“KAGEHINA kisses for table 5?”
(This can also be hinakage, if that’s more your style)
hi hello can we talk about hinata having stretch marks due to bulking up too fast in brazil and how they would look like lightning against his tan skin
can we talk about how kageyama would run his fingers over them, never seeing them as anything other than proof of his progress and dedication.
KGHN BIG FAMILY AU (circa 2022 lol)
(I don’t remember if I posted this AU here)
(almost three years later, I still miss kagehina)
hinata has the habit of making up silly songs to describe what he’s doing.
doing laundry? a song. sweeping? a song. brushing his teeth? a song. putting away the groceries? you guessed it, a song.
it takes kageyama roughly 7 months of living together for him to stop complaining about the endless soundtrack to their routines. hinata considers it a huge accomplishment to not hear a groan as musical accompaniment to his lyrics.
he’s pretty sure this is as good as it gets song-tolerance-wise.
until one morning he walks into their kitchen, still rubbing the sleep off his eyes, and can’t believe his ears.
kageyama, in his pajamas and hair sleep-mussed, making eggs and softly humming along to his task: “making little eggs, little eggs for my little boyfriend, so we can have a little breakfast”
hinata thinks it might be his favorite song ever.
ten: the number on your back when you step into the court.
nine: the number on his. you stare at it a lot, even if you won’t admit it. sometimes, when he’s standing facing the net and you’re behind him, you imagine tracing the number with your fingers.
eight: letters on his name. you sound them out individually, then all together. they taste familiar and warm like your favorite meal.
seven: days in the week you would spend together if you had it your way.
six: days in the week you actually spend together. it could be worse, you suppose. still, it never feels enough.
five: times you fell asleep with your head on his shoulder and he didn’t move. yes, you counted.
four: days you spent without talking after that fight. you had to double check this one, because it felt like a lot more.
three: years you’ll have playing together. you’re not big on wishing upon stars or praying or anything of the sort, but you do wish sometimes that you had more. more of him, more of you two together.
two: a team. you and him. him and you.
one: when he sets the ball to you before you’re even there, and you send it perfectly across the net. then you look at each other before even landing back on the court, matching grins and feral eyes. in that moment, it doesn’t feel like it’s you and him, two separate entities. you feel like one.
it takes a while for kageyama to be comfortable enough to laugh.
he takes the better part of a year to learn how to smile, and it takes even longer for the gesture to come naturally.
and unlike smiling, he doesn’t actively try to learn how to laugh. he knows how to laugh, he just wasn’t ever relaxed enough to let himself do it.
hinata watches the whole process with an almost scientific curiosity.
it starts slow, almost imperceptible: a quiet snort paired with a slight curling of his lips when someone says something particularly funny or extremely dumb. hinata isn’t even sure if kageyama himself notices he’s doing it.
it evolves into something just as contained, but more obvious: a chuckle with a full smile and sound. when hinata hears it the first time, he whips his neck so fast to look at him he almost makes himself pass out.
then it reaches what hinata assumes to be its final form: the sound and the smile forming what can be considered laughter without a doubt. hinata beams when he hears it for the first time.
and then one day they’re walking home together after practice, ground slippery from the unrelenting snowfall, and hinata is going on and on about how kageyama needs to watch out because he’s definitely the clumsier of the two, when he has his point completely undermined by slipping and falling on his ass.
kageyama looks at him for a couple of seconds, eyes wide in surprise. then he starts to laugh. but not just a laugh, a laugh, something that makes hinata stop his process of getting up and stare.
it’s a curling-forward-eyes-closed-breath- hitching kind of laugh and hinata can’t help but start to laugh too, even if he’s still sitting down in a puddle of ice cold water. he doesn’t even mind if it’s what got kageyama to laugh like that.
he keeps his eyes and ears open after that night, always waiting after a joke to see if that laugh will happen again. it doesn’t after tanaka chokes on wasabi; doesn’t after tsukishima gets a ball to the head; doesn’t after ennoshita falls asleep during warm ups.
it does happen when hinata falls from the rainbow road after being in first place through most of it; does when hinata shows him his best daichi impression; does when hinata gets scolded by natsu for being a messy eater.
kageyama laughs more and more, but that laugh never makes its public debut. hinata doesn’t mind it at all, not when he still gets to hear it. and he can’t explain the warm feeling he gets when he thinks about how that sound, that sight is just for him, but it makes him want to laugh too.
hinata and kageyama laugh a lot together.
hinata asks kageyama one quiet morning, do you believe in soulmates? hinata doesn’t see this because he’s lying on kageyama’s chest, but kageyama looks at him for a long time before answering in a whisper, sometimes.
the fact that the 2024 olympics are in paris, famously the most romantic city in the world. i can just imagine hinata seeing it as the perfect opportunity to propose.
he asks bokuto for advice (who everyone agrees that is a pro at the husband game) and he has everything planned: they’ll go out for dinner somewhere fancy and very french, they’ll go for a walk and then he’ll get down on one knee and everything, in front the eiffel tower under the stars like something out of a movie. he rehearses the speech in the shower and under his breath when he cooks, and he can’t wait to see the look on kageyama’s face. hinata is a man with a plan. he isn’t great with secrets, but he just has to make it until after the closing ceremony. it’s going to be perfect.
and then, against all odds, japan wins the semi final against brazil. no one expected the team to get that far, let alone make it to the final at all. when the whistle sounds, it’s a jumble of arms and legs in a group hug and shouts from the players and the fans and it’s everything hinata thought it would be. when he thinks it can’t get any better than this, kageyama pulls him into a hug, with a grin so wide hinata feels it in his chest. for a moment, the world narrows down to this: kageyama’s arms around him, the roar of the crowd, the thumping of their hearts in synchrony as if their bodies have forgotten for a moment how to be two separate people instead of one.
and because they’re so close hinata feels more than he hears kageyama murmuring into his hair marry me. hinata looks up, half in shock and half in pure disbelief, and sees only this: blue eyes looking at him with such adoration it takes his breath away. his body finds strength from god knows where to jump and wrap his legs around kageyama’s waist, and while he peppers his face with dozens of tiny little kisses and whispered yes’s, he remembers: the plan. you idiot, he says to kageyama, but he’s not really angry at all. and he secretly adds another win to kageyama in their tally, because hinata can’t imagine a better proposal than this.
it’s not the eiffel tower, the stars and fancy suits. it’s a volleyball net, gymnasium lights and sweaty jerseys and perfect beyond hinata’s wildest dreams.
