Hi! I have a question for you. I am reading your fanfic called killer kings on ao3 and I was wondering how you are going about the character personalities? I love the way you've portrayed them so far so I was just wondering your thought process.

UM hi??? this is my favorite question i've ever gotten. thank you for asking ଘ(੭ˊᵕˋ)੭* ੈ✩

so, i'm a sap. following characters that are really angsty and shitty and mean and maybe abusive even... not really my thing. i love reading it, but im not awesome at sticking to that kind of characterization (yet) with my main cast of characters. so in this fic, being a modern au, i'm playing around with the characters personalities a little and reimagining their backstories to fit a non-jujutsu society. so, they're — in my opinon — themselves... but like... 20% ooc since im writing them in a curseless society.

i think i've made the biggest changes with sukuna, probably, since i could not keep up with having to write him the same way he's depicted in the canon. besides, if you take away the king of curses aspect, i dont think his character would actually be that dark tbh, at least in the type of au i'm making.

i think a non-curse version of him would be a laid-back, flirtatious, occasionally flamboyant (in the literal sense) kind of guy but he'd still be pretty serious and protective and domineering and irritable at times. he's the type of person i'd imagine rolls his eyes a lot. like, he'll do the thing you're asking him to do, but he'd make a stink about it because he's a little dramatic. he's portrayed as really self serving and sneaky in the manga so my take on that is that he is still self-serving, with alot of secrets, but his selfish nature extends to his friends and family and includes them in his motives for his behavior, he's not working against them but out of very thinly veiled love for them. also, i imagine him to visually normally have a kind of corpse husband aesthetic going on lmao.

he's a bouncer in my story, so he's protective but i imagine that he mainly enjoys his job because of the self-satisfaction that comes with knowing that he's strong enough to help. in relation to how i think his dynamic with megumi will be — i think it'll be similar to their relationship dynamic in the manga, except everyone's aged up so they're both adults and figuring things out in the adult human, abo, world. sukuna sees megumi's potential but internally understands that he hasn't realized it yet, so he's still there to help him and watch him progress and interject when he sees that a threat coming into megumi's life has the potential to derail his potential too much for him to come back from it.

speaking of megumi, i don't see him as a damsel in distress sort of character, i just think he has a lot of room to grow and progress to make and he, luckily, has people in his life that want to keep him locked onto that path. he just needs to dance long enough to graduate and start a life for himself that doesn't involve the club, tbh. that's his goal, but fast money and lots of drugs and the long nights and the club environment are all addictive, even if he doesn't really love it. it's still something he's become accustomed to and has a sort of love for, which is a little bit of a contrast to the yuuji that im building up.

yuuji knows that he wants to be the best at something, but he's just a little lost and misguided atm. no family really — besides sukuna (who i made his cousin instead of his brother cause... why not lol, less pressure for loyalty and for sukuna to have to take care of him i guess), and even then he's not the most involved in yuuji's life besides literally physically being there in the club to watch out for him, so he's still never really had anyone who's ever tried to get him to be more in life. they're a survivor kind of family unit, not go-getters. i imagine that gojo (whos also a swer in this au) did try to fill in the gaps left in yuuji's life role model wise by helping him acclimate to the club enviornment. so, he's still not in the best of life circumstances that he could be in but he's doing okay underneath gojo's wing.

im making yuuji be a swer full time and he'll be debating on if school is the move for him, or if he just needs to shoot for a career or whatever. the society i'm building is definitely more focused on family building and keeping the population steady, so unless your career in this universe is something STEM, just like irl, then it's kinda hard to find your place, cause it's expensive as hell to fund your own way through school or training programs or whatever when you don't come from money, and yuuji will have some extra burdens working against him in this that lead him into the sw life.

he's just a little lost boy who wants to find his purpose and live a life he can die proud of. which is where nanami will be coming into the fray soon. not to like... tell him what to do, but to show him that he has other potential routes of life within his ability to do & succeed in (like... *cough cough* sports). whereas characters like mei mei — who i've mentioned in yuuji's first chapter but haven't detailed her like... purpose in this story yet — will try to lure him deeper into the more unsavory parts of the underground s*x work life that gojo will have tried to keep him aware and away from. i mean, i'm loosely setting this in america so he'll have medical bills out the ass from his grandpa and not very much money left from his parents so my baby has to figure out something.

gojo will be in a similar mental space as yuuji, frankly. he's been a swer for the better part of a decade now, started at seventeen (cause his family had sorta groomed him into it, since they were a notorious drug and prostitution empire family) — i say, right after i just said i don't really do angst sjskjsks — so all he's ever really known is the sw life and he does it well. but, he wants to make his own path outside of his family, cause they're domineering as fuck and he's not with that shit.

he's a mentor of sorts for megumi, and yuuji, and other background characters i'll be adding to the fray soon. i imagine that he met megumi at a young age since the gojo in my au is about twenty-nine currently, and megumi's twenty-one, so they would've met at 21 and 13. i am modeling their relationship similarly to the source material so i think you might be able to guess how it is that gojo and megumi end up even meeting given gojo's family circumstances. but still, i think gojo would have been the one pushing him to keep up with his schooling and pursuing higher ed, even though gojo himself is committed to the sw life. he's still sweet and goofy and cocky and "the strongest" so it'll be fun playing with his canon personality dynamics in a non-jujutsu au, and seeing how his dynamic plays out with what he wants out of life and with (or without?? hehehe) suguru.

honorable mentions: maki and nobara will have personalities similar to their canon except now they're explicitly very gay. i played up nobara's "lowkey" caring side, since we see in the source material that she's a very caring, wide-eyed, excitable person even if she puts up a front and can be a hard ass sometimes. maki's characterization will be something i play with a little more. im excited to explore her dominatrix career stuff (either through dialogue she has w the main characters OR i might do a "every xyz chapters we get a maki or nobara pov" sort of deal, i think that'd be fun).

the chapter im posting later today intros some more fun side characters and plays w their characterization a bit too so i hope you enjoy that. sorry i made this so long snksjsks i just have so many ideas and passion and excitement towards this series. i wish my body would cooperate with me and not be so damn tired constantly lately. *sigh* lmao but thank you for the ask and thank you for reading!!
