“I don’t believe how you believe Mothman couldn’t be real but a Chupacabra could be!”
“Mothman is probably just a close up of an actual moth or someone with a weirdly-shaped glider while a blood-sucking goat eater has been seen multiple times by people at different and even the same times!”
“Alright, enough!” Shiro cuts in, breaking up the fight between Keith and Lance. “We need to focus right now.”
Pidge signs, ignoring the growls of her taller boyfriend as he leans on top of her, resting his chin over her head.
“As we were discussing,” Shiro points down at the map. “Hunk and Lance, you two will go east. Matt and I will head west with Pidge and Keith going North. Allura, Coran and Romelle will stay here with the van in the case of an emergency.”
“When isn’t there an emergency?” Hunk whimpers as Lance smirks.
“Don’t worry, Sharpshooter’s got your back.” Lance confidently states, before Shiro signals them to begin.
As Pidge and Keith search for any signs of a Yeti in their part of snowy area, Pidge feels rather than sees Keith fighting with wether or not to asks her a question before he sucks up his nerves to call out, “Hey, Pidge?”
“Yeah, Keith?” She responds, glancing at her boyfriend from the corner of her eye.
“Do you remember what I said about us?” He almost nervously looks away from her.
Pidge takes a second to remember that conversation. “About how long we will last?” She smiles sarcastically. “I do.”
Discomfort crosses his face before determination replaces it. “I didn’t mean to make it come out like that.”
She stops to fully turn to face him, wary of where he’s going with this. “Then what do you mean?”
Pink dust his cheeks as snowflakes begins falling around them. “I don’t...” Keith hesitates before he looks straight into her eyes, cheeks turning a darker shade. “I don’t want us to end at all.”
Pidge starts as her cheeks turn red from his words, turning darker as he comes and embraces her.
“Pidge...” Keith whispers as she listens, “Let’s upgrade from boyfriend and girlfriend...”
Pulling back, Pidge was stunned as Keith held out his hand to her, a shining ring in between his fingers.
Unflinching, Keith finishes. “To husband and wife.”
Looking for Yetis turns into a surprise proposal!
Bonus: In a future trip, Keith and Pidge look for a favorite.
Summary: After all was said and done, Katie Holt did her best to return to life before Voltron, to life before her brother and father were lost on the Kerberos mission, before everything got complicated.
But sometimes things don't want to go back into their boxes. And Katie Holt had never been much of one for being in boxes.
But what else was a girl to do when that was what life seened to throw her way?

Two figures sit on the porch of the Holt family’s house as snow continues to drift downward from the sky. They’re bundled up—winter jackets and pom-pom-topped hats to block out the occasional blustery wind. The steam from their hot cocoa gets wicked away by the frigid air as the smaller one leans against the other.
“You know what they’re doing, right?” Pidge asks, taking a sip of her cocoa. The fleeting warmth that floods her body is wonderful in the wintertime cold.
The taller one laughs, pulling her closer. “You mean the fact that Shiro and Matt have managed to somehow sneak mistletoe into almost every single doorway?”
Pidge hums in response. “I swear, Keith, if they’ve labeled this ‘Project Kidge’ or something…”
He snorts, pulling her close and resting his chin on her shoulder. “You’re still sure that they don’t actually know we’re a couple?”
“Positive. One hundred percent.”
“Your mom and dad?”
She shrugs. “Dad’s known we’re a couple since he glanced at my phone two years ago.” At Keith’s look of surprise, she adds, “I put a heart next to your name in my phone once we started dating. He noticed. No doubt he’s mentioned it to Mom.”
“So, it’s just Shiro and Matt still trying to get us together?”
“Yup.”
“How long are we going to torture them?”
She grins, and her smile’s somewhere between malicious and playful. “Until we get caught under the mistletoe?”
