ok Vivienne and kid Inquisitor, but what KIND of kid would it result in, having the benefit of having vivienne? vivienne who KNOWS what it's like but had to do it all by herself, so now she has the chance to either make a copy of herself or a child who didn't have to struggle as much. will the child appear spoiled in h3r eyes if they never had to see or feel the horrors of the world - because she protected them from it? Will she resent herself for that, or will she hate it even more if her guidance turns the kid into something ruthless - something that will make her think "am i like this? is this what i am?"

i think vivienne taking responsibility over a kid inquisitor leads to so many different fascinating possibilities of how that dynamic could play out and how vivienne reflects her own personal experiences onto them, but honestly i don't think she'd consider them to be spoiled. i don't think she'd try to keep the reality of the situation from them at all! there is just no way for vivienne to completely shelter them from violence, from scrunity, from injury, from the act of killing, from leadership– imho there just isn't space for it. this is their reality now. if she attempted to shelter them from it and left them ignorant of the true danger they are in, she's hurting them, not helping. there would definitely be others in the inquisiton who believe otherwise i think, but to vivienne? ignorance is danger. and it is not a danger she would leave them vulnerable to.

on the other hand, i think it's fully possible for a kid under vivienne's guidence to become just as ruthless as she herself is. especially if that kid ends up seeing vivienne as being a primary mentor, of sorts. considering vivienne's own ruthlessness comes from a place of survival, i don't think she'd even see it as a bad thing. this is a child forced into completely unfair circumstances and is facing violence daily. they've been shoved into a limelight they were completely unprepared for. hundreds of people call for the death of the herald, the heretic, the thief of the anchor. vivienne imo would think it's good that they are ruthless. they need that fierceness. they need to be ready. if it kept her alive, then it will keep them alive, too.

Been thinking about Kidquisitor stuff, specifically tho a Teenquisitor who’s just old and tall enough to pass as an adult, and just him going along with what everyone’s saying and asking too avoid getting executed, because you know, living is nice, love to keep doing it.

And they keep talking like you should know what they’re talking about, but you don’t, you aren’t even supposed to be here, you just got seen starting a fire by some mages who dragged you of with them saying something about “we’re already late enough to the chantry. What are you doing?”

You decide bringing this up would not help your case, and so just nod and say you’ll help fix the explosion (even tho you’re pretty sure that’s not how explosions work. Do lowlanders know that’s not how explosions work? Should someone tell them??)

But then to your horror, “help me fix the explosion” very quickly escalates into “you’re the Herald of Andraste, which means you’re basically Andraste, which means you’re basically speaking for the Maker.”

And at this point you’re in too dip to just say Nuh uh, and run off into the woods (Cassandra will run after you, and she’s way faster than you are, and thats scary.)

So I guess we live here now, which I mean Haven’s not too bad if you ignore all the praying, and minimise the amount of time spent with the Divine Mothers who want to talk to you, lest they realise you do NOT know Andraste’s deal beyond “she’s probably sleeping with the Maker?? Right???”

(And desperately hope you don’t slip up and mention any other gods, because they’re so weird about that, like no wonder their Maker left, he’d probably lonely as fuck.)

But it’s fine, you’re fine, just gotta keep closing the rifts and eventually you can slip away, and it’ll be fineeee.

And then they take you to a city of gold, and false faces to talk to even MORE Clerics, who immediately start yelling at you, because this is your life now apparently.

Fortunately, the gods have heard your prayers, because the next thing you know the loudest lady currently mad at you is struck down by divine retribution; A sliver of Envy, cut and carved into another’s shape. Not typically one of the gods to be prayed too, but beggars can’t be choosers, you suppose.

But then he starts yelling about Andraste too, and runs off with the Templars Cullen said you were supposed to get, meaning that there’s probably going to be more yelling about things that don’t make any sense, but that they all keep saying confidently, like they’re real words, that you should know.

But before you can go back to Haven (not home, too empty, the air feels wrong and lacks the guiding whispers of the past) you’re stopped by some other lady, who luckily doesn’t look mad at you, but is dressed like those weirdos who kidnapped you, so… mixed signals.

She asks you to come to some other place to talk to her about magic. You ask why you can’t just talk now? She gives an unsatisfying answer and walks away.

You decide this was a bad day, and nod every 10 second for the following meeting, where you’re supposed to decide who to go ask for help from.

The god who punched that lady who was yelling at you, or the confusing elf lady you honestly stopped listening too.

You’re thankful for an easy choice for once, and go sleep for 32 hours.

How would the companions react to a young inquisitor eating something they’re allergic to?

Cassandra: “Inquisitor, no!” Cassandra blurts out, unable to stop herself. The Inquisitor blinked slowly, giving Cassandra a chance to grab the piece of food and throw it across the courtyard. She had walked up just in time!

Varric: Varric raises a brow and keeps a sharp eye on the Inquisitor. He hovers around until he is sure they aren’t having a serious allergic reaction. Once he’s sure they are okay, he lets Josephine know what happened. You know, just in case.

Iron Bull: Bull lifts the Inquisitor up onto his shoulder with one hand, plucking the piece of food out their mouth with the other. “Now Boss don’t give me that look. You don’t want to get the shits again, do you?”

Vivienne: Vivienne frowns. “My dear child, you must cease eating that immediately! Last time you were covered in hives for weeks.” The poor Inquisitor had looked dreadful those few weeks. No one wanted a repeat of that.

Blackwall: Blackwall sighs in exasperation as he watches the Inquisitor shove the piece of food in his mouth. He might as well get a head start and go bring them to the healers. They’ll need them soon enough.

Solas: Solas doesn’t panic when he sees the Inquisitor eating something they shouldn’t. Instead, he simply prepares his magic so he can heal whatever ailments may crop up.

