kay so while falling down the rabbit hole of kung fu panda updates and videos and clips I came across this video:

And I'm OBSESSED with the idea that when Shifu dies, he reconciles with Tai Lung in the spirit realm. I've never seen this concept explored in fan-made content (though I have seen similar stuff with Tai Lung and Oogway) and come on, fandom. Come on! Somebody please write this! Give them a happy ending!

Have you seen Kung Fu Panda 4? Thoughts on the movie?

Hello! Sorry for the late answer-

Believe it or not, I haven’t yet… unlike for KFP3, where from the day the teaser released until the day the film released I thought of NOTHING else and analyzed every frame of every trailer…

After seeing the leaks of KFP4, I lost faith in its writing so much that I couldn’t bring myself to follow it. As I said in a joking-but-not post about the trailer, “this is my personal 9/11,” because the characters I have adored and spent HOURS writing about were… supposedly nowhere to be found in the fourth film…? And judging by the trailer for KFP4… even the main chat has been “Flanderized,” meaning he has become a parody of himself.

So no, I haven’t been able to bring myself to see it yet. So far, I’ve just been focusing on how much I adore the first three, and living in denial the fourth installment would betray its roots like this…

But I will watch it soon.

Anyone have any spoiler-free opinions on KFP4? Especially people who’ve been in the Pandom with me for so many years now…

Lighting is just as important

Kung Fu Panda easily has to be one of my favorite DreamWorks movies and when I went back to rewatch this movie, there’s something I noticed in the final battle. 

As the title says, the lighting of the scene. 

It’s something I noticed just recently. During the fight between master Shifu and Tai Lung the mood of the fight is dark. No. Literally. I’m not even talking about the message where a father and son are fighting to death practically. I’m talking about the actual lighting of the entire fight between them.

When we first see Shifu waiting to fight, we see this:

Followed by another one where Tai Lung arrived:

The setting is dark and cloudy with a green coloration demonstrating the depth, darkness and tragedy of the battle. It was stormy, lightning striking around and pretty much gloom and desperate.  

But the moment Po arrives, you see this:

All jokes aside the background looks to be like the storm clearing and the sun shining. Kinda like a fresh morning, (perhaps this could be signaling that since Po is the savior it matches the “dawn of a new day” sort of deal). And when Po and Tai Lung fight, the scene is brighter, mostly clear skies with a goofy feel to it.

My guess for the sudden change may have to be because it is to show that this movie is still for children but expressing Po’s carefree nature. And I believe it also makes the battle a lot more unpredictable, because with Shifu and Tai Lung it’s solely hand-to-hand combat making it feel like there’s more at stake. All hits and punches look like they’ll break bones and leave a mark. Whereas the second battle is bright and comedic, while yes there’s some kung fu tossed around, Po uses things around him, like the frying pans and the fireworks. None of the hits look like they “really hurt” the characters, it’s like a classic cartoon.

Despite it’s funny mood it still holds somewhat its seriousness, it’s pretty lighthearted. Especially when compared to the more emotional tragic one with Master Shifu reflecting his regret and Tai's descent to madness. 

Not ashamed of loving this movie still today
