K: “Stop fidgeting,” August’s boyfriend warned. Boyfriend, he thought. Kiaan was now his boyfriend, and the whole world knew. His smile still made the butterflies jump on Gus’ stomach, and what a nice feeling it was. “I know you’re nervous, but seriously, you got this. And I’ll be by your side the whole time.”
G: “I know you will. But I can’t help it.”
K: “I wish I could say I understand.”
G: “And I’m so glad you can’t. Anyway, distract me.”
K: “The new bed arrived yesterday. Mom was finally able to sleep through the night. She got up to make breakfast for the first time in months. That’s thanks to you.”
G: “I didn’t do anything,” he threw his hands in the air. “You bought that with your own money.”
K: “That I earned thanks to the job you got me,” he commented with a smile.
G: “All I did was put you in touch with my sister, and she was impressed. I didn’t ask her to give you the job. She decided on her own. You did it yourself,” he assured him.
K: “I don’t think I ever would have gotten an interview without your interference though. But I’m not complaining. I’m grateful. I make almost twice as much as before and it’s only one job, not to mention the benefits. It may even cover all my mom’s meds. I’m still waiting for the other shoe to drop,” he joked lightly.
G: “There isn’t, I swear. Look, after all we’ve been through, I think we earned the right to a little nepotism, don’t you think?”
K: “Absolutely.”