A gust of wind spirals around them, sending crystalline snowflakes spiraling around them. The colorful Christmas lights on the Holt household catch in the diamond dust, illuminating the sky with dots of green and red. They both shiver as they finish up their cocoa, now barely lukewarm from the winter chill.
“Come on,” Keith says, extending a hand. “Let’s go inside.”

The Holt household has been the center of the holidays for over two decades, and even the decorations bring an overwhelming sense of nostalgia. The tree still has ornaments that were made during their elementary years, and remnants of old gifts have transitioned their way into festive ornamentation.
Keith and Pidge spend the better part of the evening deftly dodging ever-moving mistletoe, courtesy of Matt and Shiro. It’s almost laughable, if it weren’t for the fact that it causes them to be ever so vigilant.
It isn’t that they don’t want to be caught underneath the mistletoe. No, far from that. Pidge would actually enjoy a traditional kiss underneath mistletoe for once in their three years of a relationship.
Pidge smiles as she watches him play catch with Baebae, using a squeaky snowball toy to send the now-aging dog running up and down the hall like a puppy. Matt and Shiro have joined in, kneeling on the floor so that they can pick up Baebae and ruffle the dog’s fur. The Christmastime cold has finally seeped from her bones, a result of the thick green blanket and fireplace. Her laughter at everyone’s endearing antics has he laughter echoing through the household, and the smiles she earns from her parents have her beaming back just as broadly.
Eventually, she and Keith find themselves sitting together on the couch, limbs intertwined beneath her blanket. The conversation has turned to updates on everyone’s lives: Matt has begun work on a top-secret project involving an advanced artificial intelligence, Shiro has become one of the most esteemed flight school teachers in the world, and her parents are finishing up their final years before reaching retirement.
“So, what about you and Katie?” her dad asks Keith.
“Katie’s doing a bunch of freelance stuff—coding webpages and working on projects,” he replies. “I’m working with an aeronautics program. I started about a month ago.”
“Advantage to working for the same company,” Pidge adds, smiling, “I finally have someone who can understand what I’m talking about and tolerate my work hours.”
“You mean working until who-knows-when in the morning because you don’t know the meaning of taking a break?” The exasperation in his voice is also affectionate and teasing; they’ve been attached at the hip for years, so this is just natural progression.
Matt just rolls his eyes. “You’re like a married couple. Minus the gross PDA.”
Pidge arches an eyebrow at her brother, who stubbornly refuses to make eye contact after his comment.
Noting the change in the room, Colleen Holt calls for dinner to be served, and beckons everyone in to the dining room.

It’s late at night by the time the day’s exhaustion begins to catch up to everyone. Pidge is half-asleep, curled up in a blanket and tucked warmly beneath Keith’s arm. Shiro and Matt have begun to pack away their respective presents, grabbing their blankets and shuffling away to the upstairs rooms. Just like when they were children, there’s extra space in their bedrooms so Shiro’s crashing on an air mattress in Matt’s room, and Keith has been given some space in Pidge’s room. Pidge’s parents have ventured to their bedroom after cleaning the last bits of shredded wrapping paper and ribbon from the room.
They’re the last two lingering in the room, as the once-blazing fire has fizzled to a combination of ash and crackling embers. The lights have since been shut off, and the only source of illumination comes from the half-dead fire and the lights from the tree. Keith shakes her shoulder, pulling her from a half-asleep daze.
“C’mon, Pidge, we’re going to bed.”
She wraps an arm around his waist, “I don’t want to go to sleep.”
“It’s not like we’re kids, waiting for Santa.” He presses a kiss to her forehead.
“Remember the year we stayed up all night? That was before you moved to your mom’s house. Didn’t we go through almost a hundred—”
“I still can’t look at candy canes,” Keith says with a scowl. “Even two decades later. The sheer amount of mint is evil.”
Pidge chuckles. “We crashed so hard after that sugar rush.”
“Despite the fact that it ruined candy canes for the rest of my life, it’s still one of my favorite holiday memories.”
