Joy
So... what exactly is a killjoy?
Killjoys, in short, are the rebels of the city. They have no complete “end goal” (other than to show the citizens of Battery City the truth).
Still, according to Gerard Way, anyone can be a killjoy. They’re the band, the fans, and everything that lays between.
All you have to do is rebel, really. Killjoys live in a world of black and white so they wear colors. Do the opposite of what you’re supposed to. Live for the cause.
Then, of course, put yourself out there. Go wear those funky clothes and pick a wicked name. Be yourself with no apologies.
The Zones
The City is surrounded by a total of seven (7) zones, where Killjoys make home. Dangerous, unknown, and dirty, they are the opposite of Bat City.
Zone 1
This is where the City Life starts to leave you, but still has an influence. The slight hum of The City comforts residents of Zone 1, and light pollution is very there, but things quiet down a bit durning the day. Most people don't smell, either, as they shower regularly in their trips to The City.
Nobody lives along the border closest to The City, either. Most think it's too dangerous.
This Zone as a biggest Drac population than any other Zone. Not many Killjoys live here, but a few Neutrals do, just because it's easiest to get supplies this way. And they don't experience the craziness of the higher Zones, because they are still close to The City's protection.
Zone 2
This is pretty similar to the former Zone, except for the fact that the population here is bigger than Zone 1's (still not large). Houses and shacks become more common, and things tend to get busier here. You will see a little bit more Killjoys, and a lot more Neutrals. Dracs aren't as popular as they are in The City or Zone 1, but they still reach into this Zone.
Killjoy slang will slip out of someone's mouth occasionally, but for the most part people talk normal, because they're still close to The City.
Light pollution is also fading away, and on rare nights stars can be seen. The City's electric hum starts to become close to a faint whisper.
Acid rain is a very uncommon thing to happen here, but flash flooding is likely in the 'wet' season.
Zone 3
You'll start to hear slang be used regularly, but not overused. Killjoys start to form groups here, and the majority of the Neutral population splits between the third and the fourth Zones.
Acid rain happens rarely, maybe once every 1-3 years and sandstorms are almost unheard of. Floods seem to be the worst it gets.
There is a very minor population of Dracs in Zone 3, but the fear of them is still very there. Most of the people that live in Zone 3 have multiple escape plans, just incase Dracs barge into their house.
There is also a scattering of Killjoy Shacks, but only about two or three. Occasional abandoned buildings can be seen, but for the most part they are unheard of.
Zone 4
Here, the sihloette of Battery City will start to leave you. You can no longer hear the hum of electricity, and stars start to show depending on how comfortable they are with you.
You'll discover that acid rain becomes more common, but dust storms start to almost never happen.
You'll notice the way rules seem to suddenly slack off once entering these Zones, and chaotic Killjoys start to take a likening in giving newbies scares.
Dracs are only seen when they're passing through, and Neutrals start to fade away little by little.
Abandoned buildings pop up more the deeper you get into this Zone, and you'll see your first mailbox just before Zone 5 starts.
Zone 5
For reasons unknown, a line of pebbles surrounds the beginning of this Zone and Zone 6.
Zone 5 is where the parties start, where the chaotic Killjoys go nuts. The majority of the concerts that occur happen in Zone 5, and it isn't uncommon to find random Killjoys wandering around in a daze; drenched in glitter and blood. Because of this, the Drac population thickens in this Zone, but for some reason they leave the others (for the most part).
Flash floods are rare and (almost) unheard of, but acid rain and dust storms are pretty common.
You'll find a lot of mailboxes here, but some empty.
Zone 6
In this Zone, your risk of heat stroke increases by 1000%. Other than having a small population of neutrals and Dracs, Zone 6 is mostly filled with Killjoys, mailboxes, and abandoned buildings.
This is the farthest from Battery City a person can live while still having hope that there is something outside of the Zones.
Zone 7
Zone 7 is the farthest Zone from the City. If you go past this Zone, you're practically toast--or that's what the belief is.
Acid rain falls more often than not, and the risk of heat stroke is less common than the former Zone, but your odds are still likely.
There are hardly any Killjoys in this Zone, and even less Dracs and/or neutrals. Mailboxes are common, and most of the buildings (if any) are abandoned.
If you meet a Killjoy here, they'll probably be the weirdest thing you've ever met. Accents are thick here, and slang is used heavily.
While there is a decent amount of communities in this Zone, you won't join unless you have a tight connection with someone inside of it. Communities are close-knit; people do their work while protecting it with their lives. Everyone's got each other's backs here.
Outside of The Zones
Nobody really knows what lays outside the Zones. Perhaps it is a new monster to overcome, or perhaps it is just desert. So far, anyone who has left the Zones has yet to return.
Most believe that the radiation becomes too much for the human body to handle, but this is not scientifically proven.
Occasionally, a unique animal will pop out from whatever is outside of the Zones, but they keep their visits short.
—
NOTE: The farther go move from The City, the harder it is to understand what someone is saying. Slang is used heavier, grammar gets ignored severely, etc.
Life in The Zones vs Life in The City
The lives of citizens and the lives of Killjoys are uniquely different. Some touch mad deeper than the obvious.
Still, they may have more in common than you think.

