during their messy in denial pining era wanted to put these portraits in a post together. ilya. shane.
my pre-columbian miis and the art they were based on
the way rr/tierney introduce ilya is so funny to me because when you first see him you're just like jeez this guy is such an asshole why is he like this. and then seconds later it's just like um it's because he has a 1) dead mom 2) who killed herself 3) an abusive dad 4) with alzheimers 5) a brother 6) who verbally abuses him on the phone 7) when ilya refuses to wire him 50 bands all at once 8) all while he spends new years eve all alone in the grossest motel you've ever seen 9) and he's bisexual.
and you're just like. well shit. that will do it i guess.
and then with shane it's just like. oh this guy's life is perfect. i wonder what's wrong with him. and then the very next second it's like does shane think a suit and tie is necessary for all sex??? or just gay sex???
and if i said nolan's odyssey starring no greek actors and with no recognizable aspects of greek culture or involvement by greeks, is the direct legacy of white supremacist colonialism that treated ancient greece as not just the pinnacle of ancient culture, but of an artificially created "european" culture, which white western europeans and their settler descendants, as the new pinnacle of culture, were the sole spiritual inheritors of.
^^^ PEOPLE ARE STILL THERE. There's a metro station across the street from the colosseum where i found a hair in my pizza slice. We drove by ruins of an amphitheater next to a motorway in greece once. It's literally just real places where real people live and have lived. It's not mythical perfect lands that once existed. I went to Itacha in 2023 and there was not enough parking space.
Whenever they gave us one of those "read through ALL the instructions before you begin!" trick assignments in school where the steps lead you on an increasingly ridiculous goose chase until the final one tells you to just put your name on the paper and turn it in without doing anything else, I was always like, "Okay, but what's the point? Surely the REAL world won't be anything like this." And then I grew up and discovered that not only is the real world often exactly like that, some people won't even read the first line of the instructions even if they make perfect sense. And these people are called "co-workers"
tng is so funny because picard has this random god whose for some reason obsessed with him not romantically not platonically not sexually but in a secret fourth way that is also all three at once and this god is like kind of an asshole and all the other gods hate him and also think he's an asshole. and everybody still has no idea why he's obsessed with this middle-aged french man but he likes putting him in situations and showing up in his bed. also he steals picard's girlfriend
Fairy Feller’s Master Stroke by Queen and the painting by Richard Dadd it describes
I’ve definitely ranted about this before but it is so fucking lame that the norm in historical settings and even mythological settings is to make the main character a skeptic of religion. It’s never done in a ‘what did atheism or religious doubt look like in this historical setting’ way. It’s usually a very modern superiority complex thing. But I think it feels like a cowardly writing choice to take out religious belief. Even from stories where divine interactions are crucial.
trying to impress a grinch girl by pretending i hate christmas and presents
trying to make it work with a grinch girl but i'm unsatisfied because i have a christmas fetish
Nolan’s Odyssey thoughts. I brought in a notebook and filled 9.5 pages of scribbled thoughts throughout the three hours I was suffering. I hated this movie and I really tried to go into it with an open mind as much as possible and damn it really sucks. This movie really put the no in nostos.
(obviously spoilers ahead)
I feel like you might have talked about it before, but I really like your blog header!
Thank you ☺️ it’s from my brief acrylic painting phase
are you gonna pick those penne noodles out of the boiling water one by one like a man, or are you gonna use a strainer like some kind of democrat?
Starting another crochet project bc while I’m almost done with the star blanket it’s very repetitive and long and I can do it in the dark watching tv and I really wanted something mentally stimulating and with short rows. And I’ve been getting into filet crochet lately and I wanted something I can put in my office at work as decor. This is where I got this chart from (page 14). There are LOTS of cool vintage charts for filet crochet online. antiquepatternlibrary.org is a great resource list for vintage fiber arts resources and many other art forms.
About 1/3 of the way there.
Only 10 more rows! I’m aiming to finish it this weekend and then block it etc
I will say that now that I’m out of school language learning for fun has come back in a big way for me.
