a Kidge Soulmates 5+1 fic.

Excerpt:

 Keith never cared for the idea of soulmates. He remembered how his father would longingly trace the words marked on his skin, how there was a void that he grew up with, how the topic of soulmates always meant mourning for someone he had never known.

 A part of him dreaded his eighteenth birthday, when those words would coalesce from nothingness.

 But then his father died. He met Shiro. He lost Shiro. He found Shiro. He found Voltron. He found family again. He found his mother. And then he spent what felt like years on his journey to the quantum abyss with Krolia. It gave him hope for the future.

 He was lucky to spot the markings along his left wrist before anyone else spotted it. They had enough to worry about. Despite little time having passed for the others, he’d aged enough to have his words. Some days, he’d stare at the sentence and let his heart plummet from the uncertainty of a war. Others, he’d read the words and let his heart flutter with hope.

The war is over, the Paladins are returning to Earth after a multi-galaxy tour to spread the word of their victory over the Galra Empire, and two Paladins are still in denial of their feelings. Not for the other, but that it may be reciprocated. A catalogue of miscommunication leads the garrison to believe Keith and Pidge are already a couple, putting them in an awkward position. Meanwhile, the Garrison have assigned each Paladin an envoy to aid them any way they can, enter Liliana Cooper, a shy girl who catches the eye of a certain Paladin.

Voltron Hair Dye (part 2)

This is a continuation on my previous post for this fic! Go in the tags to find the previous part since I don’t know how to link things ... 

Description: Pidge finds comfort in science and silence, but Keith finds comfort in making sure that his girlfriend gets the correct amount of hours of sleep she needs to be a functioning human being. When he finds her pulling another all-nighter, he's willing to do anything to get her to go to sleep, even if that means planning a date to the space mall with all of team Voltron.

Pidge wasn't the type of person to like shopping. At least, that's what she thought of about herself. She clearly wasn't in the right mind when she and Lance were knee deep in a fountain fishing around for coins to buy a video game. Thank god Lance was just as bad as she was, or he might never let her live that down. But no, Pidge did not enjoy shopping, as she stated everytime Allura asked her.

Something about the whole thing, shopping, seemed so wrong. Shopping was something Katie had loved. Shopping meant walking around for hours, laughing, and taking pictures with whoever you were with. Shopping meant spending money that your parents lent you, and forgetting about the pressure of school. Pidge didn't have the luxury of that anymore. She might say that she simply outgrew it. Whatever the shift, Pidge felt out of place in a mall.

However, not only did Pidge feel out of place in a mall, she also happened to look quite out of place in one too. Holding Keith's hand, who was also holding Shiro's hand. With Lance trailing after Allura, who was trying to make conversation with Shiro. Hunk was already missing in action, presumably in the food court.

Okay, so maybe it was all of team voltron that looked out of place.

Keith had somehow convinced Shiro that he should buy some hair dye, claiming it would help him feel better. Allegedly, Shiro simply agreed and asked Coran to put it on the schedule before they reached earth. Pidge suspected there was some more bribery involved. Lance swore up and down to the rest of the team that he heard Keith promising the Black lion to Shiro for an entire week. Not that it really mattered. They were able to reach a space mall, and take Allura this time, much to Coran's disdain. While he was babysitting the lions, Keith and Shiro were supposed to grab their hair dye. It was easy, just a quick deal.

The plan seemed to be taking longer than planned. Much longer.

After they walked around for about 25 dobashes Pidge was just about ready to sit down and let her small poor legs rest, when Keith pointed at a store seemingly smaller than the rest. Given its size, how he spotted it is a mystery. Pidge theroised Galra vision. She also theorized that Keith would have a fit if he ever found out she has theories and hyposeithis for that stuff.

Keith lead both Shiro and Pidge into the small hair shop, almost ignoring Lance when he says he's going to take Allura to go find something 'sparkly'. Shiro rolled his eyes, but doesn't stop him. A smart move on his part, really, Lance can almost never be stopped.

Pidge was confused when Keith suggested they head to a space mall. Not only did both of them have an interesting enough time the first time they went, Pidge was sure that Keith had enough hair dye to last him for a while. How he hoarded that much black dye on the ship was beyond her. He seemed to constantly be carrying some around in a pocket, either jacket or pants. He really should have known she'd find it sometime or another, given the fact that she likes to steal his jacket all the time. It was just so cosy when she needed it to be, hair dye and all.

But no, he claimed to have used all his hair dye while he was off in space for years, apparently. Not that Pidge had time to fully comprehend any of that. He promised to talk to her about it when they had a free moment. So far, the only free moments they had was at three am. Just her luck. She should have known Keith would take her suggestion to the limit. It was so secret that he loved his hair dye. Pidge made a mental note to update her powerpoint presentation on why hiding your true hair color isn't always needed. Who else was going to stop Matt from dying his hair bright red in middle school? But honestly, she thought that Keith didn't need to hide his purple hair. It was a part of him, and Pidge was sure it was adorable as heck too.

