Duke Kryze: What do we actually know about him?
Not much, y'all. But here's what we do have:
Legends:
Darth Maul: Shadow Conspiracy
The Bounty Hunter Code: From the Files of Boba Fett - Ba'jurne Kyr'tsad Mando'ad
Disney:
Build the Millennium Falcon #32
BO-KATAN: Yes, when I was a child...I was part of the royal family. I took the Creed and was showered with gifts. But the rituals were all just theater for our subjects. They loved watching the princess recite the Mandalorian tenets as her father looked on proudly. Such a heart-warming spectacle.
THE MANDALORIAN: Maybe he was proud.
BO-KATAN: I know he was. I didn't embarrass him in front of everyone.
THE MANDALORIAN: Your father sounds like an interesting man. I would've liked to have known him.
BO-KATAN: He was a great man. He died defending Mandalore.
THE MANDALORIAN: This is the Way.
The Mandalorian "Episode 18: The Mines of Mandalore"
BO-KATAN: Are you sure this is a good idea?
THE MANDALORIAN: If he is ever to rise from foundling to apprentice, he must learn.
BO-KATAN (to Grogu): Don't worry. My dad was the same way. He's just proud of you.
The Mandalorian "Episode 20: The Foundling"
It's fascinating to me that Duke Kryze, much like Jaster Mereel, is a character we only know about through other people's words. Did he really reject war, or is Satine rewriting history? Was he a mighty warlord, as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Tor Viszla both described him? Was he proud of Bo-Katan for swearing the creed, or merely play-acting religious devotion for the people of Mandalore? We just don't know.
