When I have kids, im quite fond of the names Willow and RJ. I also want to move to Finland.

Willow is relatively easy for native Finnish speakers to pronounce, and it would come out as something like Villou, and that already has options for nicknames like Vi and Paju (Paju being the Finnish word for Willow).

RJ though… It would be short for Robert James. The Finnish equivalent to Robert is Roope. James is also translated as Jaakko, but that one’s less important to this post. Roope is an occupational name derived from. Well. Rope.

Apparently in Finnish, I would be naming my kids Tree and Rope 💀

You know what's crazy to think about as a writer? Names. Fucking names, man. Out in the world, you can name someone anything. There's no force dictating that they act in a dramatically "fitting" way because of their name.

Extreme example? River Phoenix. Those parents just fucking named the kid! If I wrote a story about a talented young artist known for a largely calm exterior who died young before fully realizing their potential and I named him "Phoenix"? Heavy handed, people would RIGHTLY complain that I was being a bit pushy with the symbolism.