Pidge was jerked out of her thoughts as she felt a sharp tug from her right hand. Her eyes widened and she almost slipped straight into a display of odd looking space brushes that she had been heading for. Keith almost grinned with amusement and Pidge gave an apologetic smile in return. Keith then let go of their hands and turned to face both of them.

"Okay, here's the plan everybody," Keith started, rubbing his hands together excitedly. "I'm going to grab the blackest of the black hair dyes they've got for me. Pidge help Shiro find something a little less extreme, cause he's already got white hair. Something that has an off-brand™ name like Midnight or whatever. I don't want to kill your hair." Shiro nodded and Pidge gave Keith the thumbs up.

Shiro turned around and walked with Pidge through the tiny store that had enough displays to keep the duo occupied for weeks. It took a while to come across the all hair dye section, but they found it. Before them, was an expansive rainbow that lead all the way from pink and red to purple and black, with everything in between. Shiro actually gasped, earning Pidge a glare when she was caught trying to hide her laugh.

"It's not a sunset, Shiro," Pidge said, in between her laughing fits she tried to disguise as coughing. Shiro huffed at the phrase, something Lance said often when others got excited, and simply turned back to the display. He reached out his one hand to point and distinguish between the variety of different dark colors.

"It's pretty darn close, Pidge," he almost chuckled, pointing at the ones he was interested in, and clearly talking through something in his head.

Pidge walked along to the brighter colors, eyeing up the green colors. She had never dyed her hair before, or even really considered it. Katie had really prized her hair, it was something that she truly loved about herself. In grade school, she never could have brought herself to change her hair in any way.

The range that the brand had of the green was just enough to keep you second guessing yourself, but small enough that it wasn't overwhelming. Pidge stared intensely at one green, feeling a sense of recognition within. She reached it and grabbed the bottle of pure beautiful green, just to see at the bottom in bold white letters: AS SEEN ON VOLTRON - PALADIN PIDGE™️!

She exhaled something between a laugh and bewilderment, turning to Shiro, to show him the bottle as she breathed funnily. Her mouth made a funny noise, as she saw him, nose almost pressed to bottle to read the label. Pidge guessed maybe his hair wasn't his only grandpa like feature now.

"Striking Shiro?" He questioned out loud, before turning to Pidge. He smiled and laughed a little as he saw her holding the same bottle, both of them just staring at each other in complete shock, mixed heavily with ridiculousness.

They met Keith at the cashier.

Keith, was not a light shopper... to put it lightly. When he considered buying for stocking, he didn't just buy a few bottles. No. Keith had always been taught go big or go home. Shiro now regretted the old saying he used. Pidge regretted doing this at all.

There he was in all his glory, eight or nine bottles of jumbo sized Pure Black Swirl (Extra Strength)™️ and a happy little smile on his face. Pidge kept her mouth shut and her eyes rolling as she put down her one bottle of Paladin Pidge™️ and Shiro's two bottles of Striking Shiro™️. (After looking at the other colors, Pidge found the Killer Keith™️...after being not sure if it meant he had killer outfits or he was keen on murdering people, she decided not to pick it out. Some gems are better left untouched.)

All three of them were relieved to leave the small store, bags weighing them down, after 30 dobashes of complete nonsense. Although getting yelled at by Coran when they returned... was almost enough motivation to stay a little longer.

Summary:  An emergency mission to answer a distress call wasn’t unusual. The urgency in Allura’s voice wasn’t necessarily unusual, either—she was very much of the mind that Voltron was obligated to answer every single distress call brought to their attention. Being the defender of the known universe came with a certain number of responsibilities, after all.

But seeing the pinched, pale look on both Allura and Coran’s faces when they converged on the bridge was unusual. "The universe is vast even in terms of those planets still yet beyond the grips of the Galra. But…. the distress call came from the Terra Firma Quadrant.”

Earth.

Comments:  Back to Earth AU. Reunion fic. This one occasionally flips pov to some characters on Earth so we get to see their reactions to the gang’s initial disappearance and then the realization that they are not alone in the universe. This fic is so different from the other Back To Earth ones I've read, all the little details make it feel so real. A song that I feel sets the mood for this fic is Home and It Goes On.

Summary:  Keith’s shirt falls to the floor and Shiro gets so distracted by the ink on his skin that when he finally realizes Keith was trying to flip him, he’s already on his back. With the mismatched ‘Never tell me the odds’ pressed against his throat, Shiro thinks he could fall in love like this.