In The City
Droids and humans live together
Children under the age of 18 years old must be in bed by 9:00pm--"so they may earn their necessary nine (9) hours of sleep"
There is little to no color--almost everything is white
Citizens must take their medication 3x a day
Promises pleasant weather
Controlled by BL/Ind
The Zones
Kids don't have bedtimes--if there are any around
Killjoys surround the Zones, so there is naturally lots of color
People in the Zones notice what BL/ind is doing, and refuse to do anything they say (including taking meds)
Weather sucks (acid rain, sandstorms, hotter than hell in the day, cold as a freezer in the night)
Both
Located somewhere around Southern California
Dracs are a big problem (in The City, they will randomly check peoples' houses and in the Zones, they hunt Killjoys and rebels)
Life is not good
There is still electricity
Killjoys are a problem (to those who don't understand)
The Fab Four
To some, the Fab Four were legends. To others, they were an embarrassment to Killjoy kind. Whatever they truly were, everyone has heard their legends--whether you live in The City, the Zones, or slums. They were some of the inspiration to the way Killjoys are today, and continue to be.
Who Were The Fabulous Killjoys?
The Fabulous Killjoys (or the Fab Four) were a group of four (4) Killjoys. They went by the titles of Party Poison, Jet Star, Fun Ghoul, and Kobra Kid, and they supposedly lived in a diner somewhere around Zone 6.
Before they were killed in BL/ind's hands, they were the original caretakers of The Girl, who they sacrificed themselves for.
Party Poison
Poison was the leader of the Fab Four. With their short temper and bright hair, they stood out from most Joys.
Originally working in The City for BL/ind, Poison was the artist behind the Mousekat cartoon, which is probably the reason behind their Mousekat helmet. Their life before becoming a Killjoy is unknown to most, but what is known for sure is that they were the older sibling of Kobra Kid, and lover of Fun Ghoul.

Dead Pegasus pin
yellow mask
blue Mousekat helemt
yellow ray gun.
Kobra Kid
Being the only one out of the Fab Four that didn't use a ray gun, Kid was trained in hand-to-hand combat, which was most likely used from his days as a BLI soldier. Most of the Joys just believed it was because Kid was an awful shot.
Due to multiple serums being injected into him during his BL/ind days, Kid was aggressive, and was believed to have had 'medusa eyes', which helped him earn his nickname (even if he was afraid of snakes). For the later reason, Kid wore sunglasses at all times. When he wasn't wearing them, he wore a biker helmet with tinted lenses.
Distinguished by
blond hair
red jacket

yellow shirt
'GOOD LUCK' helmet
black aviator sunglasses
red ray gun
Fun Ghoul
Other than Poison, Ghoul is the only part of the Fab Four that is a fairly good shot. The only problem being that he doesn't like killing anyone--including Dracs.
When he previously worked for BL/ind, he was a medic. So naturally, he was the medic for the Fab Four. And anyone who needed it.
He's also the only known part of the Fab Four that have tattoos.
Distinguished by
many tattoos
long black hair
green ray gun
T&T vest
black/yellow striped shirt
Frankenstein mask
wristband

Jet Star
It's mostly unknown whether or not Star was a good shot, but most Joys that have previously known him say he sucked. And it probably wasn't just because of his missing eye.
Star was the mechanic for the Fab Four, and before that he worked as a mechanic in the slums of The City. Most Killjoys say he was the most experienced because of his previous years fighting in both the Analog and Helium wars.
Distinguished by
curly afro-like hair
black jacket that contained an American Flag on the back
lightning bolt helmet
sunglasses
eyepatch

blue ray gun
Humans and Droids
One of the many reasons that Bat City seems so advanced is their use of androids. They’ve rooted the idea that droids can be a part of a human's every day life, which has been good so far, one could say.
—
So, there are different kinds of droids, right? Mainly two, being;
Pornodroids - Besides BL/ind's past claims to eliminate the need for Battery City's citizens to have sex for joy, pornodroids seem to be a major hit.
Parenting Droids - Citizens who do not prove themselves to be good parents (by not enforcing BL/ind's rules) are often replaced by androids that are "copies" of the once human parents and killed. Then, their children are raised by their robot versions instead, with strict rules about bedtime, mealtime, and freetime.
—
NOTE: BL/ind also offers social services for droids (and humans). However, such services are highly unpopular because of the fact that they are normally operated by the old/outdated droids, which take ‘forever’ to read aloud their specified script.

Battery City and BLI
Life in the city is anything but how it seems. As long as BL/ind refuses to give up their control, citizens can't tell the difference between fear and joy. The only ones that can being the killjoys, who citizens are taught are the definition of evil.
The City
Battery City, (informally Bat City) is a hellhole dressed like a daydream.
Located in the center of the Zones, the city is lead by The Director and controlled by BLI, who's aim is to eliminate all "all uncleanliness from the world". Including color and bad weather.
The City is fairly high-tech. Androids are a regular part of any citizens' life, especially pornodroids.
Life in the City
Life in the City may seem like a harmless dream, but the reality is quite the opposite.
Citizens are promised a life free of stress, harm, and worries. They are promised the Good Life, with only happiness. No hunger, no poverty, and no war. However, citizens of the City suffer through rounds of abuse and brainwashing (and the punishment for violating and/every law being death) without their knowledge.
Many citizens are advised to wear headphones at specific times using specific volumes which are said to be "in order to repel the negativity in [their] minds". Others will take "happy pills" that are supplied by BLI. Or another pill called Plus.
BLI or BL/ind
Better Living Industries, (AKA BLI and/or BL/ind,) is the one and only monopoly located in the Zones. They control everything in the, and deeply enjoy the tight grip they have on their citizens' lives.
One of the main things BLI really likes to have a stranglehold on is profit--which is also their key to business. They make and sell pornodroids in order for citizens to feel something, and create drugs to increase demand for other androids. Along with the random Draculoid check-ups.
BL/ind also enjoys to control the lives of the citizens of Battery City (see above).