Pidge laughs, finally standing up. She tugs on Keith’s hand, slowly leading them towards her bedroom. She pauses at the bottom of the stairs, grinning up at him.
“What, Pidge? Why are you smiling like that?”
She points up at the mistletoe above their heads.
“Oh.”
Pidge stands on her tiptoes, wrapping her arms around his neck, as Keith leans down to press a kiss to her lips.
“Merry Christmas, Keith.”
“Merry Christmas, Pidge.”
“You know what?” Pidge says, “I think this is my favorite memory.”
There’s a low whistle from the top of the stairs. “Sure took you two long enough!”
“Shut up, Matt, I’m allowed to kiss my boyfriend!”
The look on her brother’s face is priceless.
There’s the sound of something crashing to the ground as Shiro shouts, “Wait, your boyfriend?”
Pidge is sitting on the bench when Keith passes the line marking the end of his final lap and slows down to an easy jog. It's easily the weirdest thing about his whole sports as application padding thing - weirder than it turning out he kind of likes being on a team, like maybe his whole lone wolf thing might have a few drawbacks - Pidge turning into someone who waits for him, goes out of her way to stick around through practices. If she'd gotten so into band before Keith joined the football team he's not sure he would have decided to be someone who waits for her.
(That's a lie. But there's half a school year left and then he's doing a summer semester at the Garrison to get a head start. He has to keep some stuff at bay for a little while longer so he doesn't change things just in time for everything to change again.)
Keith jogs for two laps and walks one, runs himself through a handful of haphazard stretches even though he's plenty cooled down, and finally wanders over to Pidge. She's got three books laid out on the bench, and a notebook on her lap she's scribbling in so fast her hand's kind of blurry, and Keith knows better than to ask if it's homework because Pidge always rolls her eyes at him for thinking she might have to work this hard on her homework.
"Hey," he says.
"Two seconds," she says, scribbles a little faster and then abruptly closes all her books, one by one. "Hey."
"Something cool?"
"Maybe, but it's all theoretical right now," she says, shoving things haphazardly into her backpack. "Dad being in space is really cramping my style, I can't just go dig around all the Garrison labs for spare parts on my own."
It’s Christmas so that means it’s time to post Secret Santa stuff!
This one’s for @kidge-kat for @kidgesecretsanta. It’s inspired by her Something Wild fic series (and the color purple). I was going to do something more detailed and elegant but this kind of just happened and was too cute to resist.

She asked for “Maybe some sort of high school or college AU where Keith sees Pidge walking home alone in the snow? Where it goes from there is up to you.” And admittedly I modified it a bit. I hope you like it!

Katie Holt stared out the classroom window, having become bored with this professors lesson on astrophysics long ago. She already knew this information and didn’t need to hear it again in a bored monotone voice. Besides, the white fluffy clouds that seemed to promise snow were much more interesting to look at.
Katie’s attention was diverted to the campus pathways below as more students began walking along them, indicating the change in classes was soon. One particular red jacket caught her eye, the owner of said jacket looking up at the windows of the science building Katie was in.
When he located the window the girl sat at, his face split with a lopsided grin and he raised his hand in greeting. A light blush dusted Katie’s cheeks as she subtly checked where the professor's attention was at before sending a small wave back. She watched Keith duck into the building, though she knew he didn’t have any classes in this particular place that day.
After what still felt like an eternity and a half, the class was finally dismissed for the day. Katie shoved all of her pens and notebooks haphazardly into her green bag and bolted from the mundane torture chamber.
As she rounded the corner out of the doorway, she nearly ran straight into the same red jacket she had been looking at earlier. She peered up into the face of her best friend, both now grinning from ear to ear.
“Slow down there Pidge, I’m not looking to get run over just now.” Keith joked.
Katie rolled her eyes at the nickname her friends had grown fond of after hearing it from her older brother once. “We’re college kids Keith, we always want to get run over.”