Comments:  Part 1 of the series blame it on the stardust which is partway through its second installment just pretending to know. This is a Sheith fic featuring tattooed!Keith. Also, my favorite part is the OG GARRISON TRIO AKA Matt/Shiro/Keith bonding bc they are my favorite friendship group ugh. Also Keith’s adoptive parents are super awesome like seriously I love them so much. This one ends with the start of season one basically, and Part 2 kinda picks up from there.

Summary:  “Not—not that you’d be my rebound! I mean, you’d be helping me take my mind off of this guy, but to be a rebound, I’d have to have dated him first, I think, and he doesn’t even know I like him, so. You wouldn’t be a rebound. At worst, we become badass partners-in-crime with a grudging respect for each other, at best, we’re soulmates for life and this is fate trying to help us find happiness. So. Um.” Lance swallows and looks up at the Blade of Marmora soldier through his lashes. “What say you?”

They look down at their hands for a moment, fingers twisting together in deep thought. Then they’re pulling their gloves off, revealing pale, half-bruised knuckles of the human variation, and their mask is dissolving, giving way to big blue-purple eyes and an achingly familiar jet-black cowlick. “Who,” says Keith Kogane, in that low-pitched rumble that makes Lance’s stomach roil in the good way—holy fuck—“is this guy you’re trying to get over?”

Comments:  Lots of Lance whump. And obviously this is Klance endgame. I just love how far this goes before Lance finds out its not just some random bom guy. Lance is such a sassy guy when he’s in danger and it really comes out in this fic. Add in a heaping tablespoon of protective Keith and you’ve got yourself the perfect post-s4 voltron fanfic right here.

  Burn Break Crash by NaryCanary

Summary:  When Katie "Pidge" Holt arranged a special road trip with her boyfriend that doesn't go according to plan, she somehow throws herself in an unexpected predicament and now must take responsibility for it. What is it she must do? Take Keith Kogane - an attractive, mysterious, arrogant guy from school - on the road with her across the country.

Growing up, Pidge was always taught to look both ways before crossing the street to avoid accidents. Nobody ever told her what to do if her life happens to go up in flames.

Comments:  Slowburn Kidge roadtrip AU. Background Shallura. This is a college AU that feels very raw to me idk. Like its not just all fluff and comedy, its also angst and comfort and thrilling in all the ways. The way their conversations flow and relationship develops is so natural and un-forced. This fic really made me like Pidge a lot more after reading. Even if you don’t ship it romantically, it really makes you appreciate the fiery, explosive bond between them. Platonic Kidge is also something I started exploring because of how much I loved the interaction with these two.

Summary:  When Keith found himself mentally linked to Lance of all people, he never thought that it would end in anything but irritation and misery on both sides. He certainly never imagined that it would be a useful asset in team Voltron's fight against the Galra Empire. Now if he can just keep his feelings in check, they might actually have a chance at defeating Zarkon.

Needless to say, when he'd wished for a 'bonding moment' with Lance, this wasn't exactly what he'd had in mind.

Comments:  Klance with eventual mature content. Whump for both parties in this fic, and lots of angst. Also super-protective-over-Keith Shiro, which is my fav. A warning that this is very slow burn. I mean look at that word count. It’s amazing tho bc we get so much of this goodness. I love Stuck-Together and Forced Co-Dependency Tropes and this satisfies both. These two are forced to show so much vulnerability to each other and get so much closer as a result.

  **Keith’s ‘Physical Contact’ Initiation Program by alisayamin (sh_04e)

Word count:  26,522 (6/6)

Summary:  Keith didn’t move and neither did Pidge. It was a little awkward until Keith finally said, “Maybe we could officially officiate this..?”

“What do you mean?”

“Fist me.”

Pidge recoiled and sputtered, “Keith, what the f-” She was cut off by Shiro’s bellowing laughter from the observatory deck.

With his straight face unchanged, Keith lowered his left hand with the stopwatch and lifted his right hand, fisted.

Pidge actually sighed with so much relief, “OH. You mean fistbump! Right.” She slapped her forehead to remove the very very wrong image her imagination drew for her, “Holy shit, Keith, we need to work on that but yeah sure, I’d be honoured to officiate your physical contact program whatever.”

Or

That one time Coran realized Keith was too distant and decided to make him undergo the 'Physical Contact' Initiation Program which then led to --> 5 times the paladins realized Keith was an actual cat.

Comments:  I. LOVE. THIS. STORY. ugh. Keith bonding with everyone through hugs and cuddles, man. That is all that needs to be said. Oh and also Keith whump plus lots of comfort. Also Matt&Keith bros and Pidge&Keith bros is life. And super-protective-over-Keith Shiro. LITERALLY EVERYTHING YOU COULD EVER WANT ALL IN ONE GLORIOUS FIC. But seriously in this one, Keith unashamedly knows he wants physical affection, he just struggles with how to ask for it.

