Retirement in Nara

Sad news out of Nara, geiko Kikukame-san has officially retired suddenly. Even in her short time in the very small kagai, she was a trend setter, choosing to wear a white kimono for her erikae instead of the traditional black. With her retirement, there is only one active geiko in Nara, Kikuno-san. Kikukame-san will be dearly missed, but I wish her luck in all her future endeavors~

March 9th, 2019: Congratulations to Kikumame (菊まめ) in Nara on the occasion of her misedashi! She has been around as a shikomi for quite some time now, so her sudden misedashi seems well deserved! She is most likely the imōto of Kikukame (菊亀), which is a great fit as they’re as close as real sisters! おめでとうさんどす菊まめちゃん ^o^! Image courtesy of Megumu Tanigawa.

Today in Nara: Misedashi of Maiko Kikue from the Tsuruya Okiya!

As all Maiko and Geiko currently active in Nara, Kikue (菊愛) is affiliated with the Tsuruya Okiya, but as opposed to many of those before her, she is not the imouto of legendary Geiko Kikuno, but of fresh Geiko Kikukame!

Taking an imouto under her wings so soon after her Erikae is a testament to Kikukame’s desire to stay in the karyukai!

It seems as though Maiko Kikukano and Kikufuku have retired sometime earlier this year, which is very sad news for such a small kagai like Nara, so let’s all hope that Kikue stays for longer!

Congratulations Kikue, and all the best wishes for your career!