Keith laughed at her joke and pulled her to the doors of the building by her arm. “Come on, we need to get back to the apartments and get ready for that snowstorm everyone is saying is gonna hit.”
Katie smiled as Keith’s grip shifted so their fingers were interlaced. Her heart stuttered at the feeling of their palms pressed together, even knowing that Keith saw nothing beyond friendship in the gesture.
She lightly squeezed his hand in hers, to which he looked back at her to shoot her a wink.
They burst through the double doors of the building, enveloped in the chilly show laden air. Katie almost immediately started shivering. She claimed she was made for warmer climates and making her endure cold like this was cruel and unusual. Then someone would point out that she had her pick of universities that would accept her, and she’d pout that this one had the best tech programs in the country. It didn’t help that she never seemed to remember a jacket while rushing out to classes in the morning. It was Keith’s turn to roll his eyes. Katie was a genius, but that didn’t mean she was smart.
He reluctantly disentangled his hand from hers and began to shrug his own jacket off. As soon as she saw what he intended, she began to protest and claim she was perfectly fine.
“Katie,” the dark haired man grumbled in exasperation, “your lips are turning blue and the apartment complex is all the way across campus. I retain heat better than you do just take it.”
Katie reached out hesitantly and took the proffered red jacket. She carefully slipped it over her arms, enveloping herself in the scent of his aftershave, deodorant, and his dog. It was so him she would never get enough of it.
He laughed under his breath at the sight in front of him. The adorable girl swimming in the coat that fit him perfectly, encapsulating the distinct size difference between the two of them. He’d never tell her that one of the reasons he decided to brave the chill and give her the jacket was that he loved seeing her in his clothing. Whenever she borrowed a shirt, sweatpants, or sweatshirts a thrill ran through him.
“Thanks.” She whispered just loud enough for him to hear. They both turned away from the other before seeing the blushes they both had.
Katie slipped her hand back into Keith’s as they continued walking through campus. They walked leisurely, neither wanting to go their separate ways at the apartment complex.
Halfway through the walk, Katie felt something cold brush her cheek. She stopped in the middle of the path to look to the sky and the snowflakes that were slowly starting to fall. At the end of her arm, Keith was pulled to a halt as well and turned back to the girl questioningly. At her upturned face, he too looked up at the clouds.
Katie and Keith both watched in wonder as the snowflakes increased until hundreds were falling around them.
Katie looked back at the boy next to her and began to giggle. He raised an eyebrow at her, watching as she reached the hand that wasn’t occupied holding his to his hair. “You’ve turned salt and pepper on me!” She laughed as she brushed the accumulated flakes off his head.
He laughed along with her. “Maybe it should be my permanent look, I’ve been told people find it very attractive.”
“Nah,” she smiled at him, the hand in his hair traveling to cup his cheek. “You look far more attractive with your normal hair.”
Shocked by her words, he stared down at the bronze haired girl. He too reached up to her face, brushing a lock of hair back from her face. He watched as her gaze travelled from his eyes to his lips and back again.
Before he really knew what he was doing, he leaned down and pressed his chilled lips against hers.
He could feel her lips smile against his as her fingers brushed through his hair. The hand that was still entwined with his squeezed as their lips moved softly against each other.
Keith pulled back from her after what felt like an eternity while also feeling like milliseconds. They just looked at each other, both of them smiling, happy that their moment had finally come.
“WELL IT’S ABOUT TIME!”
Katie and Keith both jumped three feet in the air at the sudden shout from down the path. The watched as their friends Lance and Hunk came up the path, the former practically skipping with joy.
Keith was ready to deck the happy man who interrupted the private moment. “What are you doing here” he basically growled.