Summary:  Based very loosely off of @eyugho’s lovebug AU, which I love more than anything?? Thanks to them for starting this wonderful AU!

Keith's bitten by a lovebug, but this one doesn't make him all cuddly. Instead, every moment he spends away from Lance is physically painful for him, and every moment he spends touching him is really, really nice. That's frustrating enough already without Keith having to hide his massive crush.

Lance just wants to help, but he knows that Keith doesn't like to be touched. Also hiding a massive crush, because these two are horrible at communication.

Comments:  Slowburn Klance with so much Keith whump and comforting and supportive Lance. I really like this version of the Lovebug AU, especially bc it basically doubles as one of those Stuck-Together Tropes, and also they become super co-dependent on each other which is also nice because we get to see all their vulnerabilities and insecurities forced into the spotlight.

Summary:  The blade of Marmora aren't the only ones with time altering technology. Days on the outside can be months within. Keith finds this out a little too late.

Event Horizon: Chapter 1 - Watching As I Fall

“Okay, that could have gone better.”

“There are at least seventeen different ways this could have gone better. Literally, like I am counting them right now, you-”

“Just get out of there!” Shiro interjected, causing Lance and Pidge to abruptly silence their bickering.

“Roger, Green extracting in 15 ticks-” Pidge grunted as a blast knocked against Green before she could settle in the cockpit.  A low growl across her consciousness alerted her to the lion’s displeasure to the attack, as she made her way to her seat. “I’m sorry girl, you got this-”  

A loud roar erupted from Green as her systems shut down.  Pidge held her breath, hoping the systems would restart immediately.   Come on, it’s just a brief interference, come on...

Seconds later Green’s systems came back online, alarms filling the cockpit along with a sudden influx of angry Spanish and English from Lance as Red spun around and fired on the approaching sentries. “Pidge, get ready to bolt!”

‘Do you ever want to, like…’ Keith sat on the kitchen counter, one leg folded up so his foot rested across his knee. His jacket lay crumpled beside him and his t-shirt sleeves were rolled up to the shoulders against the heat of the oven. He toyed with the stitching on his boot. ‘Sort of take a break from yourself?’

Pidge’s fingers stilled on top of her keyboard. She cleared her throat, then ever so slowly continued typing. She spoke without looking at him, as though he were a young deer she might startle away. ‘What do you mean?’

Build-An-Emo

Pidge sticks her tongue out in concentration as she eyes every single small accessory in front of her. It’s almost as it was color-coded, small accessories going from pink earrings to black leather jackets – Pidge definitely grabbed the one with the red stripe in the middle – but there’s still one thing she’s missing to finish her creation.

Build-A-bear apparently is too PG to have knives even in soft plushy material.

She settles down with picking a plushy garden shovel.

The teen purses her lips as she wrestles with her own teddy bear, the small elastic strap on the shovel not fitting the teddy’s wrist, until one of the workers offered their help.

The employee didn’t even dared to ask why on earth Pidge decided to have a red colored teddy with a punk-rock leather jacket, gray cargo pants, black boots and a small garden shovel in its hand.

Pidge doesn’t doubt they have seen weirder shit before.

She thanks them with a smile and then she turns to admire her creation. Pidge smiles softly, passing a hand through the teddy’s head before her smile turns into a mischievous grin.

“I’m Keith and I’m so emo.” Pidge grumbles flatly, snickering under her breath at her own joke. Two seconds later, she’s yelping in surprise when a small toy pillow hits her straight in the face.

“I’m Pidge and I’m so nerdy.” Keith mocks, voice high and squeaky, making Pidge to gasp mockingly at him. The older teen smirks at her, the soft brown colored teddy with a green hoodie and white shorts still in his hands.

Keith narrows his eyes in challenge at his girlfriend, arching an eyebrow at her as he fixes his teddy’s glasses, pulling them up.

“You take that voice back! Teddy Keith, defend my honor!” Pidge exclaims, narrowing her eyes smugly as she holds the teddy bear in her hands up and raises the bear’s arm, where the garden shovel is.

Keith blinks at the unusual accessory.

“Is that a shovel?”

“They didn’t had a knife plushy! Stop judging!”  Pidge laughs, slapping his arm playfully, making her boyfriend to half and raise his hands in surrender, his own teddy still held tight by his right hand.

“Okay, alright! Alright!” He chuckles, pushing the smaller teen away from him by the forehead, “Come on, movie starts in ten minutes, we should hurry up.”

“A bear and a movie? Not too shabby for the first date, Kogane.” Pidge laughs, nuding the teen on the side with a smirk and shaking her head amused when a soft blush covers Keith’s cheeks, “Aw, you’re blushing.”

“Look who is talking,” Keith says, grinning as he pokes one of Pidge’s cheeks with his finger before taking her hand, “Come on, Katie.”

“Comin’, Mr. Emo.”