Sera: “Hey Inky drop that!” Sera shouts from across the courtyard. She is tempted to shoot it out of the Inquisitor’s hand with an arrow but decides against it in the end. Even if it would be frickin awesome.

Cole: “I don’t think you should eat that,” Cole mutters, floating around the Inquisitor nervously. He sticks around, ready to get help if need be.

Dorian: “Inquisitor, you are going to make me go prematurely grey if you keep that up,” Dorian says with a sigh. He picks up the Inquisitor, deciding to keep an eye on them for the next few hours. One can never be sure with allergies.

Chapter 21 of Curiouser and Curiouser is up! 

Summary: Cat and her party reach the Storm Coast, encountering the Chargers, Bull, and dealing with the Blades of Hessarian. Emotions run high, challenges are met, some people clash. 

Chapter excerpt: 

It hadn’t stopped raining since they arrived here. There was a constant misting, if not a full-on storm every day. The scouts were getting used to damp clothing and cloudy skies, constant puddles in the tents and dark nights with only a rare star visible in the sky.  

The terrain was rocky and wet, a precarious combination for even the fleet footed. One of her scouts was laid up with a twisted ankle. And that didn’t even account for the bandits that seemed to appear out of thin air, their clothing better suited to the environ and with a better grasp of the terrain.

Progress in their search for any Grey Wardens was frustratingly slow, almost a nonstarter. Any time they moved down the coast, they met resistance, fighting for an inch. They had to find a way to deal with the bandits.

“Harding! Herald’s party was spotted, be here in a few minutes.”

Maker, they should have known hours before, sent some scouts as an escort. Harding studied the map, what little progress they’ve made, rubbing her temple. Blast it. Shaking her head, she exited the tent, straightening, refocusing. She saw the horns first, the tall warrior who was one of the Herald’s guard. Harding stepped forward, meeting the party in the middle of their camp.

“Your Worship! For what it’s worth, welcome to the Storm Coast.”

Kid!Inquisitor Ft. Solas

Kid!Inquisitor Ft. Solas: What If the Inquisitor was a child, a toddler to be exact? Here’s a short take on how the roles of everyone would shift tremendously due to the Inquisitor’s age (focusing more so on a child’s needs). Children are completely dependent and need emotional and physical reassurance; Having a child cry because their guardian isn’t there is heartbreaking to witness and nothing can replace that bond in that precise moment.

Something I thought about with my experience with children and then later wrote at 1-2am. Please excuse any mistakes.

Solas stood at his desk relishing a new book he’d specially ordered at the Inquisition’s expenses. His finger trailed down the page as his eyes followed. He heard a sniffle and looked to see the Inquisitor, tears streaming down his face as he walked towards the elven man.

Solas’ mouth fell slightly agape, he looked helplessly right and left and finally up at the balcony towards unseen voices.

Hands held tight and tugged onto his tunic. Solas looked down to see the boy still crying, “Daddy!” he whimpered for someone who would never come. Completely taken aback but acting on impulse Solas picked up the small child and just held him in his arms close to his chest. The same word, “Daddy.” was repeated over and over again with small sobs.

Solas felt his heart drop.

It was his fault; the explosion at the conclave, the anchor attaching to a child. Most horrifically, this child, a lone survivor, was parentless and it was entirely Solas’ fault.

He was not accustomed to calming a child, he tried anything that came to mind. Awkwardly his hand would rub circles on the boy’s back and he would whisper, “It’s ok.” Over and over again. Was it though? Was it really ok? Would it ever be ok? How could Andraste’s Chosen, the Inquisitor, be a two year old boy?

Hours turned into days, days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. Solas was getting the knack for this.

The Inquisitor, whom Solas realised didn’t comprehend adult social etiquette and now saw himself the ridiculousness of it, now referred to him as Nicholas. Every day Nicholas was swept away by overworked adults. What could they do, expect a two year old to map out a safe route through the Hinterlands? Chose the next ruler of Orlais?

However, Nicholas was unfortunately never left to just be Nicholas. The matter of the anchor made sure of that. Everyone’s job became harder; Cassandra was left to do all things the Inquisitor should be doing. Josephine was running the political show. Cullen worked the soldiers and Inquisitor’s army and allies. Leliana worked in the shadows tying loose ends and silencing the opposition. The worst thing was, was that they were all at each other’s throats.

Solas was unique, he offered much of his knowledge, time and even physical self when needed to the cause of the Inquisition. Out of everyone he had the most time to spare. Which ended with him looking after the Inquisitor most days.

It was odd at first, still can be, to have a little person following you around so closely, asking questions and wanted to be entertained. This always lead to more time being spent outside of the Rotunda. Children are not accustomed to staying in a single area at length.

The hardest to get used to was the emotional bond the boy had with him; the irrational closeness and personal-space-invading. Solas never dreamt of the clinginess of another being wanting to sleep in the same room as him to the point of all-out wailing of tantrum proportions.

Actions are easy to be adjusted and accept into everyday life, words are often too easily able to catch you off guard and shift your reality. Solas remembered it so clearly, that day in the Rotunda where the long day had come to rest. Nicholas had walked over to Solas a picture scribbled on paper in hand, raising his arms for Solas to pick him up and said, “Daddy.”

Kid inquisitor old sketches

I have too many little headcanons about a kid inquisitor. There is a saying; "kids can get away with things that grown-ups don't."- which is mostly because children haven't yet learned the rules of what's social "okay" and not okay. This either means they can behave like little twits, or you can get some really beautiful and genuine responses.

- in my head, after the little inky finds out that Dorian's dad tried to change him, she hugs him and tells him it's all going to be okay, because they're family now.