“First of all, you’re in the middle of the campus path everyone is allowed to be here. Second, Hunk realized Pidge left her jacket at home this morning again so we were planning on rescuing her.” Lance then shot a grin between Keith and the girl wearing his jacket. “I guess we were a bit late for that though. Let’s get out of this snow though! It’s a hot chocolate and movie marathon day, plus we need to tell Allura and Shiro about this new development in the ‘Keith and Katie courtship ritual.’”
The two in question rolled their eyes as both their friends turned and merrily skipped back to their homes.
Katie turned to Keith, to find him looking back at her with gentle eyes. They smiled gently at the other. Katie reached out her hand and for the third time that day threaded their fingers together.
Kidge Secret Santa 2018 – for @all27g who asked for “Anything Kidge (But I have a special love towards any AUs where Pidge and Keith knew each other before the Kerberos Misson or fall heads over heels in love without realizing it.)”
I hope you enjoy it!
Summary: Pre-Kerberos AU. There were a few things Keith regretting doing in his life, and he was sure that joining Shiro for dinner with Commander Holt’s family would be one of them. That was, until he met the youngest member of the family.

Star Searching
The last time Keith felt that out of place was during his first day at the Galaxy Garrison. And just like then, he knew the only reason he was there was thanks to Shiro. He hanged back as Commander Holt's wife welcomed Shiro into their home, saying how good it was to finally meet the pilot who would be traveling with her husband and son to a moon of the furthest planet in their solar system.
Matt was at her elbow, teasing her for making such a big fuss about it. “Oh, come on, mom. He's only the best and brightest to have ever graduated the Garrison.”
Shiro turned pink at the attention.
“And you must be Keith,” Mrs. Holt said warmly, turning to him next. “Matt tells me you're in the piloting program as well. It must be wonderful to have a mentor with such experience around to guide you!”
“Um, well, yeah. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Shiro,” Keith answered honestly. He could feel his anxiety rise from her unexpected interest in him. His heartbeat quickened and he found himself having difficulty properly breathing. “Do you have a bathroom I could use?”
Mrs. Holt nodded and gestured to the nearby stairs. “It's just upstairs and across the hall. You can't miss it.”
Keith thanked her before fleeing upstairs, only able to relax once he shut the bathroom door behind him. He just needed a moment to compose himself. Then he would be able to go back and make it through dinner like a normal person.
“Why did I agree to this?” he asked his reflection.
He knew why.
All it had taken was one pleading look from Shiro and the sadness in his voice when he said that Adam had to oversee a detention and couldn't make it like they originally planned. After that, he'd hunted down the nicest clothing he owned (a red button down shirt and a pair of jeans) in order to join him for a celebratory dinner with the Holt family.
Keith took a few more minutes to get his breathing under control and prepare himself for how overwhelmingly nice Mrs. Holt was (just like Matt and Commander Holt, actually), then he left the bathroom. And while he had every intention of going straight downstairs, he found himself drawn to a wall of framed photographs instead.
It was the perfect display of a happy family. Or mostly happy, Keith corrected himself, noting one of the group photo's included a girl with long brown hair who was pouting. He assumed it was Matt's famed little sister, Katie.
Not for the first time, Keith wished he'd had a chance to save the photo albums his dad kept, before he was sent to the Home.
A faint sound drew his attention down the hall. It wasn't anything strange, except he was sure everyone else was downstairs. Weren't they? Keith furrowed his brow as he tried to recall. He was about to go down and find out, when he heard the sound of something falling and a pained groan.
Keith reacted before he could stop to think his actions through, barging through the half-open door to find the girl from the photographs sitting on the floor, rubbing her shin. She looked up at the sound of the door opening, her eyes wide.
At her side, an all-white dog stood up and fiercely wagged its tail before bounding towards him. Keith lifted his arms to protect his face from what he was sure was an attack, but all the dog did was stop in front of him and whine, pawing at his leg for attention.
“Bae Bae!” scolded the girl.
