sickness. From poisons, to gross water, and just existing the unicorn horn was said to heal any ailment and protect those from murder. Chase wanted his mom to survive cancer, and stumbled upon a real life unicorn horn. Now, he’s using the magical properties of the horn to heal her.
Unicorn horn - Wikipedia
It was believed that if you drank water that was purified by a unicorn or with a unicorn horn, it would heal you of sickness. That water would be the safest to drink. Chase has been giving his sick mom purified unicorn water. If the other keys can collect Narratonin, but each have a unique ability or specialty, then what is Silver’s?
Where’s what we know about each key’s specialty:
Buddy can break his keychain, even regular chains. He is more awake than the others when in key form.
Violet is the best at transformation and is the most creative with her outfits.
Ro has more leeway with entering books.
I can’t figure out the others, but with what the symbolism is saying, I think Silver can give Narratonin extra sauce. Her purification can make it extra healing, since her designs is a unicorn horn. That’s one of the first things we see in this series, Chase using the Narratonin that he collected with Silver to heal his mom. That, or it’s just symbolic, lol.
I hope this shorter analysis was informative and interesting. @cookieboojar thought so, lol. Chat later!
They're gossiping 🤭🩷
stargoth and keyblings honest reaction
Okay, so the newest free episode made me think of how in the Little Shadows arc Buddy reflects on his actions and how his decision got them all separated in the first place, and he understood why the villain key had chosen him.
And like, I get it, his decision was ultimately from a place of selfishness and did get Silver cracked. However, on the flip side…
…Ex Libris *did* actually have all the keys together. We don’t know how many of the keys were woken up in that timeframe, but supposedly a lot of them weren’t even aware of what happened and wouldn’t have felt the loneliness from their family being separated. Other than cracking Silver (who can’t even feel pain and, I assume, would’ve been fixed when she was used again), Buddy’s decision didn’t permanently keep them from each other.
Instead, what did it do? It burnt down Ex Libris’s facility and kept them from making wishes for like 100+ years. He basically gave them a giant middle finger AND unknowingly gave the chance for his family to have a way better life. Violet just capitalized on the situation, but even if she hadn’t, Buddy still did quite a bit of damage to EL
You could argue that EL probably would’ve been way stricter with the keys/not let them off their keyrings which, yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised, but still!
Bottom line of this is: I hope we get a moment in the comic where the others are reframing what Buddy did and looking at the positives of it as opposed to as an act of betrayal/villainous act. Obviously not ignoring what he did, but alleviating some of the guilt he feels over his actions. After all, if it wasn’t for him, they never would’ve met the Hollows and had the chance at a better life!
bug time
i think i can post this
i started this six months ago but i only finished it today (i am lazy) if you know: shhhh if you don’t: Silver should be allowed to do whatever she wants and that includes adopting a pet bug. change my mind (you can’t)
featured bug: figeater beetle / green fruit beetle (Cotinis mutabilis)
this version has the lighting but i’m not a fan of how it turned out unfortunately