Keith slowly lowered his hands for the dog to sniff and was rewarded with a series of very wet licks from his fingertips to his wrist. He grinned at the overly affectionate dog, relieved that he wouldn't have to explain to Shiro how he got injured. He glanced up at the girl – Katie, he reminded himself – to find her staring at him, her expression unreadable.
He flushed with embarrassment. He could only imagine what it looked like to her. He was some stranger who came into her room without permission and then proceeded to ignore her in favor of her dog, who was only too happy to soak up all of the attention he was willing to give.
“Sorry,” Keith blurted out. “I, uh, thought I heard something fall, so I came to make sure everything's alright.”
She stared at him for a moment longer. “You're Shiro's friend? Kev- no, Keith?”
He relaxed a little. “Yeah. You're Matt's sister, Katie, right? Are you okay?”
Awkward.
It was all so awkward. The stilted conversation. Keith wished he could do something ridiculous like sink through the floor or transport back in time to stop himself from running into her room.
He barely heard her reply as he glanced around, almost immediately narrowing in on the telescope at her window. “Is that the Ouranos III? I didn't know you could get that outside of the Garrison.”
Katie stopped talking mid-sentence, following his gaze. There was a moment of hesitation before she answered. “Technically, I'm not supposed to have it. Dad brought it home as part of his personal research equipment a few years ago, but since he's helping test the new Ouranos IV, he let me use that one. You have a good eye.”
Keith shrugged. “I like looking at the stars. Knowing which telescopes give me the best view just felt like a natural part of that.” He paused, unsure of how much more to say, but with Katie looking up at him with a tiny smile, he pressed on. “Pops bought me an Orion growing up and we'd spend every night we could mapping out the stars. I'll never forget that.”
And that was it.
That was all it took for that awkward atmosphere to evaporate. Katie latched onto the topic and ran with it, happily bringing Keith along with her for the ride. At some point, he sat down on the floor with her and let Bae Bae sprawl across his lap, though he wasn't sure if that was before or after their discussion on whether or not the new line of SuperNova 9000's were really worth the hefty price tag.
Time slipped away from them. Keith only realized an hour had gone by when Shiro walked up behind him.
“So this is where you disappeared to,” he said fondly. “Dinner's ready, if you two are hungry.”
Keith reluctantly urged Bae Bae out of his lap before getting up. He sneaked a glance at Katie, and maybe it was just him imagining things, but he thought she looked disappointed by the interruption as well.
They all went down for dinner and Keith largely stayed quiet unless directly asked a question. Every now and then his eyes would meet Katie's and he couldn't help but wonder: had he made a new friend?
A warm feeling blossomed in his chest.
For so long it had only been Shiro, who was as much his mentor as he was a best friend, and quite a few years older as well. To have found someone near his own age who he got along with and actually enjoyed talking to...
He should say something. Add something to the conversation at the table. Ask her to pass the salt. Anything.
But Keith didn't and before he knew it, it was time to leave. He echoed Shiro's thanks for having them over for dinner and then they were out the door, heading to Shiro's car.
“Wait!”
Keith half-turned in time to catch Katie pushing past her parents to sprint over to him. There was a noticeable hue of pink across her cheeks as she thrust a piece of paper in Keith's direction. He took it, momentarily confused by the string of numbers written there, before his brain caught on. “Your phone number?”
Katie nodded, her eyes bright. “Just in case you want to talk some more. You still haven't convinced me that the Nova line peaked twenty years ago and has only gone down since then.”
“But I don't have a phone.”
Katie's face fell and Keith realized too late how that must have sounded to her. “I just mean, um, I can't text you, but the Garrison has land lines for us so use, so I could call using one of those. I'll...” He swallowed, well aware that Shiro was listening in. “I'll call tomorrow. At noon? And we'll figure out a good day for us to talk?”
She was smiling again, so he counted that as a good sign.
After a quick agreement to the plan, they went their separate ways. It wasn't until he and Shiro were well on their way back to the Garrison, that Keith had an idea.
